Interesting interpretation of the game from the opponents point of view. This from a Bay Area news source:

The teams combined for 33 turnovers and just 26 assists.

Utah (4-12, 1-3), one of the worst offensive teams in the conference, shot 60.7 percent from the field in the second half. The Cardinal was 5 of 17 from the foul line. Utah was 1 of 9.

In Stanford's case, blame the hangover.

The Cardinal was just five days removed from the longest game in school history -- the four-overtime escape at Oregon State -- and it showed.

I am not the world's biggest Utah fan, but I am a fan who follows them consistently.

Congrats to the Coaching staff and players for a great game. I am impressed! Keep up the improvement!

Hearbreaking loss? Yes.

Unexpected? No.

Sad state of affairs. Do you know how depressing it is to walk around campus the day after a loss? I'm a much bigger basketball fan than football and I've had great hopes for the glory days to return. But alas, probably not while I'm here for the next three years. I see nothing to cheer for with this team.

I can't believe a coach would tell his players it's okay to lose as long as you try hard. What's up with that garbage. A good coach would teach a team how to win and expect nothing less.

Wow, Stanford must be pretty bad to only win by 3.

Very impressive effort Utes. You have to think the coaching is above average and the players are really putting forth the effort to do this well against two of the top PAC teams in the last week. I would not be surprised to see them win a few more PAC games this year.

"The Cardinal was just five days removed from the longest game in school history -- the four-overtime escape at Oregon State -- and it showed."

If that's not some NorCal rationalizing logic then I don't know what is! There's no hangover from a long game 5 DAYS AGO. I could see if this was a Saturday morning game and the overtime game was on the Thursday prior, but come on. Utah is putting good game plans together that are putting them in position to win games or make the other team beat them in uncomfortable ways.

Stanford's Aaron Bright had been averaging 13 ppg and 3 made 3-pointers per game on nearly 50% shooting. Last night: 7 points, 0-5 from 3 and 30% FG. Last week UW's Tony Wroten, one of the nation's top-rated PGs, had his drives to the rim taken away, which is his most efficient game, and was forced to pull up more often. The result: UW's lowest point total of the season. If you can sit with a straight face and tell me this coaching staff isn't doing a good job with what they have, you really are delusional.

Bottom Line

Gotta had it to the Utes. I was really negative, but this team is competing. I also think this is a very negative reflection on how soft the Pac12 is in basketball.

I can live with this. The Utes are definitely competing hard right now, and for the entire game. They wanted to win this game badly.

I can handle losing when the effort and the passion are there on my team. I'm proud of this Ute team--keep it up, and you will continue to surprise some great teams!

Nice to see them compete. Coach K is getting everything he can out of this group. Next year the talent level will be higher as well as the expectations.

Keep your heads up Utes!

You're my new paradigm of hope. Comments like that help me understand how the Ute football team survived during the 70's and 80's.

Thanks for the quick jolt of enthusiasm. The Ute Glee Club could use a few more folks like yourself.

Re: Pete in TX

Two negative, smarmy comments regarding a team you obviously do not like. Ute fans came into this season with zero expectations due to the obvious set of circumstances Coach K was presented with. No one expected the quality play and competetiveness we witnessed last night from what he has to work with. The one good player we had is out for the entire year.

Have fun in the Slim Gyms of the WCC. Doesn't matter what the quality of teams in the WCC vs. the Pac-12 is; nationally nobody cares. It's still small time vs. the Big Time.

wow, Stanford tried everything in it's power to give this game away and STILL the utes couldn't snatch a victory? What's it going to take?!

This was an outstanding effort by the team. I am really liking what Krystko has done with this group of guys.

Not a lot of talent on the team currently but what's happening this year is pouring the foundation of a strong program to come. Many of the players contributing this year will play a major role in the next year or two in Utah breaking out of the hole that Boylen put them in. Nice to see Hines have a break out game.

These guys playing major roles this year will be major role players next season when Loveridge, Seymore, Hearlihy, and the two RM's come to town. Utah will see much more success next season even with their most talented guys being so young.

Larry has these guys playing hard, and controling the tempo of the game. Something that Boylen never learned.

Go Ute's! I doubted, but am certain Utah will surprise a few more teams this year.

Go Ute's

Fascinating that ImaCaMan's first sentence is to berate a poster by saying:

"Two negative, smarmy comments regarding a team you obviously do not like."

Yet...there are three "negative, smarmy comments" in his own last paragraph:
"Have fun in the Slim Gyms of the WCC. Doesn't matter what the quality of teams in the WCC vs. the Pac-12 is; nationally nobody cares. It's still small time vs. the Big Time."

Do as I say, not as I do?

Best wishes against Cal!
