"Think before typing."You forget to add both Edwards and
Chow earned their doctorate degree's from BYU.
That's A Good One | 8:06 a.m. Dec. 22, 2011 Meridian, ID "There are plenty of other former BYU players and coaches available to
help Kyle Whittingham continue to build the Utah program"FYI,
Norm Chow played for the University of Utah. Lavell Edwards played for Utah
State University and got his masters degree at the University of Utah. The U of U and USU contributed the two most influential coaches in byu
football history. Think before typing.
Wouldn't it be fun to see Coach Chow get Jake Heaps and turn him into the player
the BYU coaches and fans thought he would be? Congrats to Coach Chow. He
will be an awesome coach! I am so glad he finally gets the chance.
Long time BYU fan from Boise here and a friend to Norm's close relatives in
Idaho. I was always disappointed when he got the shaft from BYU, and even
sadder to see him wear Ute red this season but have always remained a fan of his
and silently pulled for any team he's coached to be successful. So, I'm very
happy to see him get the Hawaii job. There are plenty of other former BYU
players and coaches available to help Kyle Whittingham continue to build the
Utah program as it moves forward in the PAC-12.Congrats Norm. I'll
pull for the Warriors to be successful now too!
Best of luck to you Coach chow! Thanks for all of the great memories at both
the Y and the U! We will be cheering for you on the Islands, except against the
Lots of interesting detail in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that's missing in the
Deseret News report: Chow was born in Hawaii, got passed over for head coaching
the job 16 years ago for one of the least successful coaches in Hawaii football
history, and his salary doubles to $550,000 in Hawaii on a five-year contract,
but it'll be half the $1.1 million annually his predecessor got on a losing
record. The Star-Advertiser says Chow becomes the first Asian-American head
coach of a major U.S. college program. He also becomes an inspiration for all us
post-retirees in the islands ... if he can turn around the program. Chow
graduated from the same Hawaii private school as Barack Obama. He'll get a big
Aloha in the islands, where UH football is the Big Kahuna.
B C | 5:46 p.m. Dec. 21, 2011Park City, UTAfter Utah's season ending
meltdown against one of the worst teams in the country, Chow could see that
there was no future for him on the hill with the kind of QB talent he was given
to work with at the U. ______________Nice try. Pathetic.
The Hawaii fans wanted this hire long ago after Fred von Appen was fired in the
90s. However, the Rainbows, now Warriors, hired June Jones instead, which was
also a great hire. Glad to see the Hawaii fans finally got their guy.
Hate to diss coach Chow, but look at his last four years as an offensive
coordinator: 2008 @ UCLA 10th in total offense in the PAC 10. 2009 & 2010
8th in total offense in the PAC 10. 2011 last in total offense in the PAC 12.
Not too impressive. Coach Chow, like all coaches has been successful when he
has great players to work with.
TheHailstormDon't forget it was Utah's PAC 12 player of the week
that saved Utah at WSU the week before who missed those three FGs. Utah was
lucky it didn't lose back-to-back games against two of the worst teams in the
PAC 12.There was no future for Chow at Utah.
@Alpha ChickenActually, 54-10 will be Heaps legacy. Chow had very
little to do with that.
IMUA Brutha !
I believe he is a very honorable, good man. I do believe also he is waaaay past
his prime. BYU 59, UCLA 0. Don't even bring up the 54-10 fiasco, that had
nothing to do with Chow or utah's offense. I wish him well, but I'm not
optimistic for the future of Hawaii football under him.
Congratulations Coach Chow. I would have loved to see you stay at the U, but I
can't blame you for taking this promotion to a Head Coaching job. Hawai'i just
hired a great one. Thanks for sticking around until after the Sun Bowl. Utah
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter what is posted, there has be a Utah
and a BYU fan coming up with something negative to say about the other. Why
can't people just say what needs to be said about the good things someone has
done. Coach Chow was a great coach, I thought he deserved the head coaching job
at BYU when Edwards retired, it didn't happen and life moves on. He is a great
offensive coordinator no matter what anyone on either side has to say. I hope he
does great at Hawaii except when he plays BYU. Good luck Coach Chow.
@ B C Don't make this into something bad. Three missed field goals didn't
help that game , but the 54-10 beat down at RES was a sight to behold. He sure
helped out Hays in the final 5 games with having no turnovers. Good Luck
Coach. Loved having you here !
Good luck coach chow! I hope to see a dominate Hawaii team in the near future.
Can't wait to see what you bring to the Hawaii program!Go Warriors!
Good luck to coach Chow.Hey Utes, I heard that Gary Crowton is
looking for a job.
After Utah's season ending meltdown against one of the worst teams in the
country, Chow could see that there was no future for him on the hill with the
kind of QB talent he was given to work with at the U.
Best of luck, Coach Chow! This is a win-win for you and the Rainbow Warriors!
Congratulations on your new opportunity, Coach Chow. You have certainly earned
it.Thank you for what you did for the Utes this year. I wish you
were staying with us longer, but I hope things go well for you in the Islands.
Best Wishes for Norm Chow to succeed - again. I got tired of BYU
fans trashing Norm Chow when he was at BYU. One said over and over again that
"Norm Chow is over the hill" and BYU needs to replace him.Kyle
Whittingham is obviously better at selecting assistants than are the BYU fans.
Sorry to hear he is leaving the U, but cant say I blame him. Sounds like a
wonderful opportunity to go home. Doesn't hurt that home is Hawaii either. Hmmm,
mybe I'll go too! 54-10 was his legacy as a coach at the U I guess.
I wish Coach Chow the best. Glad he is staying through the bowl. Have always
thought he would not be at Utah long. Now, who do we get to replace Coach Chow?
We may have one on staff already. How is this going to effect recruiting?
Good luck Coach Chow!
Did he accept the invitation to go live in Hawaii while he was standing in that
blizzard shown in the picture? Hmmm...I wonder if that had anything to do with
Happy to hear that Coach Chow will be staying with the Utes through their bowl
game and grateful that he helped build the BYU program. Good luck to him at
