I cannot imagine what hill will have to pay him when he recruits a quarterback.

But I am happy to congradulate any successful cougar alumni. Congrats to Whit.

I agree that it's absurd to pay a coach $2 million. But at least Coach Whit puts in the long hours and deals with the stress. Hire/fire assistant coaches, recruiting, game prep, player injuries, player attitudes, off-field incidents, regroup after losses, keep players/team from getting a big head after wins, in-game decisions, halftime adjustments, etc.

But what is truly disgusting is Albert Pujols getting $25 million A YEAR to hit a baseball. I would add fielding to his job description, but he plays first base, so not really. Perspective.......

All you folks whining about how much he gets paid have to realize how much a great coach is worth to a university. A bad coach will cost his university much more that a good coach who is paid a bit more. They are giving him a raise because he is that valuable to the school. The football team brings in loads of revenue!

He lives off of urbans recruits.
How can they justify keeping him around, let alone a raise?

So, how much of that $2 million comes from taxpayers?

Ducky,

Credit where credit is due. You're absolutely correct about student fees having to cover shortfalls in facility funding. However, that to will now be softened by the infusion of PAC 12 money.

Ridiculous. NCAA and the U need to put a salary cap on coaches salaries. Like $250k. Put the rest towards dropping student tuition.

re: motorbike

Nothing I wrote was wrong. kyle was not the head coach for the 2004 season. urban was the head coach. That is all that I wrote and it's correct. I don't care that kyle had an honorary co-head coach title for the bowl game only. urban was the head coach and kyle was an assistant. period.

I'm glad you're fine paying kyle $2.2 million/yr for being a middle-of-the-road pac12 coach. I don't care.

What a twisted sense of priorities.
Roughly 200k per game.

This will prove to be a waste of even more Taxpayers money, just as it was when Utah was paying 3 Basketball Head Coaches at the same time. Now it's down to just 2.

Simply amazing that the 2nd smallest stadium, next to last in attendance and only the 10th ranked Academic institutuion in the Pac 12 can waste taxpayers money like this.

The Taxpayers bought the U of U Olympic stadium, they (UofU) pay their Engineering Professors 140k per year (for 4 hrs a week in the classroom), and we all wonder why Tution keeps going up and up?

As Utah settles into a perpetual sub .500 team (see Tom Lovat) this to will prove to be yet another blunder by Chris Hill.

These wannabee's at Utah has brought us all to this, what a joke.

@Who am I sir

BYU has top 5 Accounting and MBA programs.
Yes, they understand the Free Market.

That is why they would "Never", in a desperate knee jerk reaction, offer a .500 Coach, 2 million dollars per year.

BYU pays for their facilities before they are even started. They also have perpetual Maintenance Endowments in place before construction begins.
They are Fiscally Responsible. Utah is not.

BYU does not need the hard earned Taxpayers dollars to build their facilities either.

So enjoy your new 80k sq. ft. football facility, while BYU enjoys their 125k sq. ft. facility.

And enjoy the U's 80k sq. ft. Indoor practice facility, while BYU enjoys their 120k sq. ft. indoor facility.

A Coach who couldn't get his team focused enough to beat one of the 5 worst teams in America (D-1) on his Home field in the biggest (one time shot) game in the History of Utah Football, deserves a raise?

BYU also would never be caught paying 3 Head Basketball Coaches simultaneously, even after 2 of them had been let go.

There is a reason why the Y runs things in the Black, and the U is always in the Red.

"CougFaninTX - that's like saying that Bronco's salary is paid by tithing...which isn't true. But if it were, I'd rather my taxes go to Kyle than tithing to byu football. now that's a joke."

I guess you get what you pay for.
How much does Bronco Mendenhall get for a season?

Bluto, "the U is always in the Red." lol! I get it. Yes, they always will be.

Utah ran BYU out of there own stadium? No, BYU ran BYU out of there own stadium. Most of BYU's turnovers were self-inflicted and you know it. It would be a completely different game with Riley Nelson behind center now. I hope you guys have a quarterback coming next year because it looks like Wynn may not be around, and with Nelson coming back next year with the toughness he brings to BYU you should be concerned.

@ Bluto:
You said: A Coach who couldn't get his team focused enough to beat one of the 5 worst teams in America (D-1) on his Home field in the biggest (one time shot) game in the History of Utah Football, deserves a raise? First, Every team has a bad game once in a while. Second, that was in no way our biggest game in school history. Third, Witt has gotten his team up to win many big games including the Sugar Bowl. Fourth, how well did bronco do at getting his team up for a game against a team that would go on to lose to Colorado? Bye the way, bronco will never have to worry about getting his team up to win a game like the Sugar Bowl, because he will never make it to a game like that.

Kyle's team is 7-5 and he receives a raise to $2 million a year along with an extension because he did a "very good" job? That is over 40 times more than what the average teacher in Utah makes, some of whom are outstanding at their work.

If the U wants to use private donations to award Kyle for his mediocre performance coaching 12 or 13 games a year, so be it. Let the private donors throw their money away, but stop wasting tax-payer money just because "everyone else" is doing it.

Meanwhile, Governor Herbert is pleading with the Utah Legislature to give our teachers a well deserved raise and a few more dollars to buy much needed computers for our overcrowded schools.

@ Bluto: You said: That is why [byu] would "Never", in a desperate knee jerk reaction, offer a .500 Coach, 2 million dollars per year. Neither would Utah. Wittingham has a 65-25 record here including an undefeated season and has never finished worse than 7-5. And if you had half a brain youd realize that his raise was based on more than this season alone.
You said: BYU does not need the hard earned Taxpayers dollars to build their facilities either. No, but they do need hard earned tithing. Id rather my tithing didnt pay for byu football, but I can deal with it, so deal with your taxes paying for our football program.

@ Mark321: By your login, Washington, ASU, and Cal did not beat Utah, Utah beat Utah due to self-inflicted turnovers. Also, Colorado did not beat Utah, Coleman Peterson beat Utah with missed field goals. So the only team to really beat us was USC. Wow, this fantasy world of yours is great.

If you don't care what we pay our coach, then why are you even commenting on this board?
