The back-up QB for Skyline was very impressive! His receivers dropped a few catchable balls that last drive, but he found a way to keep moving the ball.

I'm just confused on why the Skyline coach insisted on throwing the ball on 1st on the 5, 2nd on the 5, 3rd on the 2 (offside penalty), and then ran the triple option with a sophomore? QB. I believe he was a sophomore.

I know Skyline is a triple option team, saying that, with a young QB and five yards away, why not just set up a basic power run play up the gut?

That back-up though, could throw the ball!

Congratulations to Roger Dupaix and the Eagles for a great season from his fans in Vancouver Canada.

@tripleoption Although I agree with everything you said I am curious to know who the "new" coaches are. Who is stashing away a coach better than the greatest coach in high schoo football? Who are these mystery men?

Roger Dupaix has done more than enough to earn the right to step down whenver he chooses. He has 12 kids, hes a teacher that makes little money and now after all these years he can finally make some money for him and his family and you people want to run him out of town because he can't win it every year? Shame on the boosters this season. Skyline football was built by unselfish people who put the needs of all in front of the needs of one. Remember that the next time you insult those who have sacrificed blood sweat and tears for each other in a uniform us proud alumni dont recognize anymore because "others' decided it needed a more modern make over. If you want "change" at Skyline start first by honoring our traditions of brotherhood by shaving your heads, worrying about others before yourself and keeping your mouth and mind quiet as you work harder than you ever have for the teammates next to you and for something greater than yourself. Do those things first and you will realize the "changes" needed are yours to make.

@tripleoption let's address your 3 "coaching errors" shall we? 1. Skyline had 4th and goal from the one yard line with 50 seconds left on the clock. How was that a poor use of time-outs? Seems just right to me. 2&3 (since they're basically the same point) East's line dominated the line of scrimmage most of the game and they loaded the box with 9 guys on that goal line stand. Snyder had already fumbled previously in this situation this year (Olympus) and didn't have a chance to get in-sync with his FB on the drive because they had to pass. Why not play to his strengths (passing, as shown on that drive) and limit the opportunity for a fumble (which is exactly what happened)? We can always play the what-if game but fact is when they ran they fumbled, at least they had a chance with the passes and widened the D out so a run up the middle would stand a better chance. You would obviously make a poor coach.

@Nite-Train I couldn't agree with you more. As somebody who knows many players from both schools, East's team is just flat-out physically superior. The fact that the game was as good as it was is a testament to the heart the players had on the field and to the coaching staff for their week of preparation. Unfortunately playing with a lot of heart for one game can't make up for the lack of work in the years leading up to it. Here's to making some REAL changes at Skyline (going back to tradition) and leaving this year's booster club drama behind us!

(@skyline ute) lets break this down, i love Roger Dupaix ie (legend) we all know this. 1. they had no more time outs because they use the time outs early 2 of them served to be no help. sometime one must coach from the sideline so time outs are not waisted.2. there were 48 sec left on the clock when the pass was caught (1 and goal)clock stops on first downs until ball is snap, so lets do some math we are a option team we run the ball 98% of the time. so what do we do best? run the ball !!! for 20plus yrs we run the ball!!!!3. here the point call two plays run dive and spike the ball if you dont score fyi the full back was averaging 5yrd a pop so if he just falls the lenghth of his body its 2 and inchs. we are running team some time all you have to do is do what you do best and always put the ball in the best guys hands in any sport.fyi are rbacks have over 2800yrd combined. great season we had fun.

Go East!!! East High was also without one of it's strongest players on both sides of the ball, Mickey Taylor. Hopefully He'll be back next week. Go Leopards!

Correction: I just watched the game on KJAZZ. I don't want to continue to harp on this this loss but I just want to prove my point to Skyline_Ute (since he said I would make a "poor coach") Skyline did have one timeout left with :46 and choice to run 3 pass plays on the goal line and didn't use the timeout until East got the ball back on offense. Please would someone with any knowledge sound off. There is something seriously wrong here.

Just wanted to tell the boys and Coaches how proud of them I am this year. I hated to see it end the way it did but thats football. If your not man enough to deal with it after the fact then your not man enough to be playing the game any way. Both the Eagles and Leopards left it all on the field and thats the way it should be. No regrets!

Good job to my mighty Eagles! Keep your heads up boys; you represented your School and your community perfectly. My God bless and keep all of you. Best of luck to all of you departing Seniors. From one Eagle to another, thanks for all of your hard work and effort over the years.

Best of luck to the Leopards in the remainder of the playoff's.

On a side note, I concur with Night Train and Skyline Ute 110%.

Hears to next year, I can't wait I am already counting down the seconds...

tripleoption,
You are mistaken. There was no timeout remaining or used after East got the ball back. East took a knee on 1st down, and the game was over.

Skyline used timeouts when East had the ball on the goal-line and their scoring seemed imminent. Had they not used them then, East probably would have scored with little or no time left on the clock.

All you can ask of a strategist is that he puts the team in a position to win the game. Due to good clock management, Skyline had four chances inside the 4 yardline to score and tie or win the game. Looked to me like Skyline played it perfect--they were given the most possible chances to score from a position on the field where they had their highest probability of scoring. They maximized their opportunities to win the game. The kids, unfortunately, couldn't take advantage of those opportunities.

Had one of the passes worked, we'd all be celebrating Roger's boldness. Had they not fumbled on the final play, we'd celebrate how the opening passes softened up the defense. A coach can't win....unless he does!

triple option.. you are exactly right. No one will ever agree on this, many are still in the glory of the great days of Skyline Football. Certain people in these posts have been attacking people all season so don't feel bad.. Even the 6 cheerleader girlfriends waiting for the boys after knew we should have run the ball.. but what can you do brain cramps have been regular this season :) Goldendomer.. go tell all those devastated seniors they need to man up. Sounds like a parent of one of the sophomores/frehsmen that had some difficulties. Sad to see the season end on such a silly mistake that had little to do with mistakes on the field. Great season Eagles, you deserved more than what you got. It was an awseome year of football and can't wait to watch those of you continue on. Go Eagles!

Jetty, You are wrong I thought the same thing until I watched the game on KJAZZ. Skyline did have 1 timeout left. That what's make matters worst. I don't want to go on about this because Skyline boys played well and East played a heck of a game also. The point is it was a bad choice of play calling...bottom line. Dupaix is a great coach but he is not perfect. It happens. I just hope if he in that position again to make the right choice.

I just want to state the obvious.. Snyder should have been the starter all year long!I know he fumbled in the Oly and East game but i chalk that up to lack of Varsity time at QB.I cant wait for next season and to see what this kid can do!!!We should all be excited!! Go Eagles.....

I completely agree with jetty. He is a fine human being an one heck of an american. You would be wise to listen to his counsel. =)

@tripleoption I think watching on KJZZ may have skewed the way the game was presented. There was only one play after Skyline turned the ball over on downs not two. Here are the facts of the last few plays:

Skyline had zero timeouts
14 seconds on the clock
3rd down
the ball on the 1 yard line.

You could have either called 2 running plays in the huddle BUT if you were stopped on the first running play you ran the possibly of running out of time before getting in the second play. OR you could do what Skyline did and pass on third down to guarantee yourself a second play. I thought what was done ultimately gave the team 2 legit chances to score instead of one. It would have been very risky to try and run it twice within 14 seconds. Its hard to get set and run two plays in 14 seconds without a false start penalty. You're asking a lot of high school kids to execute something like that.

tripleoption
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT

Nite-train you are right about the timeouts. I stand corrected. The announcers on KJAZZ said skyline had one timeout left and was confused why they didn't use it. There was a timeout called after East got the ball but it was called by east. You are wrong about the time it was :29 seconds on 3rd down. We can go on and on about this but I would've ran the ball...period. It was the right thing to do. Sometimes coaches overthink a situation. Go for what you know and what's working the run was working up the middle. Also I don't blame the QB for the fumble because he never practices with the first unit nor is he put in that situation during practice. Why they didn't practice that with him after losing one game that way is a mystery to me.

Nite-Train
Bluffdale, UT

29 seconds would have been enough time for 2 plays so I see your point. When people sell out on the goal-line they tend to leave the WR's in one on one situations. We had the right match up to run the fade. We just didn't execute the play. I agree that the FB was killing East all game and I would have like to see him handle the ball twice in that situation. I'm biased having played that position in high school though. You gotta feed the beast baby!

I was also confused by SHS not using their backup QB earlier in this game. I thought the backup played lights out in key games earlier in the year and could have sparked the offense sooner. The reason I thought the QB situation needed to change was more about the body language of the starting QB than anything. He was sulking, standing away from his teammates for most of the game, and was generally disinterested in cheering for his team while he wasn't on the field. I'm not saying he is selfish person or a bad teammate. It just seemed odd. Was he sick or injured?
