What are the odds in getting 80 posts on Utah in the same time.

    ===

    Not quite 220.

Still not 257, but Utah is getting some street cred.

You are still not BYU, but no one thought you would be.

Who would have predicted Utah would play so well? And first Ute home PAC game.

I missed it niner. That's why I try not to predict things.

Go Utes, and I HOPE Utah gets a win over a BCS team this year. (Don't want to predict it, and then have it pointed out later when Utah doesn't.)

But they're not. They're 3-2, and all the crying, fussing and pouting in the world isn't going to change that.

Will BYU haters begin a letter writing campaign to the NCAA, demanding the Cougar's wins against Ole' Miss, Central Florida and Utah State be revoked because they had no right to win them?

Bitter in victory. Bitter in defeat. The mark of a true BYU hater.

I have a great idea. If the Utes can get bowl eligible, they can join BYU in a rematch on a neutral site in the Armed Forces Bowl, and we can all watch the Utes melt like they did last year against Boise. That is assuming U can be bowl eligible.

Otherwise BYU just goes to RES and gets some payback next year.

    ------------

Come again? Looks like I'm right here... unlike you, who takes a week hiatus after we plastered you on your own field.

Yesterday? We got worked in the second half. But the fact is, there's a ton of difference between Utah and BYU right now.

BYU still hasn't shown, not one time this year, that they are a formidable team. They should be 0-5 right now... and Utah State, a WAC team, dominated BYU on their home field just like Utah did. It can be argued, with some legitimacy, that BYU is the 3rd best team in the state right now. Your starting, Heisman-grade QB has been so flat this year that he has now been benched.

We lost to a middle-tier Pac 12 team, largely because our starting QB did not play in the second half. What happens to Stanford if Luck gets hurt?

BYU has a lot more to worry about than we do.

    @ Uteology

"Different teams, different years" explains the 27 - 0 loss at UNLV huh? (Tell Whittingham that.) Wow, that ought to work for BYU fans too, huh? But they were the same coaches and same program at Utah, were they not?

I'm just amazed at Utah for this one fact: EVERY YEAR they think they are GREAT and then we learn that their embarassing losses are to be chalked up to it being "different teams, different years." We find ought, with a few exceptions like 2004 and 2008, that the Utes just prove that they only thought they were good. Look at last year when they met Notre Dame (plus two others) and see what happened to their lofty, undersevred national ranking as an example. This year they played USC in LA and UW in SLC and we see how "great" they really are (aren't).

Enjoy the Vegas bowl if you happen to get there. ASU is coming to town and you have no QB to speak of. That might take a miracle for you to win but you guys don't believe in miracles so enjoy the fact you beat BYU. That's the sum of the 2011 campaign. Again....

Welcome to the world of big conference football and the Pac 12. We may not be the strongest conference THIS year, but we certainly are a good and storied one. Funny how so many people think of the PAC 12 as a weak division, and Funnier how they forget the national tiles won by our schools. I remember when Wisconsin was the bottom dweller and UDUB was beating Nebraska. The Utes will win games and they will lose some. You will find a weird parity in the Pac 12 where any team can provide a whipping to another member regardless of record on any given day.

Utah lost to a young, but talented group, one that continues to get better each week. The Huskies have been scored on because teams see the lack of maturity and take advantage where there is that opportunity. The D will continue to get better, which Utah found out. Make no mistake, they do perform well in the red zone.

Welcome to your first conference spanking and enjoy life in the Pac 12, it may take a while, but eventually you'll get the caught up.

Utah fans say have fun playing Idaho State. The last time I checked they are in the same Big Sky conference as Montana State. Utah's 2 wins are against a team from the Big Sky conference and lowly BYU. There is a reason why Norm Chow was shown the door at UCLA. BYU was humbled 2 weeks ago. Welcome to the club Utah. I still believe that Utah will turn things around in the next game or two, become bowl eligible and make it to a better bowl game than the armed forces bowl. This will be due to their conference affiliation more than them deserving it.

Isn't it strange how turnovers can have such a significant effect on the outcome on a football game?? It destroys a game when you have two teams who are evenly matched. I grew up in Arizona rooting for Asu, BYU, and Utah. Until I moved to Utah. It became ASU and BYU. Because as I found you can't root for both. The rivalry is big but losses that get out of hand aren't always indicative of who's vastly better. ASU vs. USC showed that. Turnovers are killer and deflating. UTAH and BYU have a long way to go especially this year to compete with the big boys. I watched Nebraska play Wisconsin, I still believe Nebraska is good, I hope Wisconsin doesn't get a big head and pull a Utah. Opportunistic bounces don't tell how good a team is. How they respond to a win or loss does. ASU should have demolished OREGON State but they pulled it together.

First off, nice game Utes. I think it would have been a different game without the turnovers however I think the Huskies would have still ran wild in the second half.
You will get there, your season is not defined by one game and you don't face Stanford. All the rest of your games are possible wins.

BYU fans are full of it too. BYWho wouldnt even get in a BCS conference because they would choke. Heck their only National championship came against a 6-6 Michigan in a bowl game they barely won. BYU has always talked big but hides behind a weak schedule.

Duh.. BYU fans by the hundreds acting like BYU beat utah last night? Or that BYU did not loose 54-10 to Utah?

Comparing a 31-14 loss with the starting qb OUT OF THE GAME, to a 54-10 loss with no excuses, has no basis whatsoever. Can't make any justifications or comparisons if your a Y fan.

BYU fans storm the field with a win over Utah State- that's where the BYU program is right now.

    Get over the 54-10 loss.

This is our Utah team, who may be without the starting qb, but we've got 7 pac 12 games to go and a game at Pitt.

We have a whole season to look forward to. BYU's season is over.

If Utah wins next week, it's off to the races for a Pac12 South title. Losing last night is just a set back, while loosing next week kills the dream.

Utah fans really shouldn't have high expectations for our first year. Utah lacks depth and the offensive line is weak compared to other Pac-12 schools. It is going to take a few years to recruit and get that depth. This is a year where we know where we'll stand at the end of the season and we can improve on that. Utah will be a great Pac-12 member in years to come. I have no doubt we have the best coaches in the league. We just need to get that Pac-12 talent.

    MidMajor4Ever:

Learn anything at conference today? ABSOLUTELY!!

Remember 14 days ago? 54-10? Yes.

Is your team in the PAC 12? Why does this game matter to you? Nope, because I root for the Utes every time they don't play BYU.

Is Envy one of the seven deadliest sins? How about Pride? Yes.

When will you begin to focus on your new rival, USU? Every time we play them.

After a mid-major independent loses a game what do they play for? Winning the next game.

You think all BYU "fans" are Ute "haters" and most of us are not. I root for Utah every time they don't play another Utah based team and then I try to watch a football game neutrally (not always successful)!! The thing I'm not sure you get is BYU doesn't care that they were not invited to the PAC-12. BYU received inquiries from the PAC-whatever before and told them NO to playing on Sunday, and don't bother asking again if that doesn't change. The PAC-whatever finally listened. I think today's posts are in retaliation for the BYU "hater" posts of 2 weeks ago. MidMajor4Ever, FOCUS!!

thats the worst ive seen the utes play since...i dont know...boise st.? oh and they had a back up qb in that game too. we were in it the first half (until we lost our starter). you know the utes are great at recruiting a lot of positions (LB, DL, RB, Receiver, etc.) but our QB position has been shallow for EVER. Utah isn't really a destination spot for QB's, i'll be the first to say it. but even with a few turnovers in the first half we were still in it...until we laid a huge egg in the 3rd.

Wynn weighed 155 pounds in high school and we are surprised that he is injured
all the time. Whit's worst recruiting mistake so far. Our safeties weigh in
at 185 pounds with no experience in D1 ball and we wonder why they cannot tackle and miss so many reads on defense. They were being pushed aside like bowling pins tonight and for most of the season so far. From Whit's perspective the last thing we need is loyalty and experience. I beg to differ.

Re: niners "Tonight's game proved 2 things...#1-Utah is bad #2-BYU is horrible"

BYU almost beats Texas. Texas is still undefeated. Utah beats Montana State. BYU beats UCF [total offense ranked 4th in NCAA, total defense ranked 6th in NCAA, points allowed ranked 1st in NCAA], Utah beats BYU. Washington beats Utah. USU almost beats Auburn [almost isn't a win but USU should have won just like BYU should have beat Utah last year]. BYU beats USU. Auburn beats South Carolina. Conclusion: Every team is horrible?

As bad as BYU's offense has been, it is ranked 56th in the NCAA to Utah's 86th. Neither team is particularly good this year but neither team is horrible. BYU at least has wins over an SEC team (granted, Ole Miss isn't good relative to other SEC teams but they ) and a very good UCF team. Utah has big wins over Montana State and BYU (with no wins over any BCS teams).

My point is that it would be wise for fans to not point fingers or thump chests.

Nice to see Utah opponents give BYU fans something to cheer about each year, after all your team can't compete on the field.

Final note: Utah was hammered by a better team yesterday. The running game was MIA and in the 2nd half the Ute defense well played like BYUs defense in the 54-10 romp.

ASU is now a must-win for the Utes. If ASU wins, they are 3-0 in the conference; Utah is 0-3 with no chance of the Pac-12 title game. The Pac-12 experiment would be off to a dismal start, and Utah's best chance at the title game for the next few years will have evaporated.

Unfortunately, it's also a can't-win for the Utes. Do you think they'll be able to handle Osweiler, Marshall, or Pflugrad--they're definitely a step up from Heaps, DiLuigi and Hoffman. Plus, you can't expect a total meltdown from the Sun Devils. Defensively, ASU is strong and speedy. Vontaze Burfict may be the nation's best linebacker.

A few questions for the Ute haters:

1 - Learn anything at conference today?

    2 - Remember 14 days ago? 54-10?

3 - Is your team in the PAC 12? Why does this game matter to you?

4 - Is Envy one of the seven deadliest sins? How about Pride?

5 - When will you begin to focus on your new rival, USU?

6 - After a mid-major independent loses a game what do they play for?

I truly hope the Utah haters can put their jealousy and envy behind them and cheer for all five teams in the state of Utah. None of our teams compete against each other so we should hope for the best for all five teams. FYI, it wasn't the U. of Utah's fault that BYU wasn't invited to the PAC 12. I gotta hand it to you, Uteology, you see everything through those crimson-colored glasses. How much did they cost and where did you buy them? (Not that I ever want a pair of them.) Remind me again how Utah had a "bad game" and BYU is totally crummy; that while BYU almost defeated Texas in Austin, but they still lost, that Utah defeating Montana State in SLC was a real accomplishment. (How thick did you say those lenses are?) The Utes have achieved their ALWAYS main goal and that is to beat BYU. This year, unless miracles happen, that's all they're likely to do. (But then the Utes don't believe in miracles, do they?) Well, maybe I spoke a bit too soon; they may go to the Vegas Bowl as the 5th best PAC 12 Team, but I don't see that happening right now.....maybe though. We'll have to see if they can defeat Colorado, their "real" rival.

You know what they say when you assume. I generally cheer for BYU (Unless they play USU). I have been watching each game BYU has played in this year. They were LUCKY to beat Ole Miss. The barely got by UCF. Now try looking at their performance and their future schedule. They haven't beat TCU for several years and they have to play them in Texas. They have to play Hawaii in Hawaii...a team they haven't beat in Hawaii since the 1980s. BYU really isn't that good this year. I'm just calling it like I see it. I don't give a whit about Utah. They are going to have a bad year too against much tougher competition. No BYU fan has anything to be boastful about. BYU wouldn't have lasted 2 quarters against Washington this year. Pretty clear to see who the best team in the state is just by looking at W/L. The same team will likely be the only team with a winning record. Washington, WSU, and Colorado will all be tough. I had my concerns going into this game. I thought destroying BYU, while amusing, wasn't a sign of greatness. Washington proved me right.

But I actually took some encouragement from tonight's game. While the D was suspect I didn't think they were THAT bad. Washington called some great plays and the players executed them very well.

I didn't think Utah's quarterback play was completely atrocious either. Yes Hays made a couple huge mistakes but he made some good throws and runs as well. Coming off the bench I thought he played reasonably well.

I'm still really happy about Utah being in the PAC-12. The only way to get better is to up the level of your competition and then work hard to rise to the challenge. Winning a bunch of meaningless games in the WAC-Lite conference wouldn't really do it for me.

BYU moved the ball easier against Utah than any team they have played so far. Early in the second quarter, BYU had 210 yards to Utah's 80 and they already had 3 turnovers. Utah took advantage of what they were given so props to them, but if you watched the game BYU was doing anything they wanted and Utah was getting stuffed in the first half. When the offense came out in the second half and turned it over again the defense lost it's heart. Yes, that should not happen, but it did. The blowout was because of that, not because of a great Utah offense.

Grandpa use to say "Uncontrolled enthusiasm is like a paper fire, it flames up as fast as it flames out." Utah simply spent too much of its energy on the BYU rivalry game and they seem to have now flamed out. It may just be an indicator of how Utah is going to do for the remainder of the season. One thing is for sure, the Utes will need to prove they belong in the Pac 12 at some point.

USU is a solid team and today's Auburn win over So Carolina shows it. I am glad Bronco has been reading my Desnews comments over the past two weeks, about Doman going upstairs to call a game, using Tight Ends more and giving Riley Nelson a shot in the USU Game. My suggested game plan for next week is to go ahead and start Heaps, but if he misses his first 8 passes by 8 feet again, then be quick to put in Nelson for his energy and leadership. Now there is a team in the PAC that is even more whiney, delusional and entitled than they are. The post-game commentators are being very unkind to the poor new little sisters of the league. I have to admit I was more excited to see Washington win after reading the hordes of Anti-BYU posts after the BYU-USU game.

So you're sitting at the big table now, huh? How do the crumbs on the floor taste? (HINT: You're not one of the big boys yet, just like they used to call one of the conferences in the mid-west "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," Utah is lapping at the crumbs on the carpet, not enjoying the feast at the table. But that's ok, ASU and Arizona have done that for years, along with Washington State. Now those three have the Utes and Colorado to take the bottom-feeders positions and they can move up to the middle.)

So, Being ole miss of the pac-12 is acceptable just because you are in with the big boys? Well, byu isn't necessarily sitting with the big boys right now but they with regularity can play with and beat even the current #1 in any given season. This game is further proof that one can't have four turnovers (or seven) and beat a PAC-12 team. Now that you have been humbled (like BYU), stomp on the rest of the PAC-12.

    Um, what???

Those were two different teams, in two different seasons. The 2007 team was mediocre the 2008 team was the ONLY undefeated team in the nation. BIG difference.

The 2010 17-16 Ute win would be a fluke if BYU was 7-3 against Utah and had bead-down the Utes 3 out of the last 8 years. Since, BYU hasn't managed to beat Utah by more than 7 points since 1996 I can safely assume that the 3 miracle wins for BYU are more of a fluke than the norm.

    @ Uteology

If you want to label "fluke wins" you'd better include last year's blocked field goal in Utah's 17 - 16 victory over BYU. You know that was a fluke because when BYU did that in the Vegas Bowl against UCLA all the Ute partisans said it was a fluke play, so you must agree that it also was for the Utes to win that way, too.

FYI- During the (this really goes back) 1984 Holiday Bowl against Michigan BYU had 5 turnovers---but they had a stellar defense and the Cougars still won the game. With parity in college football it's easy to see that any team can have a bad day---BYU on Sept 17th and Utah on Oct 1st---and that it isn't always a true refelection of their season, just on that particular day against that particular opponent. How else do you account for Utah's win against Alabama in a BCS Bowl Game and them also losing on the road to UNLV 27 - 0? That's why you play the game and those who gloated over BYU's bad game now have their own bitter medicine to swallow after today. Welcome to intercollegiate athletics!

They EEEEEEKed out a victory (on a pure fluke deflected pass) against USU. Great. If they played that game 5 times, USU wins 4 out of 5. A few facts for Chris B, Hedgehog, alt134, mgr63 and others:

    Utah's Credentials-----
    National Championships = 0
BCS National Championship Game appearances = 0
    PAC 12 Conference Wins = 0
    Heisman Trophy Winners = 0
BCS Bowl Game appearances = 2
PAC 12 Conference Games = 2 (see above)
Record playing after bye weeks through last season 6 - 0
Record playing after bye weeks including this season 6 - 1

Utah now knows what it feels like to be scored upon in the first minute (9 seconds, actually) of play. They know what it's like to have too many turnovers, problems at the QB position, and they are probably realizing that playing a bowl in Vegas might be a bright spot this season. No, wait, they did beat BYU----that's always their #1 goal, stated or otherwise. They accomplished that one if nothing else.......

I still hold my prediction that it will take the Utes 3 years to amass 10 PAC 12 Conference wins. After next week, they may easily be 0 - 3. Fascinating and frustrating, isn't it? I heard the first 5 minutes, then turned it off and was texted the final score. Those Huskies came through!! Go ASU!!

Anyone Utah fan with half a brain would have known before today that getting to the Rose Bowl would require a PAC-12 championship game miracle, and that even getting to that game would be difficult since Utah, Cal, Arizona, AZState, USC, and Washington are all similarly skilled teams (when Wynn's healthy) way behind Oregon and Stanford and ahead of the others. Without Wynn we basically had nobody with experience and well...Hays got some now. At this point I'll settle for wins over Oregon State Washington State Colorado UCLA, and then just one of the other games. It'd be 7-5 but... *shrugs* there's not much shame in going 7-5 if you're playing a bunch of good teams and are at least competitive with most of them like that USC game (unless you bragged like an idiot about Rose Bowl participiation).

Now now fellow BYU fans, just because Utah had to rub it in to us does't mean we need to stoop to that level. Remember, most Utah fans are not that bad, I have many Ute friends and not one of them rubbed it in. BYU never had a chance with 7 turnovers. Same for Utah, it is hard to win a game when you have so many turnovers. Second, our Quarterback was not that great and it didn't help us at all. Wynn got hurt and that handicapped Utah, even I will accept that. The only people I care to laugh at is Chris B and johnjinglewhatever and MSG63 or whatever his name is and all those others who constantly throw hate BYU's way. For all the other Utah fans, sorry for the loss. Hope Utah recovers because it is about to get a lot harder next week. Go Kyle, rally the boys and good luck.

This is plain and simple problem with not an easy fix. The Utes starting QB cannot stay healthy and the coaching staff needs to move on and get a clean slate of QB's for next year because if they believe Wynn can stay healthy, then I may as well expect Heaps to be a down to earth team player.

The silver lining is that the Utes are competing well in my opinion against the Pac 12 competition but with a backup QB that has only been on the team four months, you risk it and you pay the consequences for thinking that Wynn could stay healthy. Once there options next year, things could change but Hays is not the answer.

If Jordan Wynn had played to whole game, and the final score wasn't any different, I would be more prone to gloat over the Ute lose. But the fact is, the Utes don't have a Riley Nelson type QB at backup and during the whole off-season I knew the Coach Whitt and his staff were concerned about this.

The fact is, if Wynn isn't playing the Utes are going nowhere. As a Cougar fan, this doesn't give me any satisfaction. If the Utes lose, I want them to be at full strength.

Get well fast Jordan Wynn. Love, a BYU Cougar fan.

As most fans thought, Wynn is just too fragile to survive a full season in the PAC 12. Hays had a nice drive in garbage time, but I'm afraid Utah's slim chances of winning the PAC 12 south are now none existent.

"The Utes fluke victory against the Cougars"

I am sure on some planet in the universe that losing by 17 while your only QB with collegiate experience gets injured is humiliating while losing by 44 is merely a fluke. The only problem with this rationale is that this planet is Earth.

    @ Duckhunter

How can you say Utah fans are going to sit here and pretend we are the better team when BYU fans are notorious for saying they are the better team after every loss, even after a 54-10 loss!
Anyways, that is beside the point...Utah was outplayed by a team that was much more prepared and had an offensive line that destroyed our d line. Utah needs to step up their level of play for 4 quarters! A true BCS team would be deep enough to run the ball effectively , and a backup qb that could at least keep the game close. This will take some time and Utah will be fine in the future. We will need to use this year for experience and make a run for the top of the Pac 12 south (may be a little optimistic, but I believe kyle can turn it around). GO UTES!!

Not an anomaly. Utah is better than BYU.

One could make a case that this game reflects how tough it will be for Utah in the Pac 12... and that means it would be even harder for BYU in the Big 12 (wasn't that invite supposed to come today?)

Utah is proving they are not yet BCS caliber... they cannot let this ruin their season and we still have to go out and compete against the Cal, UCLA, Colorado and Arizona type teams. I hope we can get those wins but we will see. This is our 1st year in the pac and it may take time to adjust to the higher level of play. To think we could come in and win the Pac 12 south was unrealistic and I now realize that. Lets not let this loss ruin our season...
