FOR ALL TROLLS AND BYU HATERS:
"WHAT BYU WON: Their first bowl game as an independent, a final 10-3 record that cements the program's continued relevance without a conference affiliation, and a bundle of optimism entering Nelson's senior year." CBS Sports, 12/30/2011
"The Cougars won 10 games -- their fifth 10-win season in the past six years. That has to be considered a major success in Year 1 as an independent." ESPN, 12/30/11
If you wish to be more foolish than you already are, go ahead and post your pathetic, inane, and ridiculous diatribes about how BYU and/or its 10 win season are irrelevant.
The professional sports writers know that BYU is relevant and will be for years to come.
Sorry trolls and haters, the BYU football team will be ranked higher in the final polls than any other Utah based team.
Happy New Years, Cougars! There is indeed a lot to look forward to, and a lot to accomplish. Let the ride continue~!
6 WAC games sure helps with that 10 win season.
Great win and an unbelievable display of gut, grit and determination on both ends of the ball. How I wished they were able to do that against Texas, Utah, and TCU. It would've silenced the haters and spared us diehard fans a lot of angst and pain from all the ridicule and hateful venom.
Go Cougs!
I believe the term underclassman means a freshman or sophmore. That would make Nelson an upperclassman. It is a little thing, but I like reporters to know what they are talking about.
bigsamoan: let 'em spew the hate and venom. Just means they are keeping us in mind. This was a fun team to watch and looking forward to next year for even more! Go Cougs!
Here is what the professional sports news services are saying about BYU's 10 win season:
"WHAT BYU WON: Their first bowl game as an independent, a final 10-3 record that cements the program's continued relevance without a conference affiliation, and a bundle of optimism entering Nelson's senior year." CBS Sports, 12/30/2011
"The Cougars won 10 games -- their fifth 10-win season in the past six years. That has to be considered a major success in Year 1 as an independent." ESPN, 12/30/2011
Professional sports writers recognize BYU's 10 win season as significant and also BYU's "continued relevance" as a nationally recognized football program.
Those are the facts. No amount of spinning by the trolls and haters will change them.
Happy New Year!
Such an interesting contrast. In Oklahoma, a BCS program finishes with a 10-3 record and fans are calling for coaching and quarterback changes. Here, a 10-3 record against weaksauce is called "continued relevance".
Strength of schedule for 2012 looks like this year's schedule, so the relevance should continue even further. Woo-hoo!
And 10-3 is much, much, much better than 8-5. Cougs rule!
Re: SoonerUte
Not sure where your getting your info on OU, no coaching change being called for, school wants QB back for senior season. OU is calling the season a success...the contrast is your creation as both universities are calling their football season a success. Join in the love, and remember 10-3 is alway better than 8-5.
I don't understand all the excitement. With that schedule they should win 10 games!!!
@fan29
" with that schedule they should win 10 games"
and they did win 10 games, anytime you reach 1 of your goals its something to get excited about. most detractors said byu would be lucky to win 8 games.
in contrast, utah fans were talking before the season about winning the south division title, challenging for the P12 title, winning 10+ games and dominating the P12 in their first season. instead they had a losing record in the conference in spite of being gifted with the easiest schedule.
meanwhile, byu lost by 1 on the road to a ranked team, lost on the road to another ranked team mainly because of 2 mishandled punts, and lost a head scratcher/ brain fart-type game
to utah. there's a lot of positives to build on for next year.
Yeah Howard, good thing the Cougars didn't have to play Colorado.
Entertaining season, thanks for the effort.
@calicoug if you actually watched tv then you would know soonerute is right they are calling for the head coaches job watch espn first take skip bayless die hard ou fan even said it.
"Not sure where your getting your info on OU" not sure where your getting yours, and they definitely didnt call that season a succes seeing as how they thiught by years end they would be in nat. championship but unlike byu that goal for them is realistic
@byu fans "in contrast, utah fans were talking before the season about winning the south division title, challenging for the P12 title, winning 10+ games and dominating the P12 in their first season. instead they had a losing record in the conference in spite of being gifted with the easiest schedule."
hahahaha yall are so annoying its crazy, you say all that about utah when before the season even started yall were claiming to have the best team ever and going to the nat championship HOW DELUSIONAL are you?
Will you children just grow up? Congrats BYU!
Sportsfanforlife
It will always be BYU's goal to attain the highest achievement in any sport. So what, the Cougars didn't make it this year but they have in the past and that is what your team doesn't have.
No more DELUSIONAL than thinking an average team that went second fiddle to BYU in most years in both the WAC and MWC conferences would ever go anywhere in a 'big boy' conference.
Like U guys ever had a chance?
AP will be out soon enough. Here's the headline for you...
BYU AP Top 25, Utes... not so much
BYU should go for an undefeated season next year...
Idaho, Idaho State, SVU, Dixie State, UVU, Weber State, UNLV, New Mexico, Prarie View and Colorado School of Mines, U of Denver, U of Phoenix and LDS Business College should get you 13-0...
That would be awesome! Then you could vote Riley Nelson into the BYU Hall of Fame and maybe give him the Byiesman Trophy? It could be a Utah county mardigra of sorts...
@ImNasty
"The professional sports writers know that BYU is relevant and will be for years to come."
That's an ironic statement considering BYU just played a bowl game against a WAC and/or CUSA team (sorry, can't remember which conference Tulsa is in) at 9 a.m. on a work day that roughly a dozen people watched.
If that's your idea of relevance, I'd hate to know what you think irrelevance is.
