Painting church stuff may make him a big deal in Utah but it isn't going to do much for the world of Art. Paint fine art, not propaganda.
@ Dektol: How rude! If you looked at the pictures that came with this article, you would have seen a painting of Michelangelo, and one that was a forest/meadow scene. If you had read the article, you would have learned that he paints scenery from the places he has lived, also. Not just paintings of Church leaders and places. If you don't like what he does, don't read the article!
Just something I noticed, the artist is left-handed. So were many of the famous artists of the past, including Michelangelo. Not sure if that has anything to do with creativity, but is an interesting bit of information.

I wish they had shown more of his works. I have had the opportunity to see a few of Mr. Shaws work and while I am not LDS but as a fellow artist I can assure you his work is fine art. The idea that art should not be controversial in nature (or as you call it propaganda) shows your lake of understanding of art.
