If Peterson truly understood "the condescension of God", he would embrace the writings of Calvin and reject the LDS Church's doctrine "that all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel". Obedience to laws and ordinances (the Torah) never bring salvation. The promise of salvation was made to Abraham over 400 years prior to Moses' "laws and ordinances".

Peterson just doesn't get it.

Your on thin ice buddy when you start quoting from the NIV and stray from God's favorite bible, the KJV. On second thought that passage did read a bit smoother.

Speaking of love...

*'Homosexuality Is a Sin: Rick Perry Tells Bisexual Teen Why He Opposes Gays in the Military' - By Buck Sexton - The Blaze - 12/19/2011

while calling me a sinner.

I think the works versus faith argument is a firmly entrenched conflict in Christendom.

Many of Paul's teachings focus on faith/mercy rather than the law. But he also makes it clear that God does not condone breaking of His law. See Romans 6:15.

James puts it in perspective when he states, [faith without works is dead]. See James 2:26. Nephi also adds a perspective when he says we are saved by grace after all we can do. See 2 Nephi 25:23.

I dont think any Christian can ignore either faith or works.

Our Savior gave His life so that we might be forgiven if we follow Him. He actually suffered the eternal consequences for all our sins. Would He not want us to avoid sin?

Yes, our return to live with Him and our Heavenly Father is a gift, given without being deserved. But we must take on Jesus as our debtor, and follow His outlined path to qualify, not necessarily earn, but qualify, for that gift. Acts 13:38-41, Romans 8:32, Hebrews 5:9, Alma 42:15.

Just my take on it.

Scientist: Trying to tell some one that they "don' get it" when you don't get it appears rather silly.

Pagen: I don't like being told I am a sinner except by those who do love me. It's the love that makes the difcerence. As I am am sure you are aware, all have sinned and fall short of the kingdom of god.
We are all being told we are sinners while being told we are loved. Mr. Peterson is correct in pointing out god does love us despite all our sins. Otherwise he would have just abandon all of us. Most people forget the very first thing that Jesus taught:

"Repent"

So easy to forget that when trying to justify our selves before the mediator of our salvation.

Jesus shines brighter. He does make the sorrowing spirit sing.

16 And he said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God?
17 And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things. (1 Nephi 11:16-17)

This is one of the most beautiful testimonies of Christ in holy writ. Thanks for sharing.

RE: Pure love led Christ to descend the courts of glory.

Its helpful to know there are more than 2 words for love in Greek.
Agape love; Christians use to express the unconditional love of God, agape love there is no other word to express such great love. *Philía love means friendship or affectionate, family.

Love(agape) never fails. (1 Cor 13:8 NIV). faith, hope and love(agape). But the greatest of these is love(agape).(1 Cor 13:13 NIV)

The Third time he(Jesus) said to him, Simon son of John, do you love(agape) me? Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, Do you love(agape) me? He said, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love(*Philia) you. (John 21:17)

But Peter realized he would glorify God and follow him to the Cross. And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. (2 Peter 1:13-14)

This part right here?

It compeltely discredited your post.

To claim that you 'don't' like something...

but then you 'do', when someone loves you.

Majority of the Judeo-Christian faiths have a few things in common. Along with Repent...

is also Judgement.

Judgement is meant for the almighty. To Him that you owe fietly too is the ONLY person who can sit in judgment.

If all are sinners...
why do some choose to judge others?

Answer: To feel superior.

And as such, remove God from a place of impartial judgement.

But this is not just a theological debate.

How can you claim to 'love' someone, while insulting them? What of the persons who follow OTHER faiths?

Do you 'love' a Hindu when you call them a sinner? A single mother?

To claim love while insulting someone is two faced. And filled with the poisionous Double Standard that is part of the Moral decay of this country.

You do not INSULT a person, while claiming you LOVE them.

You simply, love them.

And leave judgment, for that day.

"Love the sinner; hate the sin" first in ourselves then in those for whom we have stewardship. Fortunately for us, that includes everyone, at least in the Savior's hands.

I liked Peterson's article. It was well thought out and presented with kindness, love and understanding.

How sad it makes me to read comments that treat his words like "pearls before swine." They trample good and beautiful things into the mud of their anger. Their comments are more heat than light.

When I think of God's condescension, I remember Jesus is the inheritor of all that is the Father's. He is in perfect harmony with eternal divine law. I'm the one who has hurt my relationship with God, having broken those laws. And yet, because of unfathomable love, it is He who made sacrifice; paid the demands of justice required by eternal divine law for my offense. He did it to share His inheritance of the Father's Kingdom. How humbling. Where He leads, I will follow. His law is love.
