Agriculture and business employing mid level workers have used illegal and cheap visa labor for years, now the higher paying employers want the same benefits. With over a million a year coming here legally on green cards, plus close to that many ov visas, do we need more immigration with our high unemployment?

Business sees the writing on the wall for illegal immigration, and it's eventual enforcement. They want to make sure they can still find non citizen (cheap) labor.

Business has declared war on the middle class.

"According to the Department of Labor's 2006 Strategic Plan, "H-1B workers may be hired even when a qualified U.S. worker wants the job, and a U.S. worker can be displaced from the job in favor of the foreign worker."

"The violation rate in the H-1B program is 21 percent. Among employers with 25 or fewer employees it is 54 percent. (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services "H-1B Benefit Fraud & Compliance Assessment" September 2008)"

The U.S. already has unlimited "O visas" for the world's "best and brightest."

We are going to force Americans out of college. Who wants to spend years in school, knowing you will be replaced by a foreign worker a decade or two before you retire.

"But they also showed support for proposals to increase opportunities for high-skilled legal immigrants to enter the U.S. workforce and streamline the process for employers to hire foreign workers." - Article

What, isn't that discrimination... to select a highly skilled over another? I though America was against discrimination and that all immigrants had an equal chance to immigrate. True, we can't take all who wish to immigrate but we should not be discriminating.

"Seventy-two percent of people indicated allowing foreign-born students educated in the United States to accept jobs in the United States after graduation was 'definitely good' or 'worth a try.'" - Article

I don't think we need immigrants of any kind or sort. We have enough smart people here in America to get by.

Furthermore, these 'smart' foreigners should go home after their education to assist their own countries.

And even further, we don't need to educate foreigners in our colleges and universities. There are plenty of Americans who are not able to go go college due to lack of space. Why give this limited resource up to foreigners?

I guess my background as a law enforcement officer led me to first look at the organization that conducted the poll: The Partnership for a new American Economy, composed of business leaders and mayors. Well, let's see who these mayors really are:

■Michael Nutter, Philadelphia;
■Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles,
■Michael R. Bloomberg, New York City
■Julian Castro, San Antonio
■Phil Gordon, Phoenix.

Guess what? these are liberal, secular progressive mayors who preside over sanctuary cities.

If this isn't a slanted poll, I don't know what it is.

Also, some of the business leaders in the organization have pushed for higher limites for foreign workers.

Not one word about our millions of unemployed.

Other questions asked by the Des Moines Register.
Eighty-two percent of respondents favored securing the U.S.-Mexico border

Ninety-four percent of respondents favored or could live with an immigration-status verifications system for businesses

85 percent were open to punishing businesses that hired undocumented workers.

While only 46 percent called illegal immigration critical, 27 percent more called it important and another 16 percent rated it somewhat important.

The subjects they cited as being more important were job creation the debt, economy etc. All related to illegal immigration.

DN again tries to fool its readers by inserting and obvious liberal element of the Republican party in Iowa to drive home its amnesty advocacy. The smart readers who comment are able to flesh out the truth.Almost anyone knows that
Michael Bloomberg, Michael Nutter, and of course Antonio Vilaraigosa representing NYNY, Philadelphia and Los Angeles are long time amnesty proponents.

Americas Best, and Brightest caused this the Deportation Recession.

We need Hard Working "Humans".
Not more Royalty.

January 2008 began the E-verify Law, the I.C.E. Deportation Progam, and most importantly, the "Worst Recession in U.S. History.

Tens of thousands of vacated Immigrants dwellings triggered/caused the "Foreclosure Crisis."

Fact: For every good, hard working Immigrant Deported since January 2008 America has lost over four times as many American jobs.

Fact: Every Stimulus Package, Bail Out, Cash for Clunkers, Jobs Bill, Mortgage Help Plan, Ect. has occured since the start of the January 2008 Deportations by two Presidents now , and has only been "Treating the Symptoms of the Deportation Damage to America.

The Hard Labor Immigrants gladly did for America was the very Foundation of our once Strong Economy, and this Hard Labor supported all other American jobs.

"America is great because it is good, when it ceases to be good, it ceases to be great."
Alex De Tocqueville

Ripping good, hard working Parents from their legal Children, and Families is NOT GOOD.

"Amnesty is not a dirty word, it is the very Basis of all Christianity.

Many legal Citizens will need some "Amnesty".

Immigration Reform should be the "Hot Button".

The January 2008 start of the I.C.E. Deportations is what caused this Recession, and is what has cost America to lose millions of jobs.

The Great President Ronald M. Reagan facing a large National Deficit in 1986 basically did two things, he lowered taxes, however most importantly he treated "Human Beings" as such, he granted "Amnesty" to approx: three million un-documented Immigrants.
Over the following twenty-two year period approx: twelve million more un-documented Immigrants came to the Greatest Country on Earth the only way poor, non wealthy people can. This twenty-two year period was the most Prosperous twenty-two years in Total U.S. History, until the start of the January 2008 Deportation Program.

We Americans need to remember the Values, and Principles that Built our Great Nation of Immigrants.

Sometimes laws need to be apllied regarding circumstance, and Tempered with our True American Values.

Over Five Thousand legal Hispanic Citizen Children are in Foater Care with their Parents Deported.

No True Christian could support this.

It is time for people to get back to Econ 101 and Adam Smith when it comes to immigration, and reject the emotional appeals of the National Socialists.

I am being literal when using the term "National Socialist" and not reactionary or over-the-top. Their rhetoric of the anit-immigration crowd plays on nationalism, and they promote greatly expanding the power and tyranny of the national government. The socialism part is the subsidizing of unproductive workers born in the US, instead of allowing everyone to compete and the best to win. Finally, it is tied together by blaming all the countries problems on an unpopular ethnic group - "the Mexicans." This is unequivocally National Socialism.

For those who complain about "amnesty" and "breaking the law" - how many of you pay the "Utah Use Tax" on your internet purchases? If not, you are cheating on your taxes. Also, the guards in immigration jails systematically skim money. This is real corruption and real crime. Why don't you put effort towards fixing the corrupt immigration prison system racket?

Unemployment rate holding steady around 9%... the last thing America needs right now is more immigrants.

@DavidNichols: Correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't there a bit in the sacred texts about following the laws of the land?

You can't just fling the doors wide open and let anyone who wants to come in do so. It leads to anarchy and total national collapse.

We have religious laws and we have secular laws... both have their place in society and one should not trump the other.
