I would not have gone to this movie had I realized that Woody Allen had anything to do with it. Fortunately, I stayed to watch it all. I thought it was a super film that had a special magic about it. I have recommended it to many. I was especially pleased at the minamal amount of objectionable language or visuals. If you have not seen it...give it a try.

I agree with Hicks choices. For us, 2011 was a better movie year than 2010. The reason? Far more movies made for the "rest of us". Usually Hollywood focuses on the "Hangover 2" crowd and fails to create stories most (thinking) people can relate to. Great, well-written stories with no real need for sexual situations, over-the-top-stupid humor or profanity, just focus on telling a story. Dolphin Tale was the year's surprise - not my favorite, but almost a 70's type Walton's script. I saw tons of kids, including many in wheelchairs attending our theatre in CT. The dolphin was their hero. Now, why can't we make more movies like that??

Thanks for a great article, Chris.

How I truly miss the days when the DesNews had movie critics to give local perspective and ratings.

"Midnight in Paris" had to be one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen!!! Of course they don't make movies like they use to either.

When the John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Marlow Brandon etc show back up......maybe I'll invest in the movie business, as for now they make no movies with morals or values and a good plot!

I loved Midnight in Paris. It's so good to have an intelligent movie that makes a few good points about life and human nature. I'm so sick of movies that are nothing but $100 million in special effects with no script.

I also loved The Help--another great, touching story.
