It's embarrassing for the local sportswriters to continue beating the drum of Utah's great basketball tradition - it just makes this year's team look even more pathetic.
The Utes will be lucky to stay withing 20 points of either of this week's road opponents.
Years like this are usually followed by the firing of a coach. New coaches don't typically perform this poorly in year 1.
I know U fans are not holding Coach Kry accountable for this years results, but I think the results say something about his ability. I recognize with this talent level, no coach could turn the Runnin Utes into a Top 25 team. But a coach worth his salt, should have had the team more ready for games like Montana St, UNC Asheville, Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton.
I wonder how many wins the Utes will need to have in 2012/13 to keep Coach Kry off the hot seat? Is another 5 or less win season acceptable? What about a 10 win season?
For the teams sake, I hope U don't have another exodus after this season or lose any of the key recruits.
Good luck!
CougFaninTX said "I am envious that the Utes are in the Pac 12" and then a string of other stuff.
Coach K isn't on the hot seat. In fact, he's doing pretty well with what he has. The Utes were picked to finish last in the Pac 12 and are currently in 9th place. Things will improve with recruiting, a chance to bring in his guys, and put his system in place. If you watched Ute basketball (pretty safe bet you don't), you'd saw early play dominated by the remaining Boylen boys who were playing Boylen ball. That's changing.
On top of all that, fans are excited to see new teams. This time last year, we were looking at a stretch against New Mexico and Colorado State. Now it's Stanford and Cal. Life is good for the Utes.
I went to Utah's first two conference home games last week. Surprise Utah win and a nail biter second game.
I got my money's worth.
I look forward to next week's home games.
Back to the 60's for Utah basketball -- no local television broadcast. The Utes can't even pursuade KJZZ to carry the game?
Against all odds, and most prognosticators predictions, the Utes have actually shown a few exhibitions of something that occasionally resembles basketball. I hope they keep it up. They were dealt a very bad hand and seemed to pout about it for quite awhile. But I think they are beginning to figure out that if they play hard and listen to their coach, they have a chance to actually win a game here and there. Keep working and giving maximum effort guys. You may not win, but at least you are beyond the 1-25 stage.

Uh, no one watches the utes play basketball, no one can, they aren't ever on tv.
Also New Mexico and Colorado state is arguably a superior two teams to stanford and cal, New Mexico is borderline top 25 while neither cal or stanford is anywhere close.
"New Mexico is borderline top 25 while neither cal or stanford is anywhere close"
AP poll - New Mexico is 30; Stanford is 35.
If 30 is "borderline 25" than Stanford is "borderline good as New Mexico".
Dig as you might, Ute fans are still excited to see PAC 12 teams come to the house instead of MWC teams.
Utes lead Stanford by 1 at the 8:57 mark. Go Utes!

I guess the Utes were lucky tonight.
68-65 loss for the Utes. Never great to lose, but a 3 point loss on the road to the team with the best record in the Pac 12 is not too bad for this improving Utah team.
If they keep this effort up they'll win at least few home games before all is said and done this year.
Keep up the hard work Utes!

Actually, this just proves that even the best team in the PAC 12 isn't very good.
