To Riley: May the force be with you this Saturday!

Heaps should transfer, or plan on Redshirting, I wouldn't be surprised if Bronco adopted this kid, he is what Mendenhall is all about

Why is BYU messing with Heaps?

He stepped up when Riley got hurt, and now he gets put back on the bench? Nelson got rewarded for stepping up, but Heaps can't catch a break.

Hawaii is going to hurt Nelson if he's not careful. Hawaii hits hard. They seem to hit harder when playing BYU.

I'm more concerned with the receivers for BYU being scared. We all talk about which QB to use, but we forget how BYU receivers clam up and drop balls.

I guess we can write off the Hawaii game just like the TCU game. Since he is a returned missionary his status with the team apparently has nothing to do with throwing the ball or turning the ball over. I'm sure he is a great guy. Too bad he's not a quarterback.

Ahhh the hyperbole. I can't wait for the game. Although I am sick of the quarterback drama, I am happy BYU has plenty of quarterbacks to choose from and hope the best man wins. Go Cougars.

Is Harmon saying the sun comes up in the west?

I do love to watch Riley play, but he is one hit away from another collapsed lung! Good Luck Riley.

In an effort to preempt any trolls from posting mindless babble about the BCS, weak schedules, the conference of champtions, 54 - 10, ad naseum, I wish to point out that the exalted and all wise BCS rankings tis week place:

BYU #33

Utah #51

Utah State #76

Not saying anything for or against any teamse, just stating the facts.

MacNasty,

That is good stuff, but I have no idea why you're posting it to an article about Riles. Curious....

Riles is as tough as they come and as smart as they come. I am confident that he is the smartest guy on the field 99.9% of the time as he is a future doctor. He is also among the most nimble QBs BYU has had in quite some time. Maybe since the Doman-ator (interesting that Doman is now his OC).

Is Riles also one of the toughest cookies to ever play at BYU? Let the debate rage if he plays and wins against a hostile Hawaii team that will settle for nothing less than victory on their field. Personally, I hope they rest him so that he is ready for the bowl game. I've seen Tulsa play, BYU's projected opponent, and they are one of the best teams no one is talking about (probably top 25).

Riles is also mature enough to lead the team.

Riles > Jake (Jake might be the 3rd best QB on the team)

Riley Nelson is a metaphor for making the best of your situation and making things happen. He creates an energy in the other team members that is not to be denied. Jake Heaps is watching and learning. Both are great qbs, and BYU is in great hands.

Co Cougars!

Once again Harmon goes for both the hyperbole and the continual encouragement of a QB controversy. "Heaps may or may not have a future in Provo" c'mon Dick. Get serious. Any objective observer knows that Nelson is one hit away from being knocked out of the game and/or season. I like watching him play, he seems like a good guy, but get serious, he can't sustain that type of play. Therefore Heaps should certainly stick around, learn all he can, practice like a monster and if he can overcome Doman's coaching, he'll have a great future in Provo.

Re: Broom Hockey Champ

I'm posted the comment because if you noticed, the trolls post their babble regardless of the topic of the article. It was an effort to try and keep things on topic. Hope it works.

Riley's a tough kid and I enjoy watching the games he QB's more than Heaps. Just more exciting to watch but I'm not concerned about the outcome or the future like Cougar fans.
It's a close race though between Bronco and Harmon who has more man love for Riley.
Good luck to the young man.

Re: Broom Hockey Champ

Just curious why you call him "Riles" in your post like he's your BFF? Kinda creepy if you ask me.

I love my BCS membership.

Yes, we chocked hard. But how many other teams in Utah were 1 game away from playing in BCS conference championship with a Rose Bowl on the line the last game of the season?

@Chris B

There were no teams in the state of Utah that were one game away from playing in a BCS conference with a Rose Bowl on the line. There WAS one team in the state of Utah that happens to be in a BCS conference division with one cheating team and 4 other college football rejects that did nothing on their own to put themselves in a position for just such a scenario as you stated earlier. It's bad enough that you BRAG about ALMOST going to a conference championship when your team would only have made it because a better team wasn't eligible. But how on earth do you have the nerve to post ANYTHING after your team lost to one of the worst road teams in America at home on senior day with everything on the line? That's not just a choke. That is an all-time failure that will be talked about for ages.

Getting tired of all the comments of people saying we need to develop Heaps. We are developing him! The best thing for him right now is to have a clipboard in hand. Lots sophmores and freshmen are starting at QB all over the country and are doing great so that's not a good excuse for him. He simply is not mentally prepared for the big time yet.

Here's to having three good years with Jake rather than 2 bad ones!

Inquiring BYU fan's want to know,

Can Riley lead BYU to a BCS Game and win it, or is he limited by his lack of Arm strength ?

Riley can be a leader, tough and gritty , a Football Gym Rat, give Great fireside talks, but if he can't take BYU to a BCS game because he is limited in his abilities is it worth losing Jake Heaps.

Bronco said that Jake will play in the NFL one day. I hope his lack of Patience doesn't backfire on BYU. Bronco and Doman are rolling the Dice, I just hope they don't come up Snake Eyes.
