"(Derrick) Shelby, (Dave) Kruger up front, they are all good players."
How do they know he was talking about Dave? From what I've seen, Joe has played a better season this year than Dave. Regardless, that D-Line is what keeps the defense and essentially the team in every game. Gonna be missing Shelby and Finau next year, for sure!
Two things about this.
One, utah has never been good at defending option attacks. For whatever reason whittingham has never figured out how to defend one.
Two, utah's dline is excellent so if they were ever able to stop an option attack then this should be the time.
Something is definately going to have to give in this one.
This figures to be one of the better bowl game in a year of real stinkers. If Utah can contain the option and can score a touchdown or two, they'll win. This could be a close, low-scoring game. Utah 14, G. Tech 13

2005 Win 38-35
2006 Win 17-14
2007 loss 12-20
2008 Win 30-23
2009 Win 23-16
2010 Win 28-23
5 Wins___1 Loss
@TheHailstorm
Duckhunter's just saying that because he can't think of any other reason to predict a Utah loss.
BTW --- Against Air Force

He is ?
That's what you said, not him.
These were games against Air Force who often was among the nations leaders year in and year out.

"...UTAH has never been good at defending option attacks. For whatever reason WHITTINGHAM has never figured out how to defend one...".
UTAH is 7-1 against AF since 2003.
No style points, just W's.
"...UTAH"S D-LINE is excellent...".
Not too bad on 9/17 (sorry, couldn't resist).
9/10 was an opportunity lost.
10/1, 10/8, 10/22 worn down; looked inept, especially 10/22. However, those losses were against spread heavy O's.
11/25 inexplicable (the DN won't accept the R-rated explanation).
The two-hands-around-the-throat "embarrassment" 11/25, should be the motivation UTAH needs for a chance at redemption on 12/31.
We will see...
@ WHAT NOW?
My many thanks for the Duhhhck shot !
I picked GT to win by 3...kind of wishing I had selected the u by 5. Oh well, need to live with your choices!
The Utes are 6-1 against option teams since Coach Whit became the head coach - 5-1 against Air Force, and they beat Navy in a bowl game.
While those numbers are encouraging, the service academies don't have the same caliber of athlete that Georgia Tech does.
It should be a very competitive game.
Go Utes!
Duckhunter, Kyle has always been good against Air Force and the option -- bend don't break works very well -- may give up some yards, but it produces W's.
