This is a NONISSUE.

I'm not defending Romney, but hospitals are FORCED to treat illegals in the emergency room as per federal law. The feds are supposed to pay the hospitals back, but they NEVER DO.
That has bankrupted hospitals in dominantly hispanic neighborhoods.

All I care is that Romney (or whoever gets the Repub. nomination)tries to do something about the illegal trespassing situation!

Does this mean Romney and Perry are competing to be the least compassionate and reasonable candidates?

The title on this article is misleading. And the spin machine and lie mongers are out to destroy the man who can beat The Anointed One.

In the end, Romney will prevail. BHO will be a one term puppet. The next 14 months will be too long.

What does this say about the Republican state of mind? Providing medical assistance to someone who needs it makes them unworthy to carry the party's banner. Who is your neighbor, Republicans? I would rather be a Samaritan Democrat.

I agree with 1conservative ... the U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled that anyone (including illegals) must be treated in an emergency room.

It is so amusing to see the republicans fall all over themselves to see who can be the meanest and toughest against illegal aliens. What is Mitt's position on the Utah compact? Romney fans should be touting Romney's new tough position on illegals to show he is not only not in lock step with LDS church authorities, but is in open opposition to them.

FDRfan:

So what about the other billions on this earth who "need assistance".

You people need to wise up -

.... the U.S. tax payer can only afford so much. The well is dry my friend. We cannot afford to pay for our own, let alone the illegals. This is not about being a Samaritan - it is about common sense and economics. Draw the line. CUT THE SPENDING!! Good grief!

This is easily resolved if people just educate themselves about Romney's record. Romney couldn't ban medical service to anyone. It's a FEDERAL law that mandates hospitals to treat EVERYONE in an emergency room regardless of their citizenship, their ability to pay, or lack of insurance. Romney didn't grant ADDITIONAL access to illegal immigrants during his tenure as Governor. His successor is the one who expanded the scope of medical care that illegals could receive. Sure, some could argue that because of Romney, it allowed the legislature to give them that access but that's an unfair link to make. Romney did NOT expand the coverage to illegals. His healthcare plan complied with federal laws regarding the medical care of illegals and that was it. If the scope of coverage gets expanded to provide more care to illegals, that's the decision of his successor, not Romney. As for the hiring of illegals to mow his lawn, the same concept can be applied to everyone who has gone to a fast food restaurant. I guarantee that all presidential candidates have had a burger and fries that was made by an illegal. Are they employing that person then? NO. Case closed.

* 'U.S. sets another record for deporting illegal immigrants' - By Lee Davidson - DSNews - 08/19/10

'Federal immigration officials deported a record number of illegal immigrants last year the seventh year in a row the Department of Homeland Security reported on Wednesday.'

*Record high: 400,000 undocumented immigrants deported By Elizabeth Stuart DSNews 10/18/11

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement deported nearly 400,000 undocumented immigrants during the fiscal year that ended in September, breaking records for the third year in a row.

When did this happen?

Not under Republican leadership!

"I would rather be a samaritan democrat." Ha ha ha, now that was funny. You forgot the part about using someone elses money. Now thats the demo/liberal way.
Whats interesting with the Romney thing is that both sides of the isle are trying to besmirch the man. The libs must be a little nervous that the anointed one has failed so miserably. You would think that even they would like to get somebody in there who knows something about balancing a budget.

"We went to the company and we said, look, you can't have any illegals working on our property," he said. "I'm running for office, for Pete's sake, I can't have illegals."

Is this all career politicians care about? Whether hiring illegals may harm their election results?

A typical election-cycle article that is written solely to bring discredit and bad press upon a candidate; warranted or not (usually not). I give this exactly zero credence because, as noted above, hospitals are required by law to provide emergency healthcare to everyone regardless of citizenship status.

FDRfan, I think you missed the point. We (US) have millions of illegal immigrants in the US costing the US taxpayer bazillions (rounding up) of dollars. The key word here is ILLEGAL, as in breaking the law. As a Constitution thumpin' Republican I'm not opposed to helping out the poor and needy, but when it gets into the bazillions and the illegal term is thrown into the same sentence count me out.

If this article is accurate. Then we are seeing the real Republican Party in action. The meanest of all candidates will win the nomination.

Romney accusing Perry for providing in-state tuition to children raised in the U.S. who were brought at a tender age to this country by their parents.

Perry accusing Romney of hiring "a company" that had illegal immigrants among its employees.

Cain talking about and electrified fence on the border.

Bachman saying she would built two fences in response to Cain.

This is a sad state of affairs.

President Obama has disappointed many of us who voted for him. But the Republican Party still has no one better than him for the country.

I don't understand why Romney doesn't admit that his health care plan , scripted by him and voted into existence when he was the governor of Mass, why he doesn't admit that what he did was done so in compassion for the suffering of another human being, be they illegal or not. He should be proud of it. But no he is pandering to the far right and is trying hard to "out Herod, Herod'"We do the same for our worst felons

How sad that Romney has to pander to the lunatic fringe, who will never vote for him anyway because he's too moderate and not fringy enough.

Obama will win a 2nd term.

I'm not a fan of Romney for this reason and that he's a waffler. Second he past a version of gov't healthcare plan similar to what Obama passed and will get shot down by the Supreme Court according to political pundits. It's obvious to me Romney is say one thing do another after he's elected which should make people as a whole nervous just like we are now of Obama.

This article goes to show that the des doesn't exclusively write positive articles for romney.
