Do cougar fans really understand how pathetic they sound criticizing the U after playing their lowsy schedule and getting drilled by the Utes at LES? The Cougs played four decent teams; Texas, TCU, Utah and Utah State and went 1-3. No doubt it was a disappointing season for the Utes, but I can't see why BYU fans are hyped up about their wins against the likes of Idaho, Idaho St, New Mexico St.,etc. Let's keep things in perspective.

Congratulations on getting us into the PAC inaugural conference championship game! Oh, and by the way, you're fired. -UCLA Athletic Director

Neuheisel fired and going to championship game. What does that say for Whit & Chow? Time to re-evaluate.

    You're a perfect example.

You're coach is a perfect example, too.

    Thanks for your fantastic insight.

    @ Dave S

I'm happy for Kyle. The 54 - 10 allowed him to keep his job because beating BYU is Utah's Number One (now and always) goal. We've heard much more about that than the possibility of "going to the Rose Bowl" which anyone with an ounce of grey matter knew was just a fantasy.

Apparently beating 2 - 10 Colorado wasn't a priority for Utah, was it?

An undefeated season? Wasnt that some years ago, using Meyer's recruits? "Irrelevance" applies to your two BCS wins, too, by now. How many National Championships or Heisman Trophy Winners do you have that we can ignore? How many WAC or MWC Football Titles? We know Utah never won a Track-and-Field Championship in the MWC, did they? Your just very lucky you don't have to play Utah State in the Vegas Bowl.

Once again, I'm happy for Kyle. (And for you, too.)

"Irrelevance" is your clever new little thing now that protesting Max's comments has grown old. But with the Utes it's always something, isn't it?

    @54-10

The only team the Utes beat with a winning record (unless you want to count Montana State) is BYU. For all the hype about the PAC 12, things really haven't changed much. Just like the old days, your biggest win is BYU. The PAC 12 isn't really the PAC 12. It's the Big 3 and the little 9. And any way you spin it, Utah is in the little 9.

UCLA hasn't made a good hire for years. No reason to think things are going to change now. The PAC12 south is an embrassment if UCLA is in the title game.

The fact that the Pac-12 South champion just fired its coach is all you need to know about the Pac-12 South.

"...After last weekend's performance, every team in the PAC-12 (went)South should be declared ineligible for any more football this year. Let's call it a mercy rule. For the fans...".

Throw in all the teams, those PAC-12 South teams defeated this year, and you've got yourself a deal.

Who needs the helicopter bowl anyway?

    Re: toosmartforyou

That is the most ridiculous post I've read in a while. Have you forgotten about an undefeated season and BCS bowl victory a mere couple of years ago? Who cares about the beat down we gave to our little brothers again this year. We have much bigger fish to fry and Kyle Whittingham is the perfect person to get the job done.

Go wallow in your confererence of irrelevance and don't worry about Kyle!!

  • toosmartforyou Farmington, UT

Utah could maybe get him but they love Whittingham, the guy who lost to UNLV 27 - 0 and said "I don't know why we lost" and the guy who lost at home to Colorado last Friday, you know, the team that hadn't won on the road in 4 years. If Rick and Kyle both applied for the same job the hiring authority would ne hard-pressed to pick a winner.

I understand Rick has ruined 3 programs, not just two, so maybe he'd get the edge over Kyle. It's pretty funny that Kyle has 54 - 10 to keep him employed and UCLA's biggest loss ever was to BYU. Oh well, beat those Cougars from Provo if you want to keep your job.

I was wondering if you could say Neuheissel ran CU into the ground. If so it would be three programs he ran into the ground: CU, UW and UCLA...

And yes, the Utes should get used to a lot of 7-5 seasons. Sometimes 8-4 and 9-3 on a very good year but 5-7, 6-6 on a bad year but the PAC-12 was down this year and like the poster said above, new coaches that know how to win will be hired at AZ State and UCLA, Rodriguez will want redemption at U of A which will be a better fit for his offense than Michigan and USC will be off probation.

We all knew this was coming when he made the coaching changes over the summer. This is bad news for the u, as UCLA should improve with the coaching change and actually get off of the "25 Worst AQ football teams".

Neuheisel was a darling of the media and the most overrated head coach in college football. It will be interesting to see which program he ruins next.

Collegiate coaching is a brutal business. No doubt that is why bigtime programs schedule as many patsies as possible to pad their W-L records. I don't think victories versus any teams in a lower classification should be counted in either basketball or football. It's just wrong. I also think that unless there are improprieties in a program, both the coaches and administrations should be held to the full contract with coaches. Coaches should not be allowed to run off to another job, nor should they be relieved of duties early. I mean really, what is a contract anyway?

Unfortunately he will get another job. Mr. Holmoe ran the Cal program directly into probation and he got himself a new gig.

    Keep it coming.

Coaching is a tough business. Whit is certainly not in jeopardy after one year, but at what point do fans / administrators start looking for a replacement for him? If the Utes are 7-5 again next season, is that acceptable? What about three seasons at 7-5? Utes schedule will be even more challenging next year, with games against Oregon and Stanford in place of lower rated teams.

Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA will be bringing in new coaches who will be gunning for wins against Utah. Colorado won't accept this type of year from their new coach indefinately. It's all about winning.

Even at BYU, three lackluster Crowton years were too many after a stellar first year.

Maintaining the dominance that BYU and Utah had in the MWC will be challenging as an Indy (once the schedule gets ramped up)and member of the PAC12. Hopefully the coaches can rise to the occassion.

Well, this is the second program he ran into the ground. Let's see if anyone else wants to pick up someone who will destroy their football program. I was as suprised as anyone when UCLA picked him up, but then again, it is the PAC 12. IMO the PAC 12 is a petty thug conference. Anytime you have to petition to go to a bowl game with a losing record just shows how low your conference is and really how arrogant they are.
