I bet this team can lay the smackdown on Utes men basketball team right now.
Enjoyed watching this game. However, there's both good and bad in this blow-out win:
- BAD: Prayer layups. I understand this is a religious institution, but, hey, throwing up layups in hopes of making it just doesn't work. I've not seen so many missed easy layups in a long time by any college basketball team, men or women. Don't they practice layups anymore? Concentration, ladies, concentration.
- GOOD: Aggressive, non-stop defense, including a lot of full-court pressing. That's a trademark of this team this year. Shows really intelligent coaching and a willingness to wear yourself out. Kudos to the ladies and the coach! Even with the so-so offense the Cougars have this year (should have scored nearer 100 in this game), their defense should win games, or keep them close enough to win some tough ones.
- BAD: Defensive rebounding was pretty much non-existent much of the time. I was amazed how such a "lesser team" could get so many offensive rebounds, including many from just hustling harder, over the Cougars. That needs to be remedied.
Looking forward to further games by the Lady Cougars, especially once WCC play starts. Maybe the offense will improve?
