Weber is the best team right now because of Lillard. USU will improve as they gel and figure it out. ybu could be good if they figure out the pg position. Congrats to Weber they shot the ball and played well.

The *print* edition of this morning's DNews sports-section is dominated (front page, above the fold, ALL-IN-CAPS, GIANT FONT) by the gigantic headline for this article:

That sorta implies that this WSU victory was a "stunning upset" of epic proportions. Whazzup with that?!? This wasn't a "shocker" at all! Everybody shoulda known that the Wildcats would WIN that one!!

As usual, Randy Hollis did an excellent job writing this article! PROPS TO YOU, RANDY!! But the "Headline Editor" (for that print-edition headline gaff) needs a spankin'. 8^)

Best sentence in this entire article:

"Yes, folks, Weber State just might have the best men's basketball team in the Beehive State this season." (3rd line down)

Randy Hollis is The Bomb! Great work, Randy.

Way to go Weber!

I guess Jardine wasn't running around as if he won the Super Bowl every time he hit a shot in this one like the BYU game. I seriously watched a USU player fist pump himself after he made a free throw last week. They need to act like they've won a game before.

"Weber is the best team right now because of Lillard."

No, Weber is the best team right now because Rahe has quality players surrounding the best talent on the team. They are not one-dimensional and Lillard is not a selfish player by any means.

I'm very excited at the prospect of what Weber might do this season (and next.) Lillard, Bullinger, and "Mook" really didn't come close to playing the games they're capable of. Any night all these players collectively put it together, Weber will be the best team in the state and one of the better ones in the country. GO WEBER!

Maybe if you combine the best players from BYU, USU, and Utah, there might be a team in the state that can beat those wildcats...maybe.

I guess USU can't play all their games in Logan against BYU. Tough to have to leave, huh? Good teams don't play for one game, they prepare the same for everyone.

@InspectorC: I agree, Hollis is a great sports writer (Randy, please come back to the Standard.) However, I'm not too concerned with how the headline reads whenever the media is showing Weber some love.

It's quite nauseating to hear and see U & Y coverage 24/7 from the local TV news and talk radio. One TV news coverage last night jumped on the BYU/Big East story (of course), had in-depth video coverage of BYU/(D2)BYU-Hawaii, and even had a video story regarding The Jimmer-- who cares? But, as for a good, in-state rivalry game in O-Town-- well? They did post the score and mis-stated a few things as they mentioned a very few player stats.

This same station will run a in-depth, 10 minute report with video, player/coaches interviews, side stories and the works when BYU plays a hapless Utah team. It serves them all right when the state's big two are slighted by the national media/organizations, they do the exact same thing locally. I wouldn't be surprised to find that this is just a little added effort to handicap the smaller schools recruiting efforts even more.

Only a few teams in the nation can have an epic home court advantage as USU. It really helps in those year you have the most undeveloped team in a few decades. So props to the kittys, relish it for it won't last. Nice headline by the way.

Watch out, folks! There is a new sheriff in town, and he is from Ogden.

Congrats, Wildcats!

re: still blue, Congrats to the Wildcats they played good and are the best team in the state this year. With that said Weber is like 2-8 in the last 10 against USU so maybe they should prepare every year not just once every 4-5 years. That's what good team do, right?

Ogden, UT

Weber State Basketball is awesome!! Best team in the state this year!! There will be no stopping Lillard, Bamforth, Bullinger, Otis, and the rest. Go Wildcats!!

By the way, why were the USU cheerleaders and mascot at this game? The Dee Events Center is not your arena. Your handful of fans were up in the nose-bleed section where no one could hear them and they were too far away for you to interact with them. All the USU cheerleaders did was stand around and take up space. They didn't do anything. I didn't get it.

I am an Aggie fan that is completely impressed with Weber St. I know it is incredibly early in the season, but if they continue to get stronger than this, they will make some noise at the end of the year. They can shoot the 3.

On a side note, there were a few comments already made that makes me think there are some BYU fans still bitter about the loss in Logan.

Amen to all your astute observations. Hopefully the Wildcats' victory last night will WAKE UP the local media to realize they need to start giving Weber State Basketball equal airtime and column-inches.

A couple more observations from this morning's DNews *print* edition article which show subtle bias or inequality:
1) In the article covering this game, the DNews embedded a USU logo in the column... as opposed to using the WSU logo. Hello!
2) Where the Page-1 sports article carried-over to an inside page, the DNews editors used the connector "AGGIES D4". Why the total "focus" on USU?? Why didn't they use the connector "WILDCATS D4"?!
3) A related article (on Page D4, by K Williams) focused entirely on Coach Morrill, and his post-game analysis of what his Aggies team did wrong to lose the game. Why didn't they do an article --instead-- on Coach Rahe, and what the Wildcats did right to win this in-state rivalry game?

I realize these are nitpicky points, but I make them to show the subconscious or subtle biases that occur in the media.

But, again, great job on the article itself, Randy Hollis!

tm58 you really want to talk about "a handful of fans?" Come to an Aggie game in the Spectrum and see how a team that is good should be supported. Aggie fans support their team at home and on the road and you guys get 1/3 of your arena filled for an instate game. Great fan base for sure........
