SM has to have a slight edge in the conference race right now based on how they are playing. A BYU loss wouldn't hurt the Cougs as much as it would hurt the Gaels. A BYU win on the road against SM would give the Cougs a slight advantage of SM, Zags and SF in the conference race.

Right about now, I'm wishing Rogers and Collinsworth were healthy. I'm hoping Davies can stay out of foul trouble and have a game like he did against Baylor. I'm hoping Zylstra and Winder get their shooting touch back. Austin had a couple of great games, but has been quiet the last few games. Time for him to really make an impact when he's on the floor. I'm feeling the most confidence in Hartsock and Carlino, knowing both will get 15-20 points and 5-10 rebounds / assists.

This should be a great game. A win on ESPN2 would also get the attention of some media and coaches and would move the Cougs closer to breaking into the Top 25.

Sagarin has Saint Mary's ranked ahead of California, the only PAC 12 team ranked in the Top 40.

This will be a tough challenge for the Cougars, but at least they have a pretty good idea of the type of team they'll be facing, having beaten the Gaels in the South Padre Island Invitational championship game last season.

If the Cougars limit their turnovers to under 15, they'll have a decent chance of winning their first WCC game.

Without Rogers, BYU may not pull this one off. However, they should get them back in Provo.

"It was a great atmosphere it was packed with people hanging over the rails underneath the one end of the basket," said Rose. "In that setting I remember how difficult it was for us to score during different points in the game."

Were the people hanging over the rails deflecting shots?

Sagarain has St. Mary's by 3.23 points. That's a toss-up. Good luck, Cougars!

Comparing BYU's 2005 team (and coach) to BYU's 2011 team and coach is a real stretch. We are much better now and while we may lose, frankly, I'm expecting a win. And I believe the team is expecting to win. Given our injuries, this team is performing pretty well.

Playing in bandboxes is the one big negative I've always had with being in the WCC. It's crazy. Coupled with the fact that the Cougars have padded their win loss record with a bunch of Mercy State's. What was San Marcos all about? Did we have a donor at their school? Geez; that game was ugly. Abuou's play was fright night revisited. What's wrong with Carlino's face? The Cougars need to start decently and eliminate their tendency to force passes that aren't there. The outside shooting needs to be on target. The 6'4" starting Gael guards will pose a problem. My hope is they will jam the ball into the post and get the Gael bigs in foul trouble early, and not be tempted to bomb away from the outside. Go Cougars.
