You can't shut teams out defensively when your offense can't get a first down.

The Utes defense is too tired, on the field too much, carrying the weight of the team, and ill prepared to make adjustments when they enter the field as soon as they have left it.

How can Sitake dial up a blitz or shift assignments? When his unit goes to the sidelines, grabs a gatorade, sits down to listen to instruction, suddenly, boom, a turnover or three and out happens.

As talented a the defense is, they are banging heads with the big boys. They do it play in and play out, week in and week out. Everybody needs a breather to gather themselves.

Look at the Ravens defense on Monday Night Football. The Jags offense is and was horrendous. The Ravens are a top defense, yet they gave up points and the football game because their offense didn't get a first down until 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. They mustered one score.

The Utes are good enough to shut some teams out, but you can never expect that.

Gotta love Kruger. That's a winning attitude regardless of the team's record.

Offense needs to get its head in the game. Rough times with injuries, but every team knows it happens. What counts is how you prepare for that eventuality.

If your team has no offense, the best defense in all of college football still won't win you any games.

Exhibit A - The 2011 Utah (We're going to win the National Championship, Mark It Down! Uh, wait a minute, we're going to play in a BCS bowl again. Mark it Down! Uh, actually no one really expected us to do that well in our first PAC-12 year, but we'll for sure play in the Las Vegas Bowl. Um, well actually, it's a re-building year. At least we beat BYU) Utes.

(FYI - lost a bet)

I am a Utah man, sir, and I cannot watch much more
The Pac-12 makes us special, even though we're 0-4
Our future was much brighter before this year could begin
But coaches thought it best to bet it all on Jordan Wynn

Who am I sir??? Ummm...I don't know what you're talking about.

Aren't the Utes already living up to non-crimson glasses wearing fan expectations?

Hawkeye79,

as a die-hard ute, I gotta admit.....that was a pretty good post. Made me laugh.

"Trying" is the operative word here, although "failing" is more appropriate in EVERY ASPECT of Utah football this year with two exceptions:
1- They won their 'bowl game' 54 - 10 on Sept 17th in Provo, and
2- They are in line to start getting more money by being in the PAC 12.

Other than that, nothing to show for the change in venue except astronomically higher ticket prices and L's instead of W's. Now about the Rose Bowl----er, I mean the New Mexico Bowl, good luck getting there. No bowl this year, Utes, and no Rose Bowl for many, many years. (Can you say "bottom-feeders?")

it looks like utah put so much energy and effort into beating byu that they now have nothing left in the tank for playing the rest of their pac 12 conference schedule.

wow I didn't realize beating byu is still so important to them. I certainly don't see the same level of energy or effort out of them in playing these other games. it's almost like we're back in the seventy's or eighty's when beating byu meant everything and going 1-10 was okay as long as the one win was over BYU.

Well I hope utah fans don't mind playing their bowl game in september from now on. You can call it the Lavell Edwards Bowl.

NO, no, no. How can you have a bowl game in September and against a non- BCS opponent? Somebody is not toosmartafterall. The utes will play a BCS bowl game this year against a BCS team. Here's my predictions and you can mark it down:

Cellar Bowl-

Colorado 35
Utah 13

I wonder how the old Pac-10 feels about last year's expansion move right now. Utah is 0-4 and ranked 108th in the country in total offense. Colorado is 0-4 and ranked 102nd.

Name the date and the verifiable source where the UTAH AD, a specific UTAH football coach, or specific UTAH football player were quoted as saying "...mark it down..." that UTAH would win the NC, play in the RB, or play in a BCS game.

Utah is 3-0 in our OOC games. What did you think the "old Pac-10" was hoping for? Did you think they were hoping Utah or Colorado would destroy them, and take their traditional spot in the Rose Bowl?

Even after spending an entire academic year at the Y, I never really could understand cougar logic.

The PAC 12 is feeling like they got just what they wanted - two cellar dwellers to help the big boys of the conference pad their records.

Mark it down! I'm making a prediction that Utah plays in the Rose Bowl next season. Guaranteed! Mark it down! (They have a road game to UCLA)

Mark it down! I'm making a prediction that BYU fans are so obsessed with the Utes that they won't be able to resist making more comments on this article.

@Utesby3
Cougar fan's love of kicking ute fans when they're down probably won't change until you've had a few more years of being the new WAshington State of the Pac 12.

As you further cement your place in the Pac 12 cellar, teasing and goading you will become boring. Hang in there, it's a process and will take a few years to complete. Bear with us.

Thanks.

Utesby3--trust me! If things were reversed,-obsessed ute fans would still be making comments. Just call this "pay back".

Pay back for what? The 54-10 and your team quit?

Driving home last night I was listening to the station that carries the Washington State games here in the Seattle area. They have a weekly call-in and coach's show (770, KTTH). The Wazzou fans are thrilled to have Colorado and UofU in the league, and fully expect to beat the Utes in Pullman this year.

On KJR, the Husky fans and local sports jocks have been brutal to their new little brothers on the now-rare occasion when the topic comes up.

I've said since the announcement first came out about the move to the PAC 10.2 "be careful what you wish for." Welcome to the big time.
