hate to break it to some of ya, but throwing TDs at the end of the 3rd qtr by
your starter when you are up by almost 50 points is running it up no matter how
you slice it. Im a defensive guy and I believe it is the other teams
responsibility to stop the offense, but come on... throwing for a TD when you
are up 43-7 is irresponsible coaching.
I did go to the game and that was the most effortless 60+ point game I've seen.
I'm not sure anyone realized the score had gotten so high. Coach did take him
out at end of the 3rd. Otherwise it would have been 80. At some point you
have to leave a player in the whole game so he can have the experience. It's
not the player or the coaches fault they are blowing teams out. They just need
to play to the best of their ability and leave it at that. Sky View is a great
school and really I don't think there is bad blood between them. It's nothing
intentional I'm sure
Good points made above! Mountain Crest still undefeated in region. East still
undefeated. This team needs to be prepared for a full game. When the kids are in
the game, they still need to play hard or they get injured. They still haven't
played the starters for the full game yet. They need the test of conditioning.
Too bad about the injuries for Sky View. They look like great kids on a great
team with some good momentum. Keep playing and keep improving.
When do you expect Coach Favero to give his starters a full game to play? Isn't
it coming to the time of the season when these kids get their conditioning put
to the test? Look at the remaining games on their schedule. Look who they might
be facing in the playoffs. Full game time still needs to be tested. They have
just barely started simulating situations in case DJ gets injured. Before
posting coments like you have, look at the whole season and how much time DJ and
the starters have spent in games in the second half. To me, they just look like
a team preparing for a championship run. They are facing both of the teams who
were co-region champs with them last year and then a powerful East team. I
think, but also hope, they are conditioned for a full game. Not a coach nor a
parent of a player---just a fan of a team and a coach working hard to achieve
their goals. BTW-research the score of the Logan Sky View JV game the day
Also if you guys read the story the last touchdown Logan scored was from the
backup QB Jesse Braddy. He threw a TD to Soph. WR Taylor Compton. So I guess
DJ Nelson didnt play the whole game AGAIN!!! Also the reason the rivalry game
was lopsided was SV starting QB, Carver, left game with injury. Great story by
I wasn't at the game, but all I will say is that of all the games this year for
Logan. DJ Nelson, including this game, has only played 3 full games
(cottonwood, spanish fork, and Sky View). He usually will only play 1 series in
3rd qtr and then come out of the game.
I thought the same thing about why would your star still be in the game in the
4th with the game well in hand by that time? No knock on the kid, because as was
said earlier, they just want to play and do what coaches ask. But maybe the
Logan coach should have called off the dogs? Also, did this kid
commit too soon? I'm thinking maybe bigger and better offers would come.
Congratulations to the Nelson family on their big night.I didn't see
this game, but I can read a box score. According to the DN box for this game, DJ
Nelson, who already had accounted for 7 TDs, was in the game at QB in the 4th
quarter with his team leading by 46 points.@Logan coaching staff -
what's up with that? Margin of victory not big enough for you? The young man
already accepted his D1 offer. We all know he's a strong candidate for 4A Player
of the Year. How about showing a little class in that situation?I'm
not a Sky View fan, just a high school football fan. This is no knock on DJ.
Players do what coaches tell them. This was strictly a coaching decision. And BTW if the DN box score is wrong, somebody please post here to set
It looks like little brother didn't want big brother to get all the applause.
