One small clarification: Carlino has been with the BYU team almost a year now, but becomes eligible for his first game Saturday against Baylor.

What's with Utah wearing red at a home basketball game? Boy, are they mixed up at that school or what?

Couldn't have timed that one better, becoming eligible right before our toughest opponent of the season.

College basketball in the state of Utah is not much different than football. BYU'S record just like in football is inflated by an easy schedule. They got blown out by the only really good team on their schedule and Saturday will again show that they are only a good team, nothing more. One and done in NCAA if they make it.

Utah is absolutely horrible, many say the BYU game has been the best they have played. They scored 42 and got beat by 19 and that's their best. Ouch.

Utah State is not going to make the NCAA, but will have a winning record because schedule is weak and they are very good at home.

Weber, SUU and UVU are mediocre and none of them will make the NCCA because Weber will lose to someone in their Conference Tournament if Liiliard has an off night.

Junior College and NAIA are the only things worth getting excited about just like football with Snow College.

Arynen - Kind of like Watkins becoming eligible just in time for the u's toughest game of the year.

Great to see that AJ Reilly still has a year left. He was one of the great prepsters in San Diego history. Blowing out his knee while playing football at the U was a set back, so it is fun to see him playing well again.

Very informative, well-written article.

Who will have more Pac-12 victories at the end of the season? Utah or BYU?

"Who will have more Pac-12 victories at the end of the season? Utah or BYU?"
We see how that worked out when it was posted for football.

The sad thing is "number of Pac-12 victories" is the marker of success for Cougar basketball. They must be taking victory in the WCC as a given.

No actually its not the marker of success for Cougar basketball. The marker of success will be winning 20+ games again, and competing in the conference tourney for a title and NCAA bid.

Unlike the U, whose marker for success, is successfully throwing the kitchen sink at San Diego Christian and eeking out a last second win.

Or maybe not having more transfers than wins.

Marker of success, huh? LOL! My question was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. And it is certainly no "given" that the Pac-12 is a better BBall conference than the WCC. What's the record of the team picked to win the Pac-12?

I am guessing that the y and U will have the same amount of Pac-12 wins. However, Utah will definetly have more Pac-12 losses. I miss the days of Majerus.

The Aggies are having growing pains and missing their big man due to injury. USU will be in contention for the MWC title and stronger in February and March for the challenges they are facing now.

Re: Go Big Blue

That would be impressive if USU could be in contention for an MWC title considering they are a member of the WAC.

toosmartforyou,

Tom Holmoe told me over the summer that he has talked with Chris Hill and they decided that for the rivalry football game both teams will wear their home uniforms from now on-- Utah will be in red, BYU will be in blue, no matter the location. Although he was talking about football, I am guessing that it extended into basketball and maybe other sports as well. I like the idea.

As in most years, BYU is *THE* university of Utah.

@Unlucky: for the record, BYU hasn't been one and done the last two seasons. The Utes on the other hand has been "None and gone fishing" and will be looking for a new pond to fish again this season.
