Republicans need to allow a slight increase in taxes as well as broadening the tax base. Nobody, including myself, likes tax increases, but the situation we are in requires a serious effort to bring our debt to a manageable level.
Democrats also need to be realistic and serious. Entitlement/social programs must undergo major adjustments. Unfunded liabilities will increase our national debt by the Trillions! This is not sustainable. Obamacare is an approach to spread risk out over the entire US population and thus maintain the Medicare program benefits. This is not cutting anything, but maintaining and even increasing the program penetration throughout the population.
Reject Obamacare, reduce mandatory spending by cutting or reducing government programs and liabilities such as social security and medicare. I am not trying to take food from the mouths of babies, like the Democratic fear-mongers would have voters believe. Rather, American's want financial stability. Slightly higher taxes, a broader tax base (no more of this 48% of Americans paying no taxes), and dramatic reductions in federal spending will attain financial stability.
We have our heads in the sand if we don't see the writing on the wall. Look at Greece and Italy folks.
