.xxx domains will just mean even more porn out there. This will not make it any easier for parents protecting their kids as they're packaging it.
For years, corporations who use .com domains have also bought .net and .org domains of the same name. This allows the corporations to pick up people who are looking for the corporation but who use a .net or .org instead of a .com Now, corporations will just add .xxx to their collection of domain types.
However, as one poster noted, if people are allowed to invent any domain type they want, it will be impossible for corporations to collect all of the domains types since there are an infinite number of types that could be invented. I'm not in favor of a lot of government regulation, but I hope this "blank" domain idea isn't implemented. I'm not, though, in favor of government forcing all porn sites to become .xxx sites. That would open the door for government to force other web sites to have particular domain types. The only real solution to porn is to (a) have corporations that offer protection schemes filter sites due to the content of the pages, and (b) individuals and families must learn to regulate themselves by choosing sites with the content that really want to view.
