Alec is a spoiled rich guy, used to getting his way.

I am confident that he was "in the wrong" in this situation.

Most know that Alec is a Democrat
And
Everything can be turned into a political argument by those partisans that just want to bash the other side.

Several observations

- this is not a political issue, but, most comments to follow will make it political.

- This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, although, many comments to follow will paint Alec as your typical mainstream liberal

Please dont make more of this than the Spoiled, bratty, rich guy story that it is.

Just another liberal has been. Still feeling that he's smarter, wealthier, and better than everyone else. The whole plane should accomadate him. After all he's better than any of the other peasants on that plane.

Just another one of the 'Do as I say, but, not as I do' people.

Not a very nice person! Where does that come from I wonder?

Jay: Why don't you ever write about how much more brutal past civilizations were compared to today?
There is no doubt you could pin point an isolated instance from 100 years ago where a person was much less considerate than Alec Baldwin was in this case, but you ignore that fact that a certain percentage of people behaved poorly since the beginning of history. I would say poor behavior is less acceptable now than ever before.
The truth is, society is getting better, not worse.

Do unto others as you would have the DO UNTO YOU.

Works for manners as well as for so many other things in life.

I never thought much of him as an actor, a vocal democrat and now he confirms my idea of his character, which is not very good.

I wish we all would go back to the social etiquette of the 50's.

The problem is that some people think that they are exempt from "rules". Some people think that they can force others to abide by their "self-made" rules. Some people think that they can demand special privileges and that everyone else must accommodate them and their special privileges.

The problem is that some of those people who have that mindset have been elected to high office. One of those people sits in the Oval Office. He thinks that he has the authority to dictate to us things not authorized by the Constitution. In fact, he believes that we need a new Constitution that would allow him to have the powers normally held by a dictator. Some members of Congress also have that mind-set. They think that they can direct some members of society to pay the bills for other members of society.

Until we all have "proper manners", until we all respect duly appointed authority, until we all respect the Supreme Law of the Land, we will continue to see members of society acting in a selfish and boorish way, whether they are on an airplane, or whether they sit in the Oval Office.

It all comes down to the kids thinking that they are the center of the universe. Some of that comes from the "everybody gets a trophy" mentality to the parents that spoil the kids.

This is a societal problem, much like the failing schools. Nothing will change until we, as a group, realize that there is a problem and work to fix it.

As I understand, Baldwin complained that others on the plane were also using their smartphones and stated this to the flight attendant. That is the same is a child's defense when he cries to his father: "Gees, Dad, everybody else is stealing! Why you mad at me?" My Dad (thanks old man) would have knocked me on my kiester for such a immature apology.

I believe a major contributor to the decline of decency is the plethora of "reality" TV shows and other media that put forth the notion that it is not enough to achieve something, you must crush and humiliate others in the effort, and you do so with pride and glee, giving no thought to accountability or the well-being of others. We are now going on nearly a full generation of this kind of message in our daily lives, so there should be little wonder that our real lives are shaped after the fake lives in the media.

"It concerns not hurting other people while pursuing something you want.
That is a fairly basic requirement for a civil and orderly society. "

I agree. I also think that too many members in the church believe they have an excuse to not abide by that "rule" ever since the conference talk telling us that we choose to take offense. Nowadays (and I have even seen this on the boards) some people think they can insult and act anyway they want to and put all the blame on the other person by telling them its a choice to take offense. Common decency needs to rule here -- if you choose to act in a way that would likely offend others, you need to stop the behavior -- whether or not someone "choses" to take offense!

Alec's a lout, true, but that doesn't mean jefferson high in 1925 was paradise. I doubt you could've attended the dance if you were a little bit black or Jewish, good posture or not. Some things get worse, some get better.

Agreed. The same as when someone bashes a member of a political party on the boards and other posters chime in claiming the other party does it to. Whenever I read that I think of little children pulling at their mothers skirt wanting something that they can't have. They lose ALL credibility for me.

The Patonizing, liberal, progressive establishment may wonder when civilization has come to a halt how it all happened. It wasn't those who proposed that we abide by the Constitution, the laws of God, and our unalienable rights. It won't be those who said that marraige was between a man and a women, nor that abortion was evil, or that Homosexuality was a choice! Perhaps they will look in the mirror at that time and won't repeat what they have been repeating for years, "Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? (i.e. Don't tell me anything but what my prideful, amoral self wants to hear!)"

With all the time and money spent by conservatives to tout independence and self reliance, why is it that conservatives are the first ones to jump on people who demonstrate their independence.

Seems like only yesterday we were chastised by the imorality of taking from one to give to another. Today we are told we should accept the arbitrary rules of some special gurus about how we look, speak, behave and use utensils.

When theres so much fret about the rules we put upon ourselves by our government, why do we not complain and balk at the ridiculous and mostly unnecessary rules created by strangers we probably dont even know.

How about a little logical consistency?

He's a good representation of the left wing mindset; compassionate for the masses in the abstract, but rude, selfish and arrogant when it comes to dealing with people.

@Kami.

Kami, sometimes people TAKE offense where NONE was intended. Example: Saying "Merry Christmas". Might offend some people, but it was certainly not the intended result of the person saying it. I hope that your solution would not be "just say nothing". That would offend me.

This is the same guy who called his daughter a "a pig" to her face.

Alec Baldwin is a pathetic individual.

Baldwin is like many celebrities, past and present. What is in decline is the media attention and obsession with these spoiled people. Look at yourself, media.
