In 2A you talk about Millard winning five of the previous six. But you have forgotten that they have won it all but 3 times since 1998. That's 11 of the past 14.

Wrestling is arguably Utah's best sport in relation to other sports. There are great wrestlers in this state and this state produced probably the greatest amateur wrestler in US History in Cael Sanderson. Yes, wrestling deserves its own hyperlink!

5A is open with PG the favorite. If the two guys Viewmont lost for the entire calendar year due to injuries can get back to form they will be tough. Another things that is great in Utah is 2 wrestlers from each team goes to region and can qualify for state where they can score team points. It makes depth important. Best overall team in the state is by far Box Elder. I agree with Eagle, Utah wrestling is nationally recognized. Thanks to D-News for the write up. Hope to see more.

Great article - thanks. I also would like to see a wrestling tab added to the High School section.

SportsFann, "Best overall team in the state is by far Box Elder." Don't know about that - I would not be surprised if Maple Mountain knocks them off this year. Delta/Mountain Crest/Millard aren't that far behind.

It is nice to see an article about wrestling. Thank you Deseret News. This sport seems to be an orphan sport.

Not to cause any undo frustrations but,the best team in Utah over all in wrestling is Millard, for generations. Delta would be second. These two little schools from the same county in central Utah have created the most consistantly winning teams. The Ironman Tournament held at Millard is tougher then state for many teams.

A major player on the utah high school wrestling scene who seems to be frequently over looked is binghams jj larson. Making his entrance at 182 this season, larson dominated his way to and through the layton invitational, pinning all but two of his opponents in the first round. Bradon gibson of west jordan, who was ranked number one in 5a at 182s at the begining of the season, was the last to be defeated by a mark of ten points in the finals match. Its curious then that larson should be ranked behind connor mortenson of kearns when he has not only majored mortenson in his own gym, but continued on to later best him in the region 3 semi finals. Mortenson, a proficient wrestler in his own right, was pinned by gibson during the same season. In his junior year Larson placed 2nd at the lit, 7th at the rumble, and 1st in region three before fracturing his ankle in the first round at state. He currently holds an 8-0 record with 5 pins. Whoevers putting out the rankings really needs to do their homework a little better.

Don't leave South Sevier wrestling out. They are tough with Quarles and Leavitt.
