"(Robert) Jeffress described Romney's Mormon faith as a 'cult,' and said evangelicals had only one real option in the 2012 primaries. ... Asked by Politico if he believed Romney is a Christian, Jeffress answered: 'No.' "
So, Obama said....nothing about Mitt's faith.
That, was Jeffress & Fox News.
Bias stinks.
Stick with facts & present them in a neutral manner.
Thank you Mercedes for publishing an article about Ron Paul in the Deseret News. There are quite a number of us local Ron Paul supporters and it's great to get any mention of his candidacy -- even an article about the dearth of articles. :)
Personally, I find Paul's platform the most compelling as far as it how it addresses our national economy, the budget, foreign policy, civil liberties, and the principles championed by our Founders. As media cover more of his actual platform, I find that many of my neighbors are similarly impressed with his actual solutions -- and not just the soundbite dismissal of them out of hand.
I hope this means we might look forward to an article or two detailing some aspect of Paul's actual platform. Thank you again!
I applaud Mercedes White for both noticing and reporting these facts, and the Deseret News for permitting this. I hope that they won't get into figurative "hot water" for doing so.
Truth is the last thing a lot of people want to hear; hence, the state run media won't even give him the time of day. Alas, however, there are a few that want to know, hear, and live by the truth and don't hesitate to support someone that believes the same. His record is unblemished for standing by the constitution. Ironically, Utahns talk a big game, but lean more toward a progressive view of it, or in some cases outright mockery!
Agreed with DougB and DaveGarber1975. Thank you Mercedes White for writing this. I'm convinced that if more people have the opportunity to hear Ron Paul's words straight from his mouth, they will see his sincerity and the wisdom and experience he offers. He's the one consistent conservative in the race, and the one worthy of the title "Champion of the Constitution."
Ron Paul does not get the media coverage because main stream media knows that Ron Paul is not electable. It is as simple as that.
Brief Overview of Congressman Pauls Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year
Ron Paul receives more donations from active military men and women than all of the GOP candidates combined, and almost double what Obama receives. The Troops are telling us something, lets listen! Ron Paul 2012!
@Fitz
Did you even read the article, he took second in the Iowa Ames Straw Poll by a margin less that 1%, like the article stated, if that was a real election vote it would of been recounted. He is in a statistical tie in Iowa right now, so how is he not electable? He has been elected to congress 11 times so obviously he is electable. Do everyone a favor and please stop regurgitation Mainstream Media talking points. Do the patriotic thing and read the constitution and listen to Dr. Paul's policies and you will notice that he truly is the "Champion of the Constitution"
Fitz,
Why are you so sure he's not electable? He's been elected to US Congress a dozen times -- many times against all odds.
Like many other ultimately successful Presidential candidates, he didn't get much traction in his earlier attempts at the highest elected office in the land. But this time he has what is arguably the largest and most organized ground game in the country. He gets the highest number of unique campaign contributors, wins the in-person straw polls across the nation, and is currently in first or second place in both of the first two States where the Primaries that count will be held.
Furthermore, Paul does better than any other candidate in electability against our incumbent President Barack Obama. If Paul can actually secure the GOP candidacy, he has greater support amongst Independents by double digits against Obama -- the only GOP candidate with that kind of cross-over appeal.
So, while I'll agree that he might not be *the* most likely candidate to win the GOP candidacy yet -- it's evident that he's 'one of the most likely' and that he is eminently electable if he can do it.
The establishmenbt is clearly against Ron Paul because he stands for constitutional values. He wins a lot of polls and they are desperate to supress that information. When Perry failed They went with Romney, When Romney failed, they went with Cain, When Cain failed, they went with Newt and so fourth. I bet Santorum will come from the bottom to take the lead when Newt fails to appeal. Anybody but the true leader people want Ron Paul.
When Ron Paul is given 89 seconds of speaking time out of a 90 minute debate, there is definatley a bias going on.
I'm happy to see the article about Dr. Paul. Now please give the people an article that outlines some of his ideas or his voting record. There are a lot of people who are told lies about him and consequentially think he's a terrible choice. Please write an article outlining, for example, his economic plan to cut $1 trillion in the first year and balance the budget by year 3!
As I expected, there are a lot of Ron Paul advocates on this board and, as usual, they are quite vocal and defensive. If I am not mistaken, this is his third shot at running for president. The first time was as a libertarian.
@DougB (did you graduate from Olympus in 73) I am confident he does not have a chance because he attracts only the extreme right. To win the presidential election, you have to attract the independent voters. There is no way Paul can do that. In a Congressional District in Texas, yea he can, nationally, there is no way. It is great that you all back him, but take a look at reality; Ron Paul's libertarian positions will not attract the votes he needs to win in the GOP convention; yet alone the General Election.
@Monkey Spider - Straw polls, like all polls, are meaningless. Iowa is a small state and no clear front runner, and, last I heard, Romney and Gingrich are currently, statistically tied in New Hampshire. The value of winning Iowa or New Hampshire is overstated. Perry will carry Texas, if Perry sticks. Paul will not carry any state.
The lamestream media will be doing ANYTHING THEY CAN to see that Ron Paul doesn't get elected.
It would upset them too much. Lamestream media like "sameness". Things like bureaucracies, lobbyists, entrenched ideas, etc., are important to them!
If Ron Paul is the Republican candidate I will DEFINITELY vote for him.
If Newt Gingrich is the Republican candidate I will also vote for Ron Paul.
I don't like Gingrichs' amnesty position.
Yo Fitz,
So if all polls are so meaningless how do you figure you have any idea who will win. The fact that he's run before doesn't hurt him many former presidents had to run more than once in order to get the job. The fact that he leans Libertarian doesn't mean he can't win that just means he supports freedom and liberty something that many people support. You'll have to help me understand why "he can't win" because it seems to me that he can.
Fitz, you might be missing the point. If any of the people that you mention win the election we are guaranteed endless wars, spending, bankruptcy, and Depression.
Ron Paul simply states stop the wars because we can't afford them (and they only create more hatred and terrorism directed against us, live within our means, let the markets decide pricing instead of Federal government controlled by special interest groups, and follow the Constitution. There is nothing radical about this.
It's the mass media and the establishment that wants you to think Ron Paul is fringe and can't win because if he does their gravy train is over.
Please check him out on the Internet. See what he stands for. Vote for the best candidate and not who you think is going to win only to keep our country on the path to self-destruction.
There is a reason why Ron Paul is only funded by average Americans and not by special interest groups as are the others.
Any and all consideration that you give this matter will be much appreciated by the future of America.
Best regards
Say it isn't so? The DN is posting an article about bias in the campaign for president? oh goodness ...
Leo..., I do not believe that any of my comments predict who the GOP candidate will be to challenge Obama. I did state that I think Perry, if he stays in, will win Texas, but that is only one state. The front runner status of candidates in the GOP has vacillated so often that it is impossible to pick a winner. The votes that count do not start until January and a lot can and will happen before then. And the front runner will vacillate up to and until the GOP convention, although I believe it would be better for the GOP to rally around one candidate sooner rather than later. The longer the internal sniping goes on, the better it is for Obama. But, that convention would be a lot of fun to attend.
And, as I stated above, the independents and moderates will not vote for a far right platform such as Paul has.
The only thing I am certain of is that if Obama is reelected, then this Country is in for a very bad four more years. The GOP must take the White House and gain votes in the Senate.
"I am confident he does not have a chance because he attracts only the extreme right." - Fritz
As an Independent from California, who voted for Obama in the last election, I currently back Ron Paul. Speak for yourself if he's not the candidate for you. His popularity is indeed growing, especially among moderates and young people. The media should not have the right to deliver what 'they' feel is fit, but to report unbiased facts. And I'm sure the media realizes a lack of exposure hurts anyone's chances.
@Fitz,
You do realize that Ron Paul has the majority of the independent votes compared to Obama? And he also attracts people from the far left too who believe in individual choice and liberty. He also attracts all the young people and far left people who are anti war. I find it interesting that you think Ron Paul hasn't attracted the independent votes, but the polls show otherwise. Maybe next time before you write a post, research what you're writing about, otherwise you just come off as an uneducated idiot.
@Fritz,
Also, coming from Texas I can tell you that Perry will not stick. I don't know a single person in Texas that likes Perry or would vote for him. The only reason he even won the last election is because he suppressed the tea party candidate with his money. Otherwise we'd have an actual conservative as our governor who isn't bought out by his corporate partners.
