Also, the fans need to back up John L. He even said for this to work they need full support for it to happen.

Fans, students, WSU administration need to get it going. No more lackluster support.

Weber State wants to take its football program to the next level - winning playoff games.

They now need to back up that talk but paying more for not just the head coach but assistants. Mac had a high turnover due to low pay. Weber also needs to step it up with the recruiting budget.

Mac did wonders with one hand tied behind his back for 6 yrs.

If you want to compete with the Montanas then back up your new coach!

    Go 'Cats!

Can any school in the State of Utah, with the exception of Urban Meyer hire a coach that has no Utah ties whatsoever?

I don't know anything about his policy of discipline or in bringing players into a program that have interface with local authorities; but I think it comes with the territory. Top players will not be coming to Weber State, so the marginal players available to him will be just that in the skill positions. There are a lot of local players that can play at the Big Sky level. That is a plus. I think his reputation will be a plus, and if he can put together a decent staff with the limited resources at WSU he should do well. One question will be, does he have the energy and enthusiasm at this point to fire up players as McBride did. Best of luck Coach Smith. Go get 'em Wildcats.

Another great hire for Weber St. He'll stick around until retirment.

Hope he rides into the sunset on a high note at Weber. I was mad that he left USU on the verge of having the program turned around but I probably would have done the same if offered triple the money.

I think bringing in someone on the back end of the career is better than getting someone climbing the ladder. The ladder climber is gone very quickly for the next best thing. McBride stuck around maybe Smith will. Could give the program stability.

Excellent choice. I wonder what happened at Michigan State after such a great start? Oh well their loss is our gain.

Jim Rome still plays that guy's meltdown over some botched field goal. I hope he still has the same fire.

I'm sorry Wildcat fans but this is a MISTAKE! He captions a ship with NO discipline. The only thing exciting about next year will be the Ogden City Police department working with Weber State police department.

Watch the quality of your student athletics go downhill FAST!
