"As TCU is a private school, their conference affiliation is not controlled by state politicians."

Yes, but Texas is Texas and they will take care of themselves and their interests by leaning on the big 12 before BYU can do anything. No TCU does not bring a home run but it doesn't need to, it just needs to exist in Texas.

I called this a month ago when A&M split. Look it up. There is no sensible reason for TCU to join because all they have is 1 BCS bowl they lost. They don't bring a larger footprint or more eyeballs. They don't bring decades of glory, their facilities are tiny in comparison. The alumni base is tiny.

What do they have? Texas power brokers behind the scenes and so does SMU, Houston. Most o any new Big 12 expansion will be from Texas. You really think the Big 12 wanted BAYLOR last go around? It was politics.

So, what is the better press announcement?

We did not get an invitation from the Big 12.

We got an invitation to the Big 12 and turned it down.

D'Aconia: The same kind of humble pie you are & will be eating- when your Utes do not qualify for a bowl game this year and BYU does & also ends up ranked at the end of the year?

I love how everyone is posting up what BYU / Tom Holmoe / Big 12 is or is not doing. None of you know, and you're all getting worked up about assumptions. Is it possible that the Big 12 has contacted BYU about an invite? Yes. Is it possible that they haven't? Yes. Do any of you know? No! The only things we know as fact are that BYU is keeping silent and the Big 12 media outlets had BYU at the top of the Big 12's list of possible expansion invites until recently. There is a lot going on behind closed doors, and it's really ridiculous to get all worked up about what we don't know. Sit back and enjoy the ride people.

And sorry Ute trolls; BYU will never fall into irrelevance. Lets get real here. It's sad that even with Utah moving to the Pac-12 due to recent success, you all still feel threatened enough by the boys in blue to post your irrational conjectures. It's almost as if you fear you will never be relevant in your new conference, so you belittle BYU for choosing it's own destiny to make yourselves feel better.

I have to wonder if the Lavell Edwards cougars would have been invited somewhere by now. Lavell knew that football was all about the players and that football was just a game and that the players and the coaches were not prophets and apostles and that good things happen if you just play hard and speak graciously to the media. Today, BYU football is known for being whiny and sanctimonious. They are the anointed ones. Frankly, it is getting nauseating. I was a HUGE BYU fan back in the Lavell days. Now I cheer for his boys in red (Kyle, Aaron, and Kalani)

Better to be a team building toward a Pac 10 future taking on good opponents worth paying to watch then getting fat and overpaying for WAC opponents.

True champions want to keep taking on greater and greater foes like Utah does, Utah smacked ALabama, them took time on the side to smack BYU 54-10.

If Utah is a Pac 10 doormat, BYU is the dust under the bacteria that is under the doormat. BYU gets lucky over USU-CHoke University and now you feel all mighty? Let me remind you that Utah beat up on Nelson too. Where was your long haired hero guy in that game? Oh yeah, fumbling.

Hilarious comments from my friends that wear red.

You promote that your U put a 54 - 10 beatdown on BYU to make U look like a great team from the PAC. At the same time, you care so much to suggest that BYU is such an irrelevent program that no one wants them in their wonderful and awesome BCS conference. Yet, your signature win of the season was against the irrelevent Cougars. Can't have it both ways redmen.

Go Cougars and every team that plays U.

Max, that's sad.
I have said for months, I don't see why so many people think belonging to a BCS conference is so great. The money is good but other than that it isn't a big deal, look at the Arizona's & Arizona St's and now Utah, being in the middle or at the bottom of a BCS conf. doesn't make you a great program. Winning makes you a great program, Utah won in 04 & 08 and that made them relavent, now if they continue to lose, they will return to being irrelavent.
BYU has made themselves relevant over the last 40 yrs, by winning and the style of play they present and that is why ESPN was excited to team with them.
BYU has and will always stand alone in alot of ways and I'm just fine with that. The only true church on the face of the earth, only church with living prophets & apostles, only church with the true priesthood, only church that observes the sabbath, to keep it holy, only church with Temples, so many things could be added, standing alone when you have the truth is a wonderful thing and I'm more thanOKto stand with them.

While BYU was thought to be ahead of TCU on the list of potential candidates, the Cougars' chances have reportedly dropped the past few days.

"There is some rigidity at BYU in terms of what they will and won't do," said a source of the school, which doesn't play games on Sunday. "Some of it has to do with church rules, and also the way they engage with media partners."

How do they engage media partners?

Memo to all the BYU haters. Some of you have predicted the slow and steady demise of BYU athletics, but here's my question.

Do you really want to see that happen?

Think about it. Those of you who hate BYU truly need them to stick around just as much as those who love BYU. If Cougar sports were to go the way of eight-track tapes, what would you have left to troll about?

Sure, you could troll about the ups and downs of Utah State or Weber State, but would it really be as satisfying as trolling about the Cougars in Provo?

Imagine if Pringles got rid of all their potato chips flavors except Original. For those of you who enjoy adult beverages, imagine if the only alcoholic drink left in the world was 3.2 beer.

The fact is, no matter what conference BYU sports teams are in, or not in, the more they are hated, mocked and trolled against, the greater the hidden message is revealed. That message is, "Don't go away BYU! We hate you too much to see you disappear."

Just wondering if all the BYU Fans that think you are part of something really special (either now or anytime over the past 30 years) realize that your Cougs are 94-160 against BCS schools or Independents.

Not too impressive and for sure not reflective of a School with a great history and tradition unless beating MWC and WAC schools is thought to be impressive.

BTW...Big SEC Fan. Real college football for over 60 years. Now that's tradition and history.

Sure makes me want to go buy a hat with a big Y on it or get a "Band of Brothers" shirt, or "Rise Up", or go for the "Quest for Perfection", or whatever you come up with next. How about scheduling 3 SEC teams in a season along with 3 Big 12 Teams, and 3 Big Ten Teams. Your Indy now....no excuses. Play a real schedule.
