The top four seeds remain. The Juan Diego turf will provide a different experience. The diversity of teams from Davis County, Sandy, and Utah County shows the positive influence of clubs like La Roca and Forza on Utah soccer.
Some random thoughts:
Word from Davis is that Davis is nervous about playing the "mighty" Hawks. If Davis can keep its nerves in check, Davis will have a chance for the upset.
Coach Mitchell will have Alta ready to play. He has shown an increased willingness to make key changes during games and to play younger players when needed. If Alta stays in form, Alta's experience will be tough to beat.
Eric Landon is a great coach and not only knows his girls from high school, but also from Forza. He should have Viewmont ready to play. It will be interesting to see if Viewmont can deal with the pressure and hype of its Number 1 ranking.
Heather Dahl has an experienced team and Lone Peak has no pressure going up against "top-ranked" Viewmont. Lone Peak has nothing to lose and the lack of pressure should provide the opportunity to upset Viewmont.
Good luck to all of the teams today.
Ranking(s) mean nothing at this point, and "who-has-beaten-who" is of little consequence. Alta is on fire (probably the best team ever from the state) and Lone Peak has continued to get stronger as the season has progressed. Viewmont placed first in the weakest league of 5A and struggled with Northridge in the quarterfinals. Davis has shown signs of susceptibility. Look to see Alta and Lone Peak in the finals on Friday! However, good luck to all of the teams today.
@gb13
The team this year from Alta is not even the best team from the school, let alone the best from the state ever. When you say Viewmont "struggled" with Northridge you are going strictly from looking at the score, they played well it's extremely tough to score on a team that always has 9 players behind the ball.
I'm thinking we will see an Alta-Viewmont final which would be a classic matchup.

"Viewmont placed first in the weakest league of 5A and struggled with Northridge in the quarterfinals."
The only reason Davis won region 1 is because Viewmont wasn't playing in region 1 this year. Just a reminder about Northridge . . they beat Davis the last game of the regular season and ousted last years winner, Brighton, in the first round. Northridge was peaking at the right time, but hey, overlook them if you want, Lone Peak will still need to play way above their best to beat them. Last year Viewmont "struggled" all the way to the championship game. Oh yea!
looks like Viewmont is struggling with Lone Peak, only up 2-0 at halftime. Guess that weak region play is hurting them.
Congratulations to Viewmont and Alta for their "semi's" win(s). Looking forward to a great finals!
should be a great final. Alta seeking revenge for the earlier loss to Viewmont and the Vikes will be out to prove it wasn't a fluke the first time. These Viewmont gals have set their sights on the state title ever since getting beat last year in the finals.
Forget about all the talk of pressure, struggling, weak regions, who beat who this comes down to one game.
Lone Peak played with a lot of heart, but Viewmont was just the better team tonight. Congratulations to Viewmont. Soccer continues to grow in this state, and the caliber of players just gets better each year. I am proud of my daughters who play for Lone Peak. I am glad for Alta and Viewmont and hope the final game this year is as good as the Alta-Davis final 2 years ago.(one of the best soccer games I have seen).
In 3A soccer, Region 10 continues to rule the landscape in girls . . just as it did on the boys side in the spring. Look for Juan Diego with Emily Bruder leading the way to be the last team standing come Saturday at Rio Tinto. The Juan Diego boys didn't have enough to get past the Wasatch Wasps in the spring but the girls will run the table this fall.
Bruder may be the best overall female player in Utah this year . . dominates like Kealia Ohai did a couple of years ago.
Look for Region 10 to dominate spring 2012 soccer on the boys side with defending champs Wasatch leading a fine region with rivals Park City, Judge, and the state runner-up Juan Diego in hot pursuit.
