Coach is looking for players to PRACTICE against, not to join the team.
But... snarky jokes don't work out as well when you stick to the facts.
I guarantee I could hit a couple 3s per game for the Utes. I've been averaging 6 Pts per game in my city league. I just cannot see myself wearing Ute red. I just marfed a little bit thinking about wearing red.
Sooner Ute, lighten' up, it'll it will be an even longer season.
If you're going to call timeouts to milk a game that was over in the first half, don't be mad if the other team decides to work for free yogurts.
As bad as that game was for USF, they should be glad BYU didn't pour it on trying for 100. Rose had his 2nd and third stringers in "pressing".
BYU could have started the 2nd teamers and beat this team. Its Walters' problem if his players roll over and quit because they couldn't put the ball in the basket, one of the worst shooting displays I have ever seen. He is also the one that midway through the 2nd half he subbed out all 5 starters for scrubs, because they quit. Most importantly, he didn't tick off the people from the state of Utah, he ticked off Coach Rose and you could see it. Walters wants to keep calling timeouts to "coach" his team. Coach Roses' body language was like is this guy for real?
To be fair, Walters said he was joking (and his tone made it obvious). Your joke works, but BYU fans should remember the context. Rose said he had no problem with it.
BYU was "pressing the attack"? They got to 69 with about 5 minutes left. It took 5 more minutes to get the last 11, with the starters out. The bench players are still going to play.
I believe there were very few points scored by BYU in the last 8 minutes. The back-ups were in for nearly half of the 2nd half. All the starters were out very early. A team cannot run up the score if all of the back-ups are in.
Brad, keep your day job -- you are not a humorist!
Wicked stuff that you wrote!
(You must have thought Utah residents weren't much interested in the LSU - Alabama football game results. . . . Or thought it wasn't much of a game. You were right with the latter opinion.)
Generally, I love your stuff!
maybe the USF coach didn't know about the frozen yogurt goal?
Yo, Rock! Lighten up on the Aggies. Not that I like them much, because I don't, but their teams have made great strides. Winning close ones is good for character and morale. Some sort of raging rodeo silhouette is probably a good idea, harkening back to the days of Eric Whipple.
Speaking of rodeo, Walters coaching his USF second string players down to the last minute looked like something we are used to seeing from Bronco Mendenhall. Maybe Bronco and Walters have attended some of the same coaching clinics. (Football and basketball? Probably not...) I was fine with what Walters did even if Dave Rose was a bit anxious to get out of the arena and line up to claim his free yogurt.
As for the Utes, I like them (NOT) about as much as Max Hall ever did. But we ought to remember Roger Reid's last year. Things can turn around fast. Look at the SF 49ers one year into Jim Harbaugh's tenure.
Funny you should be discussing changing Utah States logo and then mention the BYU yogurt story. Perhaps it's BYU who should change its logo. I think they should go with the BYU Tropics and instead of yogurt they should offer corny dogs. If they get close to their point goal Dave Rose could put himself in the game and try to block his own teams shots so the cost of the corny dogs would not come out of his budget.
This BYU Tropics marketing ploy could hurt RC Willeys sales numbers though. There would be allot fewer families there on Saturday for the free Hot Dogs and Diet Coke. I'm just sayin..
Could you imagine the BYU faithful with corny dogs on the line?
Free Corny Dog's for all!! Yeewhoooo...
Epic...
RockMonster, going after fans - yogurt, Mormon alchohol??? I mean, really? Slow news day. Fans are fans. I had season tickets my senior year at the Y. That team was ranked as high as #2 in the polls and we had tons of fun. I stayed to the closing tick mark of EVERY GAME and nobody offered me any froyo. But, I wouldn't have turned it down for being the Sixth Man. Consider it payment for a job well done.
Walters said he also called two late timeouts to coach his team to the end, so Rose responded by having his team play to the end.
Understandable, Walters was reaching in desperation. He'll get over it with a better team.
