Are you kidding me people are still whinning even on this paper. I thought all
the whinners where in Logan. Great game BYU. It's to bad you can't shut the
USU fans up.
Go ahead and go with Nelson and see how many games you win going forward BYU. A
hint: it won't be more than 5. Nelson is a funky running QB that only throws
with some success because defenses don't think he can throw - and they
concentrate on shutting down his running game. You will win a game or two with
Nelson but BYU will have back to back losing seasons if Nelson is the QB going
forward. Be careful what you ask for Y fans because Heaps is too good to take
his place on the bench. He will transfer and I wouldn't be surprised to see Utah
and Norm Chow try to get him.
Great game! I am a little surprised by the number of Utah fans posting on the
article. With the way Utah DESTROYED BYU, and with the fact that Washington was
coming to town the next day, I would have thought that Utah had bigger fish to
fry. Apparently, I was wrong. I don't know if some Utah fans can ever leave BYU
alone, no matter what happens in the rivalry or the college football landscape.
By the way...whatever illness BYU had on Sept. 17th appears to have been
contagious. Here's hoping that both teams can recover sufficiently to put
together decent seasons.
@ bobco. Pretty obvious you are somehow part of the "Heaps hype"
bandwagon. It would be interesting to know your connection to him. He has done
pretty much "nothing" as a college QB...and I take issue with the Hype
and his followers saying he will be better than the greats i.e. McMahon, Young,
Detmer, etc...Concerning "BYU football again": I wasn't
specifically talking about an "option offense" I was talking about
actually moving the ball and excitement and winning without having to make
excuses or statements like "the better team didn't win last year".
BYU football would be better without Heaps and Mendenhall...they are mostly
"talk" and arrogant.
After the performance put on by Riley Nelson, how could ANYONE bring up the
"hair" issue, let alone notice it. Good grief, what's wrong with some
of you people??
Nice Rally by Riley, time for Heaps to spend some time on the bench. The team
just responds better to Riley and Heaps has completely lost his confidence. Its
not the end of the world for Heaps, he is still very young and will probably get
another opportunity at some point. It might do him some good and maybe its what
Heaps needs. He needs to mature, learn to become more of a leader and find a way
to regain his confidence.
@taylor28??? and bobco..You must be related to Heaps. Did you hear the crowd?
Heaps is not a leader!! If Heaps starts, there will be more than just you done
@1Infidel: Fans aren't paid to make offensive play calls, but what we do know is
that Heaps was playing better at the end of last year and one of the things that
has changed is the play calling. Not to mention switching the offensive scheme.
Everyone who is saying a player told Bronco to put Nelson in needs to go back
and listen to what Bronco said. That is not what happened. Doman talked to
Bronco and made the decision. A player (Ogletree) then told Bronco he believed
in Riley and referred to the spring scrimmage. Keep the facts straight.@CaptainFD "That third and fourth Riley Nelson Quarters were BYU
football again."Last I checked BYU is not an option team,
except for a couple of years with Doman who did have Luke Staley.Again Thank you Riley for coming in and giving a spark to the team. He took
USU, who was unprepared for him running all over the place, by surprise. It
won't work every game and Riley can't throw the ball. Lets not refer to a
quarter and a half of football here. Lets take into account all of Riley's
snaps at BYU. One quarter of a surprise attack does not make a starting QB.
Everyone will be singing a different tune when Riley plays against
TCU and is ineffective. Everyone was singing Heaps praises after
playing UTEP. How quickly it turns.
@taylor28You are done with BYU football if Nelson starts? Your
problem isn't with Heaps? Are you related to Jake or do you just need your brain
Coach Andersen pointed out the poor officiating and implied that things would be
different if calls had gone his way. He doesn't mention the non-calls of holding
on their first play and many other offensive pass interference calls and holding
call that weren't made on USU. Things even out. The outcome was determined by
plays that were made by BYU and not made by USU.
I was hoping USU would win...but they didn't... and something as good as a win
came into place. Mendenhall woke up and quit believing in the Heaps "PR
and Hype" bandwagon and benched him and brought in a "shut up and play
football" athlete. Riley is the real deal and offers so much more
offensive capabilities. Now Mendenhall needs to keep making better
decisions as a football coach and not as a "fireside" coach or he
needs to get benched too. One down and one to go in my opinion. Strange how
the team understands who the play maker and real leader is when the coaching
staff didn't. A player had to tell the coaches Riley needed to go in.Thanks Riley and those BYU team members for stepping up and making BYU
football honorable and not excuse laden again. That third and fourth
Riley Nelson Quarters were BYU football again. I wish we could bring back
Seems that BYU football has achieved the level of University of Utah
Relive the game's highlights- Ode to Riley Nelson's Hair on You Tube!! Whoever made this did a great Job!!!
I keep reading comments about the OC and the play-calling. But no one offers
what plays they would call instead...interesting. I have to agree with Bronco
on the ignorance of what goes on in fan's minds with their ignorance as to game
plan preparations.Heaps, with his now couple years at least of media
studies and coaching, keeps saying he is going to learn from each week's
experience. Again, like above, he is too cautious to mention any specifics. He
still looks afraid to get hit, and to check off on receivers long enough to make
good decisions, and throws too quickly, with poor mechanics and with pretty
awful results for one so hyped and entitled. He should have had to go
through the LaVell process of earning his time on the field after watching for a
couple of years.SJSU beat CSU yesterday at Ft Collins who I believe
beat USU on the road more convincingly, Idaho lost by one point to Virgina in
Charlottesville of the ACC, TCU got embarrassed by SMU, and New Mexico State
beat the Lobos yesterday...these coming games could be interesting and hope the
stands are filled for the home games.
@cedarpost: Okay okay, I went back and looked at the stats. If we average the
stats Beck vs. Heaps then beck was a little better. That is taking in to
account Becks whole year vs. Heaps 5 games. Beck had more patsies to pad the
stats with though. It's tough to compare that unless Jake starts and plays the
rest of the year. However, I also looked at Jake's Freshman #'s and they are
pretty close to Beck's sophomore #'s. Sorry Beck was not way better. He was
BARELY better and we are comparing Jake freshman to Beck Sophomore. Go look,
it's all on BYU's website! Jake played better last year and a
couple of things have changed since then 1)The play calling and play caller and
2) the teams effort and support for Heaps (as verified by player comments). The problem seems obvious here...
The entire team supported Riley Nelson as a leader and played much harder with
him playing QB. He made some great passes and had some amazing runs and is hard
for any team to plan for whether they have advance notice or not. (200+ QB
rating!) At the very least, they need to keep the Riley Nelson express going
until it is proven that it just won't work long term. Heaps has had more than
enough chances to prove that this year and he just does not have it nor the
support of his team mates based on what we have seen on the field.BTW, it was another player that asked Doman to put Nelson in the game to do
what he had done in spring practice and that request started the whole ball
rolling and you could see a light switch turn on with the entire team on both
ends of the field after that happened. Hopefully this train keeps on rolling,
you can always red shirt Heaps next year!
I'm so glad Doman got rid of Heaps and brought in Nelson. Now, all BYU needs to
do is get rid of Doman. Both Doman and Heaps are not good at all. This should be
Nelson's team for the rest of the season. TCU lost today (10/01/11) which means
BYU will be destroyed when the two teams play. Hawaii is a much better team than
BYU, so that will be another loss. I think BYU should just play Ole Miss and USU
all year long since those are the only wins they will get this season.
@bobco: beck was way better than heaps as a sophomore
Stang how did SUU do today against Desert Hills? Oh I forgot that is next week,
today they played the powerhouse you call ND State?
what were you thinking falslev. catching the ball on a punt is the FIRST
priority, something you learn in 3rd grade.
And I quote from the BYU Honor Code for men: Hairstyles should be clean and
neat, avoiding extreme styles or colors, and trimmed above the collar, leaving
the ear uncovered.I suspect that if Riley Nelson had a dress shirt
on, his hair would be pretty close but not quite to the collar...and his ears
are not covered. Therefore, he is not in violation of the honor code.Let's stick to the facts about the BYU honor code, the game stats, and
Well, after the Ute game tonight, hopefully the trolls will be quiet for a few
weeks......Chris b....cough, cough.
@D'Anconia,My bad bro, I thought you were one of those annoying Ute
Trolls because they always post things like "this is the last time I'll
ever post" and then they turn around and do it again but I was wrong. I
hope we're good.
Will people stop crying. USU lost please get over it. They lose all the time.
Congrats on the win cougars - you really have a knack for the miracle play! It
happens enough to show it's not just coincidence, and the team staying in the
game shows remarkable improvement.Nelson's post game comments are
great, humble, deflecting, respectful of the opponent, what you want in a leader
for the team. It'll be interesting to see how the QB position shakes up in the
coming weeks.Sad, sad day for the aggies. Someone needs to call a
cardiologist because I don't think the aggie faithful can endure any more
Wish you could edit posts... meant to say the defense WAS weak yesterday.
Absolutely agree with bobco's two posts!Heaps is not the problem, in
fact I saw a lot of progress from him yesterday. BYU has a deeper issue at this
point as bobco pointed out... the team is quitting on Heaps. This is a coaching
issue, big time. Doman is not working out as the OC, and the defense wasn't weak
yesterday. Ironically, Heaps is one of the bright spots on the team.To be fair, I was down on Heaps early too. But over the last couple games,
espcially this one, Heaps has done markedly better. If they go with Nelson, I'm
done with BYU football for this year at least.
two things- first, i love riley nelson, i think he should start the next
game. he looked a lot better against utah state than he did the couple of series
he played against utah a few weeks ago.second, byu played a better
4th quarter than utah state. the momentum of the game shifts when byu holds usu
to a field goal at the beginning of the quarter. usu has been beastly in the red
zone this year (13 td 2 fg on 15 tries). after that byu was a solid football
team except for the diluigi fumble which byu rebounded from nicely and set
themselves up to have a game winning drive.usu is a good team and
they played a good game byu was just better the final 15 minutes.
Rileys hair looks great, within the guidelines.Would you prefer Jakes 3rd
grade summer buzz cut?Back off you fanatic goofs. You make us all look
nuts. The Pres. Wilkinson years are not coming back. As Bruce R.
McKonkie once said, "The Church has no need for the fanatic".As for some spicey language now and again. Try peeking into the tens of
thousands of BYU fans households during the last month of Jake Heaps'
ineffective leadership. And then, he who is without sin, caste the first stone.
Were any of you sitting on the first 10 rows, east side, during the
Detmer years? Or any year for that matter. Roger French, Dick felt anyone? When you have all perfected yourselves, then maybe you can pop off,
until then, look in your own mirror and hold your fire.Good Grief!
My question is why did it take 3 games to understand you needed a quarterback
with heart. I like what I saw in Nelson and his drive to make things happen.
Heaps would never run like he wanted it. He just ddi not have the heart for the
game as of yet. I am still suspect of the coaching staff. However, they did
start to turn things around in the 3rd Qtr last night. Great game to watch.
Sitting here laughing at all the comments of visceral hate from all 3 Utah
teams. You need to come down to the SEC and get a little class and respect.
the only team I dislike any given Saturday is whoever is playing GA. Otherwise I
love sitting and watching and rooting for all the other SEC teams playing. Love
the BYU/USU game for the nailbiting game it was. And look forward to cheering
to Utes tonight.
Riley Nelson's motivating heart is a good reason why his hair should not be cut.
Something to learn from.
Bluecoug89 wrote to me:"I've never heard of you before. Whether
you post or not it makes no difference."Wow! I feel so
insignificant. Thanks. I don't comment a lot but I like college football and
follow Utah, BYU, and USU. Since there are many BYU fans here who complain about
Utah fans commenting on BYU articles (is it their favorite stat?), I was just
stating why I was commenting on this article and that this would be the last
article that I will appear on.jarka-rus wrote:"Have
you seen Wynnie's hair lately? talk about needing a haircut, he looks like
goldilocks."Two thing about that. There is no rule at Utah
about grooming and he is growing his hair to honor his late grandmother, who
died of cancer earlier this year. He is donating it to "Locks of Love"
To the Ute trolls- thank you for taking the time out of your busy Friday nights
to watch the team you hate so much and add a few more television sets to the
final ESPN numbers. To USU, keep your heads up, you have a great team
and Coach Anderson is doing amazing things up in Logan, good luck on the rest of
your season, I hope you guys make a bowl game this year.It was a fun
game to watch, our stands were shaking big time in the north end zone. Lots of things to work out still, but BYU just needs to take it one game
at a time.And stop judging Riley's hair and JJ's language (who isn't
even LDS), you sound very self-righteous and hypocritical, I certainly was no
angel at that age either.Great win Cougs!p.s., I agree
on the whole stupid rushing the field thing, but whatever, I probably would have
rushed it too when I was younger.
257 comments on BYU vs. WAC team in 14 hours. What are the odds in
getting 80 posts on Utah in the same time.More BYU haters than Utah
fans?I just hope Utah gets a win against a BCS team...
I am interested to see what everyone so high on Riley for this one game will be
saying when teams plan for him (actually one team at this point TCU) and he is
ineffective throwing lame ducks around the field. BYU was never winning the NC.
Heaps needs to still have the time to develop, especially now going into the
softer part of the schedule where he can gain confidence and have the best
chance to figure this thing out. If you have actually watched him play you know
he is capable. He was making it happen last year near the end. Yes the
competition was bad, but he is learning. He played well against Utah last year.
Don't play Riley Nelson. Riley helped get the win last night, but he could be
what puts BYU in a rut for a couple of years. Stick with Heaps! I'd rather
take the chance of getting heaps to his potential than having identity issues
playing an option QB who can't throw well.
Friday night with the rest of the High Schools... perfect for these two.
It's amazing how sports reveal the true character of people. Remember the words
of Garth Vader--"let the hatred flow through your veins and come to the
dark side". It's getting dangerous going to opposing teams home field. I
like football, and it's an entertaining event, but its just a game. An escape
from daily routine and stress.
Does anyone else think that Colin Kaepernick left the 49ers, changed his name to
Chuckie Keeton (sounds so made-up) and enrolled at Utah State as a freshman? I
mean, they look identical, they play identical (except Kaepernick usually won
the close ones), and when was the last time you ever saw both of them in the
same room? Exactly.
Now that Nelson is the starter, where is Heaps transferring to?
Riley Nelson is like Moses leading the disgruntled children of Israel (offense)
out of bondage (Jake Heaps' lack of performance).
Went back and re-watched this game. BYU is in a bad situation. I saw some bad
throws and decisions by Heaps, but I saw some dropped passes also. The reason
that the change to Riley worked was b/c USU had not planned for him and couldn't
adjust. I certainly don't think Riley is the answer here. I give him all the
credit in the world for what he did. Fans need to look at a bigger picture
here, though. It is really telling listening to some of the players speak of
rallying around Riley and playing harder when he came into the game. This says
that there are pride issues on this team and they are not giving Jake the
support he needs. Yes, he has made some mistakes, but he is a sophomore. Do we
remember John Beck at that point? Kind of ugly! I think I really lost respect
for Jacobsen and Ogletree with their telling comments after the game. Clearly
these players have an issue with Heaps beyond his play. They basically said they
weren't playing hard until Riley came into the game. Not a great sign.
It is a bit surprising to see a few Cougar fans trash talking with Ute fans. Ute
fans can give you 54 reason why that is not a good idea.Still,
Nelson did a great job for BYU. However, I would at some time like to see Heaps
develop into a good QB - I hope it still happens.
Funny how the play calling was fine with Riley in the game. Folks, Dorman is not
the problem, Heaps was the poblem ,Nelson is the answer.
yeah Di Luigi you should take some lessons from Oregon, the Buckeyes or Thug U.
Maybe give L. Blount or M. Clarrett a call for some advice, how utterly
devastating to BYU that you said a couple of bad words in an emotional win in
the last second.
"It just so happens that this is one of those rare games when the winning
team had absolutely no business taking the victory."Tomahawk
Red | 12:06 a.m. Oct. 1, 2011 Hey Redhead: Kinda like the BYU/utah
game last year, huh??
You have to feel bad for Utah State. If the Aggies could put people away, they
would be 4-0 instead of 1-3. Pretty exciting game. I'd say if your
QB gets two TD drives in the final quarter (more than doubling the offensive
output up to that point), including a 96 yard drive in 2.5 minutes, you've
earned the starting spot. Nelson is more similar to Doman, and perhaps that will
be the right combo. Perhaps.Having said that, I had predicted a
27-17 win for BYU. The fact that this game was that close, took a last second TD
to win, and was at home, does not change my opinion that overall, this BYU team
is OK, but not great. Even playing winless Oregon State or a Hawaii team that
lost to UNLV does not appear to be guarenteed victories, much less TCU.Still, it's provided some quality entertainment, provide the games are close
and not 44 point defeats.Good luck BYU and USU the rest of the way.
Worldwide exposure. Espn keeps showing the BYU player dropping the f bomb over
and over. I realize that is common language in football but BYU is under a
microscope. Way to expose.
Anyone who suggests that Heaps starts next week (and then let Riley come in if
it's not working out) is NUTS.Riley Nelson earned the starting spot
last night, PERIOD. I say, let Nelson start, and then if (and a big if) it
doesn't work out, then let Lark try a few snaps.Heaps is #3 on my
@Super Trooper:I was thinking the same thing. For better or worse
(usually it's worse) the BYU football teams represent the LDS religion. You are
not going to win the hearts and minds of people by cussing up a storm, or doing
the double arm flex after you tackled Turbin for a twenty-yard gain, or standing
over a player trash-talking. The helmet-to-helmet on Christopher a couple of
weeks ago wasn't classy either--no ejection--or penalty for that matter.BYU fans, I want you to watch how Patterson and TCU comport themselves
when you play them. You will see a coach that doesn't put up with the sideshow
antics and a team that is classy. That being said, I will come to the
defense of Riley Nelson (never thought I would say that). You are upset about
his haircut? Please give the kid a break. What happened about giving others
the benefit of the doubt? Plus from all artists' renditions that I have seen, I
don't think the Savior sported a high and tight. Thanks for a laugh.
USU needs a psychologist stat! Cheers everybody. Have a great weekend!
So many people are saying that Utah State should have won, but they didn't.
Don't get me wrong, Utah State is a great team who plays quality ball but this
game wasn't decided by another team's mistakes. There was only one turnover the
entire game and that was DiLuigi's fumble. This game was decided by raw, good
football played by both teams. I agree, Utah State was winning basically the
whole game but for a team to be able to come out like that, play hard and with
heart like they did, and win is special.
Little old ladies from Provo to Saint George want Sampson (Riley) to cut his
There's more disgruntled ute fans than Aggies. This validates Max Hall. Anderson
is a good coach and it won't be long till the fourth quarter goes his way.
@ wardu Wasn't to hard considering the High school game got two places. I
imagine we'll see BYU on the Sports center Top Ten because without the NBA this
fall BYU's games on Friday Nights are about the only game in town. So much
the better for all of the Utah teams as I am sure Gary Anderson and his coaching
staff are going to show that these losses are an indication about how solid the
Utah State Program is now. I felt bad for the Aggie in the loss but remain
very proud of their spirit and efforts.
Can you hear the ute fans whining. Cougs play cream puffs and we the tough
teams of the pac-12. Than they'll brag about not playing Stanford or Oregon and
deserving the Rose Bowl. Chris B is the cougar good luck charm.
It definitely was an exciting game last night. You gotta feel bad for the Aggies
with the 3 tough losses they've had this year but give BYU credit for fighting
to the end. Both teams played hard and have good teams. I just don't understand
why everyone has to find fault in everything BYU does. Give both team's player
credit for their hard work on the field. I love the Aggies but you gotta give
BYU some credit pulling off that come back win. I hope the Aggies can pull it
together and learn how to win the close games and get to a bowl game. I also
think Robert Turbin is a stud and will be playing at the next level. Bronco
mentioned after the game that Turbin ran him down in the tunnel to congratulate
him on the victory. Turbin is a class act.
Another Favorite Moment:byu player hits himself on the bare head
with his helmet TWICE and then.....Drops the "F" bomb on
national tv.Probably won't make the fireside video!!!
Hey Jarkarus, two things:1. that "magic happens" thing has
ran its course, even Collie said he was sick of being asked about it.2. At the U, we aren't judgmental about silly things like how long someones
hair is, or if they have facial hair. I mean, how stupid is that anyway? If you
like your hair short, wear it that way, if not, don't be judgmental about the
way a young man decides for himself how to groom. Ridiculous.
dden,Sure you were pulling for nelson last year. If that's true, you
were the only one who wanted riley over st. jake. afterall, heaps-of-fun was
going to be the firt two time heisman winner since Archie Griffin, at lest
that's the hype emanating from provo last year. Now, everyone's
jumping off the st. jake bandwagon and piling nelson's. Typical
Doman is very weak as a coach and as an OC..... It's like he doesn't take into
account the strength of his players when he maps out formations and offensive
plays..... If Nelson is QB he needs to install the option, the picks with the
receivers, and some use of the old shovel passes on the option......If Heaps is
the QB he needs to focus on getting the ball into the hands of his Receivers
over the middle and use the screen alot more...Anyway that's my two
I love how people say that the team that lost should have won. In that case, I'm
just going to go out on a limb and say that BYU should have beat Utah. It's the
same thing, right? When people say that it's just their lame excuse as to why
the team they wanted to win lost and the team they hate won (yes U fans, that is
you). The team that won, deserved to win. If Utah State won, they would have
deserved to win but BYU won and they deserved to win. How is it possible that
the "worst team" was able to go 96 yards in 2 minutes against the
"best team"? If the "best team" was really the "best
team" they would have and should have stopped us. I don't know what's going
to happen in the game tonight, but I hope Utah wins (I'm not like the rest of
you U fans who have no lives) but if you lose I wonder how many people are going
to come on saying "we should have won". Just an observation.
It's hard for me to understand how Heaps was rated so high coming out of HS.....
I mean he was suppose to be among the best that the University has ever had and
he's not even close to acceptable.... I like his attitude, but he has a very
difficult time matching his "play" with his "talk".... I
think that some of it is that he was over-rated, some of it is because he has a
Rookie OC, and some of it is because he doesn't get enough time with a Good
Position Coach (which I think is also the Rookie OC)..... I think that if some
of this stuff happened he would be better but he still has some basic
Athleticism issues.... He's slow, doesn't have great vision, is afraid of taking
hits, and has a slow release. Perhaps if he would have Red Shirted a year and
worked on his strength, quickness and his release he could come back and have
two fabulous years.... But right now he's a yawner.
Not a good team, but very lucky team. Tough luck for the Aggies, especially when
you out played them the whole game.Nelson is the better quarterback
of the two. The Y's defense is certainly suspect to the run.
Really,No doubt, he had a great 96 yard drive. And that 50(?) yard
bomb with McKay sprinting to catch it was AMAZING!! Best play of the year by
far. And the most fun game to watch for sure. Let's see what next week brings.
Start Heaps, keep him on a short leash, and bring Riley in after 1 quarter if
Heaps is not doing the job. Big games coming up with a struggling Oregon State
on the road and a TCU team that will be looking to put a hard licking on us. We
don't need a QB controversy. If Jake doesn't get it done next week and Riley
does, I think all Cougar fans unite behind Riley.Co Cougs
Ute fans two things:"1. Magic Happens!2. Have you
seen Wynnie's hair lately? talk about needing a haircut, he looks like
The BYU team definitely showed everyone who the REAL leader of the team is!!
When Riley came out the team changed? Why don't the players show that intensity
when Heaps? The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then
coming back. That's real glory. That's the essence of it. Vince Lombardi
@ D'Anconia,You say that you will never post on our articles again
this year. Did anyone notice that he has ever posted in the first place? I've
never heard of you before. Whether you post or not it makes no difference.
Well, after a few hours sleep I still believe that the Cougars were the better
team last night, Ute partisan comments about USU domination notwithstanding. I
guess Utah "dominated USC" when they lost in LA as well. Too funny!!
I think it's humorous that so many Ute fans watched the game.
Good thing it was on ESPN. I find it interesting that the Utah
Institute has told their students "Go to the football game and we'll record
Priesthood Meeting," rather than "Go to Priesthood Meeting and we'll
record the Football Game." It kinda makes one wonder what they'll say when
Utah has to play on Sunday in the PAC 12. But that's the price to be in a
secular conference, one that hates religion to the max. Utah fits their mold,
too, according to the PAC 12. I'm not surprised.Go Huskies!!
Sports nutzzMany props for you getting on the board after a loss like
that. Aggies need to learn to finish games and they might salvage this season.
My hats off to Riley for mounting a great comeback. Heaps needs to sit and learn
for a while. If Bronco starts him next week there needs to be some serious
thought on if he stays HC at BYU or gets moved to D Coordinator.
I think it's funny how people who hate BYU give up their Friday nights to watch
BYU lose. . . and then win. That must make them so mad to know that they just
watched the team they hate win. By the way, everyone's saying that BYU fans are
stupid for storming the field. Come on U fans, we know we aren't as good as you
guys this year, we accept it, but can't you let us have some fun? I mean, are
you guys that lame and heartless that you can't let fans be excited for their
team? Talk about being self-righteous.
If pushing the ball 96 yards across the field to score a touchdown is what you
call luck, I will take it. Yes, catching the deflected pass to score could be
considered luck, but the receiver was watching the ball and adjusted to make the
catch. If he hadn't caught the ball, please don't tell me that Riley would not
have used that final eleven seconds to find the end zone. He had determination,
and I don't doubt that he would have made it in if he had to do it one more
Aggie Fan here. I have read everyone of these posts. It has taken me until this
morning to even want to talk about the game.Observations on the
comments. Mostly classy comments by BYU fans. Mostly classy comments by USU
fans.Observations on the game:The ejection shocked me,
but the back-up safety played as well as anyone else in the secondary (that's
not saying much). The changing of QBs was an excellent move. Aggies
were on their heals the rest of the game.Keeton is solid. The Aggies can run the ball. Three very good running backs, but this also is a
reflection on the offensive line.Keeton is solid. Rarely makes a bad
decision. The Aggies need to keep playing the last 2 minutes like
they have player the first 58 minutes.A loss to an opponent, who to
the Aggies is a big rival, can have a lasting effect for the rest of the season.
How will the Aggies respond? The Aggies can still make it to a bowl game. I hope
they keep their heads up after a loss that can be described as devastating.
Good win for the Cougars last night. It really is too bad that someone had to
lose. Riley is the man of the hour. I think last night showed the Cougar
coaching staff that Nelson needs to be in the game as he has a passion for the
game that Heaps just doesn't have. I know Heaps put up some amazing stats in
high school, but this is not high school. If the coaching staff used the
"come to BYU and you'll start" in their recruiting of Heaps, then this
might be a good time to re-evalute and let him know they were just kidding.
I have a couple kids going to Utah State - so I was clearly hoping the Aggies
could pull this of.I am a Utah Fan (big time) - but, I have to admit
I really enjoyed watching Riley Nelson play football. Gritty, hard working,
seemed more about team than about himself...very good job!Nice win
Cougs...nice to see you finish a game hard. I hope you have a new QB.
First of all I'm a big Jake Heaps fan - he has a big arm and has proven himself
last year as a potential great QB HOWEVER something is wrong with Jake this
year. I don't know if it is Doman's offense or what but Jake isn't Jake anymore.
He can't connect on easy throws and he panics. The ball is too high or too hard
consistently. BYU won last night because of Nelson and I admit that. Reily did
the job. He surprisingly made accurate throws and his running totally messed
Utah State up. He deserves total credit for the win. Nelson isn't going to lead
BYU anywhere this year but last night he was a great back up QB!! If BYU is
going to do anything this year Heaps has got to fix himself ... and soon!! Also Utah State out played BYU and really deserved the win ..just like
against Auburn. I feel bad for Gary Andersen because USU should be 4-0 right now
on the season.
I find it quite hilarious that for a school which prides itself on its good
behavior, etc., BYU's DiLuigi dropped the "F Bomb" on the sidelines on
national TV. ESPN showed the outburst (when he hit himself with his helmet then
started to walk off) several times, and even in slow motion. Just goes to show
that even at BYU no one is perfect. About the game though...great
game! Though the Aggies lost, it was a great game to watch. Go Aggies!!!
And why aren't we using the TE's more? Marcus is a stud and he will catch
almost anything thrown at him. Doman, use the TE's more. That is what made BYU
so awesome in the past. TE up the middle for 8 yards is there a lot!
" I'm not sure the better team won tonight. "
Hair? So.... if someone has longer hair than you see fit, he has no integrity?
Do you know Riley to judge his integrity? Or are you judging him by his looks?
Veritas Aequitas,Thank you for pointing something everyone should
see. The players are playing differently for Riley, then for Jake. Here is a
quote from McKay "In the second half, we changed as a team. We played with
more heart," If you are all playing with a half heart, then your QB does
not have your support and you are BOUND TO LOSE. Yes, I am a Jake
fan. Yes I am NOT a Riley fan. Yes I am glad that Jake got benched to put a fire
in him he needs. But let's not anoint Riley the started yet. Lets not forget, he
had some really bad throws as well as Jake, and if not for a lucky tip to a
receiver in the end zone, we have one less touchdown and we lose.Point is hopefully Jake and the rest of the team learn from this, and play
with "more heart" no matter who is the QB.Why not give
Lark a shot as well?Just my 2 cents worth.
Get a haircut Riley Nelson. How come I notice that first when he takes his
helmet off and no coach, professor, teammate, or student is able to see the same
thing and remind him of the dress and grooming standards? I'm not impressed with
There's always the third brother, Chase, who is just as talented as Riley and
Way to go Cougs. Gutsy call by Doman to replace Heaps. There was no doubt that
Nelson's presence on the field was the difference maker in this game. It was
reflected in the way the offense rallied to make the winning scores. Plus, you
could see the defense take on a greater sense of urgency to help the offense.
Let's hope this was the spark that's been needed to keep us rolling. Rise &
Don't be sad Coach from USU, Riley's little brother committed to you guys this
week. Then again so did Riley, sorry. He just threw a bunch of TD's last night
too, he's a stud.
The officiating crew was from the WAC, not the Pac-12. Surprisingly, most calls
seemed to go BYU's way - except the facemask call against Sorensen when it was
he that was taken down to the ground by his facemask by the USU runner. That
extended a drive that ended in a touchdown.
When they put in Riley Nelson I knew there would be a WIN!! The players
respect him and he is incredibly gifted physically and mentally in the game!!
While he was leading BYU to a win, his brother, DJ, was doing the same in Logan
defeating Sky View 61 - 7. 7-0 for the year. Too bad he isn't following his
brother to BYU.

Whats wrong ute fans, you have nothing better to do on a Friday night than to
watch BYU games? Then run to your little room in your mothers basement and sit
on your computer and hate on everything!I will not be watching the Utah
game today because I dont care about them. I wont be commenting on their boards
because I dont care about them. Ute fans are unbelievable and pathetic!Go
Great job Riley! Way to seize the moment and capitalize!
The beauty of a QB with Riley's skill set, is that he has "Options" on
every play.Doman can call the play, but Riley has more than one
choice as to how he executes the given play. This may save the
season, as we all apparently have to endure Doman's and Bronco's state of
perpetual learning curve.Jake is given the play, and if it breaks
down, he does not have the skill set to implement plan B, C, D, E, or f as Riley
does. We'll all see if Bronco has come out of his cloud and will now
wake up and do the right thing. He's still 3 weeks late on making a
With all due respect to Jake Heaps, when Jake is running the offense it is like
they are going up hill to get to the End Zone. With Riley Nelson it is like the
team is moving down hill to get to the End Zone Jake needs some more time for
college football prime time. Riley Nelson has that fighting drive to win that
makes Offense fun to watch.
@TommyBoyRedYou lost us at..... "Hello, I'm a Ute
Fan".There is a Big World out there, Tommy Boy, go get it. Don't look back, and eventually, that long BYU shadow hanging over you will
dissipate, if you let it be so.
Nothing like the afterglow of victory and seeing the dust cloud of trolls
kicking the dirt in frustration and anguish over a BYU victory. If
the Utes lose today it will be the perfect storm.Thank you Riley! It
was great to see you play last night.
Wow, Tomahawk Red! 3 consecutive comments about your rival. Considering how
familiar you are with the game, I'm sure that BYU and ESPN are grateful for your
viewership. You must have been watching because, although Utah
State's running game was fantastic (as it has been against every team they've
faced), BYU was by no means "dominated." How do you
"dominate" a team that outgains you (BYU-451, USU-406)?Don't late your evident hatred of a team blind you to the point of sounding
ridiculous. You sound silly when you claim that the team with the more
productive offense in both points and yards gained had "absolutely no
business taking the victory."
Fans rushed the field because of how we won, not just that we won. This was the
most exciting BYU finish since Jim McMahon and the win over SMU in the Miracle
Bowl. If I was at the game, I would have rushed the field; and it's been a long
time since I was student at BYU.I was a little disappointed in
Bronco's stoic disposition. Come on, show some passion and some excitement.
You're making the somber Lavelle Edwards look like a cheerleader. There is no QB controversy. Nelson is the new starting QB. He's a scrappy
player, and gets the job done. He will start the rest of the year. Heaps
should redshirt next year, and the controversy will be in 2013 when redshirt
Freshman Hill and redshirt Junior Heaps are vying for the job. Give
Heaps a year and a half to really learn the college game, and I think he'll
still be a very good QB his last two years.2011 to 2012 - Nelson2013 to 2014 - Heaps2015 to 2016 - Hill2017 to 2018 - Mangum
We've said for 3 weeks now, that Jake is a Little Boy in a Mans World.Riley Nelson is first and foremost a "Football-Player". Think of the Great BYU QB's, "Football-Players" all. From
Carter to Hall.They were all "Tough"...Not Soft!They
all paid their dues. They were not annointed and handed the job, too
early.Nelson is the Man. He's paid his dues, been away from the game
(mission) and has grown up. He's 23 years old. Jake is just not ready for the
Mantle yet.As of now, Jake does not seem to be a "Gritty
Football Player". He avoids contact. Sure, he has the
great arm and all, but watch him when it comes time to recover a fumble, make a
tackle to avoid a pick-6, check his receivers, his lack of touch, or run in the
open field (as he slides 7 yards before the defense gets near him). It' as if he's too concerned with protecting himself for the NFL. He has
a sense of entitlement.Question for Doman and Bronco. What
took you so long? Texas didn't wait 4 games to switch their QB's.Anything short of Riley starting WillNotStand!
Wow, hilarious! Haven't read all comments, but it appears that about 90% are
ute fans! Thanks for caring! Oh, and sorry about the outcome, utes. You guys
appeared to be having a SO much fun. Oh well, there's still time to go on over
to Vai's article and display some more of your righteous indignation. I'll be
interested to see your comments in the Denver Post during the CU/WSU game today.
After all, they ARE your new rivals, right?
As others have said, "Thanks u fans for your continued support". I
just love it! ! ! As long as we have all these u fans watching BYU play on ESPN
the ratings will continue to be "thru the roof". That's why ESPN made
the deal in the first place. It is all about how many people watch that
channel.BYU fans rush the field because they love their team. The u
fans are much like their bball players, they just run away. Note when the u is
behind late in the forth quarter what happens with their fan base.....empty
seats! The same is true with the bball fans. Truly, all u fans know and feel
that they are the younger brothers (sister's) of BYU.P.S. Keep being
jealous of our NC, Heisman winner, and all the other awards we have that you
Tomahawk Red mumbled: "Utah State did dominate BYU tonight."Uh, you may want to take a peek at the stats of the game before you make a
statement like that.
@tomahawk redGood lord you are bitter over this. How satisfying it
will make my day knowing you are in anguish :)LOL!
Fun game to watch. I love Nelson's heart and drive. The right call
was made, the ejection was too much though.Aggies have a group of
great runners. Keaton will improve as he gets more experience. I
hope the Aggies can keep their heads up, 3 tough losses but they have a good
This is not a pile on or anything, more of an idea. Sometimes, when you are a
QB in high school, and you had little adversity, because the team you have is
loaded the whole time. Maybe the lack of losing in the early years, or the lack
of having to fight a tight game, messes with your mind, that maybe a couple more
years of maturity makes a difference. I think the biggest mistake he did was
hold the big press conference when he signed and hyped himself up. Hasn't been
able to live up to it yet. To me he isn't anything more than a hyped Olsen kid
that left for UCLA, or the Covey QB who didn't live up to potential either.
Maybe the next year or two. He is still slow and mechanical right now. He is
playing not to lose, rather than playing to win. He is missing his open people,
keying on the big plays, but ignoring the short plays that can add big yardage.
There also is no passion from him yet, because right now the game is in his
head, not his heart yet. Maybe it comes with time.
The Logan boy wins the game against the hometown Aggies - great story line but
bottom line is Nelson gave an inspiring performance - can't deny that if either
a BYU or USU fan. I commend the USU program for their improvement. A 1 and 3
record does not reflect at all the level of football USU is playing. Keep your
heads up USU, you could have, should be 4 and 0 now but don't look back and go
out and win the next 7 games, the WAC and a bowl game - this is easily within
your reach. As a BYU fan I thank the Aggies for a well fought game and realize
that sometime it is better to be lucky than good - we were very lucky last
WOW1 It's so great to see all of the anti BYU fans suffering.
When Riley is forced to cut his hair for the honor code will he lose his magic
like Samson did? If teams are prepared for him to run it's not too hard to stop
him. He is not as good a passer as Heaps but he sure has heart.
@Tomahawk Red You're comments are a combination of legitimate points
seated alongside ridiculous criticisms. 1. You and many others wish
BYU was 0-5, but they're not. Sorry to say, they're 3-2 no matter how much
people pout about it or say "...the winning team had absolutely no business
taking the victory."2. Each and every week, the trollers have
predicted a definite loss for BYU. I've read comments predicting easy wins by
Ole' Miss, Texas, Utah, etc. So far, these predictors have been right 2 out of 5
times.3. I agree BYU has not shown much fire yet and they should not
look past teams like San Jose State. But Riley Nelson's performance gives BYU
hope for a strong second half of the season.
Good game by the Cougars tonight. Nelson brought some much needed life into the
offense. Good to see. The recievers had some touch on the ball with Nelson
calling signals and Hoffman is turning himself into a very good reciever. Great
one handed grab on the sidelines. Utah State played a very good game tonight as
well. Congrats to them. For fans of the team up north. Does your
team even play tomorrow? This BYU fan does not care who you play, where or when
unless it is against my Cougar team. I would not look at your schedule and do
not care about the score either. Oh, and I would not comment on your articles
either, because I won't read them. Go Cougars.
Anderson, When will you learn. Three games taking a lead into the final five
mintues. 3 times dropping into prevent D. three times your last offensive
possesions lack any creativity. Three losses. Quit playing not to
lose. Could be 4-0 and ranked right now.
A couple observations:There are more than just a couple Ute fans
obsessed with BYU football.BYU fans stay till the end of the third
quarter, unless the game is in doubt (like Dodger Fans). Traffic out of LES is a
bear.Only the students jumped on the field. Those of us who have
been there before, don't need that rush.USU is building a solid
team, and deserves props.BYU got lucky, but luck is part of sports,
and doesn't hurt a struggling team.Jake will start next week, but
will be replaced sooner if he doesn't get his act together.Utah
needs a BCS Win.BYU and USU are the only two schools whose athletes
have won national awards.Aggies fans are classy. The meek
may inherit the earth, but they will not get their cars out of stadium parking
for days.I saw no beer thrown, nor drunks at the game tonight, so if
that ever comes up down the road...If the players will not play as
hard for Heaps as the do for Riley, the players need to bench themselves. The flag was deserved, the ejection? Who gets ejected?Good
luck Utes tomorrow.
Coach Andersen said about BYU that "tonight they wre the better football
team."BYU haters might want to read that again.Where USU
made a bone-head decision was when they tried the fake field goal on 4th down.
That was really dumb. And it cost them dearly.USU did not
"dominate" BYU tonight. And they didn't "win" tonight
either. The game, like the score, was fairly close and the lead changed sides a
couple of times. I attribute those comments to Ute fans who are
referring the game that Utah dominated the Y this year. And I congratulate them
on the victory. But that is old news now, and doesn't affect the BYU/USU game
at all. In fact, it doesn't do anything for Utah except count towards their
record to be eligible to go to a bowl. They might end up in Vegas. Maybe. (I
don't believe anyone else is going to give them the ball 7 times during the
game.) So the smart people have gotten past that for the time being, people
like Whittingham, whose example ought to be followed.
When there were 3 minutes left in the game, I turned to some friends that sit
behind me and said "Don't worry. This Aggie team has learned how to lose.
If this game can be salvaged, it's going to happen. They fold really
well." Then we watched it happen. Of course Aggies say the
BYU team "got lucky." Are you sure it wasn't that the USU team got
"unlucky?" Or did they just live up to the tradition they have
established for themselves? That Auburn loss, precipitated when the
USU players saw the on-side kick as an U.F.O. and just gasp at it while Auburn
hauled it in right out of the air, set the stage for USU. And their Coach said
he wouldn't change a play call that failed to work against CSU that lost the
game. That means he'd be willing to lose again and feel good about it. USU will end up about .500 and Coach Anderson will keep his job and
everyone will gush about his great team....at .500. Amazing isn't it?
To all those whop say the weaker team won, I ask: How did the stronger team let
the weaker team have a 96-yard scoring drive with less than 2 minutes remaining?
BYU started the 2nd half with a 0-yard pass completion, a 1-yard run, and
failing to convert on 3rd and 9 and had to punt. USU got numerous 3rd down
conversions, particularly on one of their scoring drives. That being said, USU
knows how TO LOSE during the last 3 minutes of a game. They've done it 3 times
now. Maybe they ought to play some defense when the game is on the line. USU
is MEDIOCRE...that is USU football. 1 - 3, they need to win 3 of the next 4 to
hit .500. That isn't a "good team" by any standard except Yewties way
of looking at things. Speaking of the Utes, they have awfully big mouths for
not having a PAC 12 win yet, and maybe that streak will continue when they play
Washington. Maybe not. Sure had a lot of Utes watching a game
between an "independent" and a mid-major (WAC) team. Hypocites they
Tomahawk, it makes me happy you are bitter about all things Byu. I love knowing
it bothers you so. Thanks. Enjoy conference tomorrow.
I love that Utah fans are bitter about this game. A 54 to to 10 beatdown isn't
enough? I am happy you are sad.
I agree with Idaho Cougar - split time next week between Nelson and Lark and let
the on-the-field competition/results dictate the rest of the season.Heaps came on board (thanks to many Cougar fans) thinking he was entitled, and
yup, frosh season he is starting a handful of games in....The way he
stands on the sidelines alone, rehearsing his media moments, vs talking with his
receivers, line, center, backs? I think he has an entitled attitude, and it
shows with his teammates and their intensity when he is on the field. Now compare that to when Nelson is on the field. I don't think Sarkisian is
still interesed, but maybe he could follow Massoli....Heaps may have
the physical tools, but he is missing something upstairs and inside. Benching
him for at least a game, or two, won't hurt the Cougars the next couple of
weeks, and may be the medicine Heaps needs to help him get real, or get lost.

Stop hating. Part of sports is fluke luck. And whether the
"kitties" are 0-5, or 3-2 is not the issue. They are 3-2, with a win
over a BCS team, something that the Red Tomahawks are still waiting to do. No
matter how bad you hate BYU, they post W's and L's, not scores.Good
luck tomorrow Utes.
Great heartstopper of a game. Got to hand it to the Aggies on the field, on the
sidelines and in the stands. They played their hearts out, gave it their all,
and stayed classy the whole game. Unlike another in-state team's players,
coaches and fans. Props to a well-coached program.

Very happy for Riley, what a great night for him and one he will always
remember. You goobers griping about his hair make me wish I could go back in
time to 1980 so I could fall in love with a different college football team, one
with less dorks in the fan base. As for USU, they mean nothing to me
personally. Didn't grow up in Utah and no offense but I just don't care about
Utah State. Nevertheless, I feel horrible for those guys. I am on the Utah State
bandwagon for the rest of the year, and I wish them the best. Coach Anderson has
them pointed in the right direction and they seem like a team full of really
good guys. Pretty soon they will learn to seal the deal in games like the ones
they've been losing. Go Cougars!Go Aggies!
54-10 Cougs and 7 out of the last 10. The tide has turned for old BYU. The Utes
have sailed off and left the lowly Ags to defend the Aggie Blue. Tonight the
cougs won. The hottest instate rivalry is here to stay. Should be fun watching
this game every year. It will go down to the wire like most of the other WAC
games the cougs will play.
Duckhunter | 11:38 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Highland, UTLooks like
alot of utah "fans" watched the game tonight.-------------Surprised to see you here.I was wondering
if you'd 'duck' out of town like you did after the Utah laugher. Too embarrassed
by your mouth writing checks that BYU can't get close to cashing. But
I respect you for having the guts to show up tonight... seeing how your team was
mopped all night long by another, yet less respected, Utah team.Do
you really feel good about your team right now? I said after the game that I
can't possibly see how any Y fan could be satisfied with that win... knowing
that Utah State was unquestionably the one that deserved it.I'm
telling you guys... you're 3-2 but you should be 0-5. And if they were 0-5, I
know dang well you wouldn't be feeling so good about BYU.Enjoy the
win... but you should recognize that your team is still playing pretty dang bad.
People wonder what would have happened if Nelson stayed at Utah State. It is an
interesting question. But tonight Keeton was the best QB on the field. This
kid is good. As an earlier post said, I hope they can keep him upright, keep him
motivated, keep him from transferring. He does what it takes to win and somehow
the Aggies find a way to blow it.
Riley Nelson looks kinda like Tom Brady of the NFL Patriots, especially the look
in his eyes on the 96 yard drive. Jake Heeps hasn't been havin any fun,
football must be fun or why play it? I don't care who the other team was, this
was a fun, inspiring win for the Cougs. It really cheered me up.
Tommyhawk said "It just so happens that this is one of those rare games
when the winning team had absolutely no business taking the victory." Like that rare game that U won against BYU last season?karma
Not to burst anybody's bubble, but we have to remember how Nelson looked last
year. Not great. He won't be the savior. Don't let victories against future
second rate opponents fool you. Utah State is one of the better teams BYU will
face in the next several weeks. Everything will seem better but then TCU, and
probably Hawaii, bring BYU back down to earth. I would say the game with Idaho
is a toss-up, they're not horrible, probably similar to Utah State in quality.
BYU did not win by pure luck. They were the better team cause they've got the
more experienced players. So far this has been a great weekend. Mountain Crest
high wins, USU losses, and if SUU wins tomorrow I will be jumping for joy. Keep
up the good work USU. Your showing Logan something. That you can't win big
games and you are the same team you've always been.
Why did it take this many games and 3 quarters to FINALLY realize how bad Hypes
is? Nelson saved the game. However, Mr. Keeton is solid. Heisman
within 2 years and if the Aggies program somehow gets relevant within that
time. But seriously, storming the field for a WAC team? One that
hasn't won on Cougar turf since 78? Is it necessary? BYU must be bad this
Tommy, dominating includes winning the game, kind of like U did two weeks ago.
All Utah St. did was lose a game, like U did against USC. Good luck getting that
first conference win. Luck is not a bad thing, when it makes the haters even
BYU made the top 10 plays on ESPN, 4, 2 and 1. Let the hating continue.
Tommyhawk - U are a bitter little loser, that is all.
Great game to be at tonight if you were a cougar fan. It was fun watching the
kids take the field after the game, let them have some fun. It has been fun to
read all the haters trying to turn the win into a loss somehow. Too bad for the
haters. Good luck to Utah tomorrow. Win or lose will the game summary even get
50 comments? Most likely not. Well maybe if U lose.
Dear Ute fans,It is clear by your many, many comments that you all
enjoyed watching BYU and USU play tonight on ESPN. On behalf of both teams,
thank you for drastically increasing our ratings. If you stopped watching, they
would have surely been cut in half. The fact that your comments outnumber those
of fans from BOTH schools about 5 to 1 says it all.

Striker | 10:11 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Omaha, NEBYU is 3-2, with
the only real threats left being TCU and Hawai'i.-------------You're joking... right?Week 1: Couldn't find the end zone,

threaten... and that will continue. You need to be concerned about
every last team remaining on your schedule. When you play like a FCS
team, you can't cop BCS-caliber attitude. So worry about San Jose State next
week. Plenty there to keep your hands full.
Cougars - Wise Older Brothers | 10:11 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Anaheim, CAMidMajor4everThere's nothing more pathetic than a bitter, jealous
little brother whining about his older brother engineering a 96-yard scoring

last gasp, just-chuck-it-up-there, no skill, purely lucky, junior jazz-style
hail mary pass that the receiver had to come back 10 yards to get a hand on
it?I'm sure Doman drew it up exactly like that.Fluke
luck. Yet another game the kitties should've lost. They're 3-2. Should be 0-5.
jarka, I just got home and ready for my bowl of crow! Nelson did a great job
leading byu back and I didn't think for one minute they would play him tonight
when they didn't pull Heaps the past 2 games. byu will be a much better team
with him leading the way IMO. I thought the Aggies got jobbed on the ejection
of Brady and now watching it on my DVR it makes me even more ticked. Very bad
call on kicking him out. That said, byu was the better team tonight and got the
win and until the Aggies can learn to finish I will be eating tons of crow. Do
I feel we still have a good team? Yep, but we need to turn the corner in a
hurry. GO AGGIES, GO UTES, GO WILDCATS!
With how Utah fans bash on every single BYU related post that just goes to show
how classless you all are Max was right and that hit on Apo was the right call
if you dont like it talk to your pac refs and why do you guys have to trash on
the Y so much you should be worrying about Washington Coach Anderson did not
complain about the ejection so that there shows that he didnt think it was a bad
call and why bash about BYU being happy that they beat a good USU team you guys
went nuts about barely beating Montana State Utah fans you best worry about your
team and leave BYU out of it this is something I dislike alot when the U wins
the rivalry game they have to rub it in the cougs face every time they can.
Great game Riley should be the starter the end drop Jake to 3rd string bring
Lark to back up
I just love it when there is the fresh smell of a QB controversy in the morning.
A few observations on the game from a BYU fan here: The penalty was warranted,
the ejection was not. USU's QB and running backs are the real deal and Turbin is
a beast. I'm a fan. Plucky come back by BYU. A little luck never hurt. Go Cougs.
Go Aggies. (I've always liked USU.)
Looks like alot of utah "fans" watched the game tonight. I went.
Wasn't happy for most of it. Enjoyed the comeback win but am not at all
convinced that it changes anything, just hope it does. But ultimately all I care
about is winning so in that aspect it will be a satisfying week.
Just a few comments...The same fans who were shoveling dirt on Riley
Nelson are now lauding his heart and determination. You weren't looking for
that a last year, just arm strength. Riley is such a better option that Heaps
it isn't even funny, and this has been apparent to people who really know.
Heaps is inaccurate and has no presence. And who is calling for Lark??? He
hasn't even played a down! What are you people talking about? Why
all this disdain for the WAC ("BYU shouldn't be rushing the field after
beating a WAC team"). BYU cut their teeth in the WAC people! Your finest
hours and what makes your program even noteworthy occurred when you were in the
WAC?How ridiculous is this hair talk? Nelson represents the best of
what a BYU QB should be. A player with heart and grit, who lives the ideals of
the church, having gone on a mission. He couldn't get a fair shake until he
took it by brute force tonight. Meanwhile people fret over the length of his
hair. Just goes to show far removed such superficial judgments are from the
real signifiers of virtue.
...if ther will be near this many comments on the story tomorrow about the Utes
loss to the Huskies. I'm willing to bet not.
I rest my case regarding mature leadership and quarterbacking at BYU. Enough
According to Y fans... after Riley loses two games, one of two things will
happen:1) James Lark will suddenly be the best QB on the team2) Jake
Heaps will have "matured" and "humbled" enough to start
Students rushed the field for Riley, not for the win...
My guess would be we have a NEW starting QB at Brigham Young University? I mean,
the attitude is there, players RALLIED behind Nelson, and he seemed to have
CONFIDENCE and SWAGGER! That tells me something arrived onto the Offense
tonight, and his name was not Jake Heaps! Sorry Heaps, just sit tight one more
year and you'll be fine with the new offense next year and a coordinator who
actually has some faith in your abilities. You could see it in Nelson right
away, he didn't add extra gun powder to his cannon, just enough to be on target
and for someone with soft hands to make the catch! Makes a difference when you
aren't trying to break fingers with every throw you make! I think we might be
moving forward now with the offense! I think the problem with the Defense might
have been Bronco paying to much attention to the Offense this week.
You have to love the so called true BYU fans. Again what is worse BYU band wagon
fan or chris B and his ute haters? you make the call.Go cougs!
I knew Riley could bring the fire that this cougar team desperately needed.
Classy comments in the post game interviews no bush league gloating simply
stating the luck that was needed in the end to get the ball tipped into Marcus's
hands for the final score. The win was being in the right place at
the right time that sorta play that seems to roll your way.Well lets
keep it rollin.
Hey hamaca,simple-minded folk? Really?... Nelson didn't win the starting
job because he "didn't sustain performance throughout the whole game"
Maybe so, but are you saying Heaps HAS done so? Because if you are, you are
delusional...the only thing Heaps has sustained throughout the whole game is
mediocrity and defeat. He HAS NOT gotten the job done. Nelson moves the ball and
scores. Will he lead this team to the promised land? Who knows? But, I DO KNOW
that Heaps has been given the chance and HAS NOT performed...END OF STORY
Cougars actually stormed the field in 1997 when BYU was ranked #24 and USU had a
2-2 record. It was funny then too.
I have never seen anything quite like that finish...oh, wait, I have-at Auburn.
I have never seen a defense fold as quickly and completely as Utah State's did
tonight. I thought they would have learned to be more aggressive on defense
after that loss-but, no...but, I guess that is why they are Utah State. I hope
they can figure it out because their QB is electric and they can dominate almost
anyone when they run it-including the SEC.My guess is that their QB will
transfer because he is tired of losing leads to 50 yard passes that could have
been successfully defended by small children and old ladies. Please figure it
out Utah State because Anderson will be fired and never get another job
again-he's supposed to be a defensive minded guy, but the secondary can't stop
anyone from scoring in the final two minutes of a game-EVEN when they mismanage
the clock; the simply refuse to win.
It was great to see some energy from BYU's offense when Nelson came into the
game. I honestly think that Heaps is still young and not prepared to start.
Heaps needs to wait until next year.
Re: Duh - I live out of state and have seen every Utah game on national tv with
exception of Montana State. I don't know why you are still touting your espn
deal. they will relegate your cougs to espn3 and espn U very soon, which are
seen only online.
Coach on post-game show says he has to tenderly care for the feelings of both
QBs going forward. Expect to see more Heaps immaturity, and then late game
heroics by Nelson to pull more games out of the fire, if he can. I suspect,
this will go on for another 2 and a half years...Heaps is not a
leader. He is a timid, scared, little guy out there, just look at him. He
seems to say, how did I get into this, why am I here?Nelson has the
fire, the passion, the drive, the ambition, the desire to make it happen. You
can't teach that, no matter how much on the job training they keep giving Heaps.
Doman ought to know that himself, because he is the last QB at BYU that had
that! No offense to Beck or Maxie, just saying...
The BYU players respect Nelson. Heaps was alone on the sideline and BYU reacted
to its leader... Riley Nelson.
I'm happy for Riley. We fans have been starving to see someone actually lead the
team by example, not mouth, and show some will, determination and toughness.
Nelson may tuck and run a little too much and his accuracy may be a little off,
but he can move the pocket, see the WHOLE FIELD, and make big plays in crunch
time. That was so refreshing to see that again from a BYU QB. I'll
take Nelson's heart over Heaps arm any day of the week. Good for him. Was it all luck? I don't think so. That was a spectacular finishing drive.
Nelson and the Cougs deserved this win.
when Doman said the BYU offense was "inches away", few people
understood what he meant. He meant that BYU was just a few inches away from
canning their starting quarterback and going with somebody who could win!
we found a way to win. riley nelson should be the starter now. he had the look
of knowimg when usu was wounded. nelson is the starter.
Look at all the cries to start Nelson by the simple-minded folk. Oh gee, he had
a good quarter and a half. Has anyone stopped to think Nelson's problem is that
he's only good in shorter spurts like this--especially when the other team's
defense is tired and he's just getting started? He's a sprinter, nothing
more. There's a reason he didn't win the starting job last year or
this year. He can't sustain the performance throughout the whole game. He will
not be able to compensate for what Heaps clearly lacks. Who knows--maybe
tonight is a model for a different approach.
This one time there was this team, had Super Hyped QB and this one Other Tough
As Nails QB. They gave SHQB every start but OTANQB had to come in, take over the
game and come from behind to win... every time! BYU? Nope, Michigan Tom Brady's
senior year. Love Heaps, but I think Riley just proved this is his team. FULL
NELSON!!!P.s. Was it a rush the field worthy night? Probably not,
but I sure as heck will rush it when I get a chance... and I did.
@Boo Ya!!! | 10:14 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Hey, whatever makes you sleep
better at night, hooahhh. @All Utah Fans:Thanks for
watching the game, I am sure glad you get to see at least one Utah team play
football on TV every week and that I get to hear all your lame excuses about how
lucky BYU is and how bad of a team they are. And yep, I think Utah will beat
Washington tomorrow and if they don't, I promise I won't rub it in your face.
@ Chris B. Thank you so much for your input on every
game. Let's see, wasn't this supposed to be the other way around and wasn't BYU
supposed to be 1-4 right now? Just saying! We may be struggling but I am sure
glad we keep making you look bad.
Quarterback controversy? There is no quarterback controversy at BYU-this is
Nelson's team now..end of story. Heaps had a shot, but has repeatedly not gotten
it done. The two times Nelson has played, they moved the ball and scored. If
Bronco starts Heaps next week, he should be fired before the 1st quarter ends
and forcibly removed from the field.
BYU won but could you believe the pathetic 2 minute offense. That is coaching
and Doman is still way over his head. Riley Nelson won that game despite Doman's
terrible coaching. Does it take an entire season to have a hurry up offense? It
is coaching and at BYU it is totally unacceptable. Can't BYU afford to hire some
USU could fall out of a boat and not hit water. They are like the Washington
Generals of football. They called two timeouts on the last drive that saved
time for BYU, the last one was especially confusing--BYU may have run the clock
out on that last play. They get a fumble and do three inside runs instead of
going for the win or at least trying to pick up a few first downs. They need to
get out of the Techmo Bowl spread option package and employ some strategy down
the stretch (imagine that). This team excels at losing. I feel sorry
for Turbin and Keeton. They are so much better talent-wise than BYU, but set up
to fail by the play calls. Coach Anderson has to override the Offensive
Coordinator when he tries to essentially put a knee on it with 7 minutes left,
and the 2 minute drill needs to be improved so the defense doesn't worry about
having to call timeouts. Now I have to hear BYU fans discussing
rankings or even a championship knowing them. With their losses, and their
remaining schedule, they should never break the top 25. USU goofs another one!
im more happy that we changed qbs and have given someone else a chance to
succeed....now hoping heaps never plays another down for byu. i love keeton and
his mojo but love nelson's even more.
Hey Riley - no worries, you're hair's good in my book. That was the
best ending to a football game since Beck to Johnny Harline. Go Huskies!!
The Aggies looked awesome again; almost all the way to the very end - again.Very entertaining evening, especially when my favorite team found a way
to win!And to see all the trolls who just can't stand it . . .
The ejection for hitting hard in the shoulder in a FOOTBALL game was also
CLASSIC!!!Give me a break!!!
Ronnie W. | 9:33 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Layton, UTAggie lose another in

after he plays Montana St.
Luckiest team in America. You should be 0-5 right now.
Well, I never comment, however. Hats off to the Aggies, they played a great
game and probably should have won this game. That being said, the comeback was
fun to watch and I am glad the Cougars pulled that game out. 5 very difficult
games and a respectable 3-2. Now, here is the comment. This clearly is an
underperforming team. The wide recievers, lineman, and quarterback are
overhyped and the running backs are average. The defense is average and I am
tired of the posing that goes on after every play.Doman is clearly in over
his head. The play calling has been below average and the "execution"
at his point of the year from an "experienced" offense is terrible.
Perhaps he will pull it together, let's hope so. Nelson looked good because
Doman knows how to utilize him. If he knew how to use Heaps there would be no
quarterback controversey. When it is all said they may be a
"respectable" 8-4, but really they are a middle of the road team and
no better. It will be up to the coaches to improve this team to a top 20 team
Tough loss for my Aggies. Riley's postgame comments were all class. Turbin is a
great back -- why just 9 carries? He should have 20-25 touches. Here's hoping
for some WAC domination.
Utah State didn't blow this game like they did the others. There was no muffed
punt, no failure to execute an onside kick, no USU turnovers. If anything they
forced a BYU turnover with 4 min left. USU played a tough game and didn't give
it up like they did against Auburn and CSU. Tonight it came down to just making
the plays and BYU made the plays in the 4th Quarter to win the game.I am convinced that USU is a better team than Utah; and how their players and
coaches responded after the game, USU has more class than Utah.
Both teams played an outstanding game. I hope the Aggies keep their heads up and
stomp the WAC. You have a good team, the best quarterback and runningbacks in
the State. #6 was awsome.Congrats Cougs! Nelson really showed that
he deserves a shot at BYU's Quarterback job. I hope Nelson is very successful at
quarterback, Heaps needs to sit until next year, and develop some leadership
skills and courage.
As a Utes fan, I didn't really care who won. BYU winning only makes my Utes look
better. Better luck next time USU. Boy do they have a beast of a RB. I don't
really blame Y fans for storming the field...in small way that is. I think the
fans are still Shel-shocked from the Utes and were really excited for the come
back win. Not to mention Nelson sure makes Heaps look bad. Congrats on the win
Bronco said it best. Riley Nelson is a football player. Enough said
Two comments-Riley got a lot more help from his receivers than Jake. That's
unfortunate for Jake, but says something about Riley making things happen, and
you need that in a team leader. Secondly, why does our defense forget how
to tackle in the second half? The last three weeks I have seen runs that were
initially stuffed turn into 6-8 yard gains or more because nobody wraps up. Come
Another tough loss - I'm afraid the season's over. We might as well let our
young QB open it up and start to prepare for the future.

White to do to them is only going to be worse with Turbin. Agg's offense will
win this game for them, if the defense plays better than average. Sorry cougs
you guys are not that athletic this year.
RiLey has earned the starting spot. Leave the publicist outside of the stadium
and let Riley lead this team.
As I reflect back on the Texas game it's interesting to note how Mack Brown had
seen enough in one half and it took the Cougars coaching staff 4 and half games.
It's okay to tell a kid to take a seat and give him some more time if he needs
it. Nelson played well, and you saw a team respond.
I've been saying for 2 weeks to bench Heaps. Riley played well, but I think
James Lark still needs a shot. I think they should split reps with Lark and
Nielsen for the 1st half against SJSU and see how it goes. If it works keep
doing it in the 2nd half and see if one of them seperates himself from the
other. If it doesn't work play Nielsen entire 2nd half and pull out a victory.
Lark needs an opportunity to play so we can evaluate him in case Riley gets
Doman made the call to replace Heaps with Nelson because he felt Riley's
scrambling ability would introduce a new wrinkle into BYU's offense and give the
Cougar's stagnant offense a spark. It worked, in SPADES.That 96-yard scoring drive was a thing of beauty and gave the Cougars a
well-earned win.Utah State didn't give the game away; BYU took it
from them.Congrats to the Aggies on a well-played game. Utah State
has a legitimate chance of playing in a bowl game this year.
It took an Aggie qb to beat the Aggies tonight. And that really stinks!
Wow-Utah State didn't learn a thing from the Auburn loss-so, so, disappointing.
Soft zone defense-the so called "prevent" defense really only prevents
you from winning. Especially when your secondary can't cover anyone. You have a
team on the ropes with a back-up quarterback at the helm and you can't cover
anyone anyway-why not pin your ears back and send everyone on almost every play?
Let your guys chase the quarterback and at least give the safeties and corners
something productive to do instead of getting beat like a drum-you already know
they can't cover anyone anyway-so send them! Your opponent is staring at losing
to you @ home for the first time since 1978, they are nervous anyway because
they have not been playing well-tell me they won't be tight as they think about
those things. But, no, you allow them to breathe-it's simply unbelievable. Utah
State has the best collegiate quarterback in the state and a running game that
can compete with anyone-including the SEC. But, they can't finish-too bad,
because the Fresh QB will leave like Nelson did because he'd like to hold a lead
once in awhile.
Coach Anderson....We saw it at Utah and we are now seeing it at Utah State. You
get a 4th QTR lead and try to hang on. You play "not to lose" instead
of trying to extend the lead. The final series your offese ran was a sign of
this. Playing soft defense for 96 yards is anothe sign of the this.It does not work to sit back in coverage (deep converage) and let the other
tema get 15-20 yard plays right down to the 10 yard line. You would think you
would learn. Please play to win. The two point conversion thing and you thinking
you do play to win and trying to change a culture is just not true. You should
have never been in OT in that game.
@jarka-usYou mean second PAC loss, they already got taken down by
I love my Aggies!!! The 3 things I'll take away tonight is:1) Took
an Ex-Aggie player to start the comeback.2) Cougar Stadium is named
after an AGGIE football playerand 3) I never have to
read (without a huge gut laugh) a comment on the blogs about USU fans storming
the court!!! Kitties storming the field after beating Utah State!!! THAT was a
classic!!! You stormed the field on a team that's 1-3. NICE!!!!
Did you folks notice the add on page three of the comments, PRICELESS.
Yesterday I read comment after comment from BYU haters promising the Aggies
would roll the Cougars. Instead, BYU pulls off the comeback win. And
what's your response?-Complaining about Cougar fans storming the
field after a beating a WAC team (A team which I remind you again, you predicted
would roll BYU)-Making fun of Riley Nelson's hair (Couldn't care
less about his hair, the guy just won the starting QB job)-Saying
the Cougars got lucky (But again, you predicted the Aggies would roll BYU. Had
to have been more than luck)I'm surprised none of you BYU haters
have blamed the refs yet. I suppose that will be coming shortly.
"embarassing that our fans rush the field after we beat utah state. how
times have changed. "Monkey see, Monkey do. Notice not very
many fans were there. Maybe 200. I think it was such an emotional game that
people were so happy to win. It's also a sign of respect to USUs team. USU
always does that even when they beat a BYU/UT team with a losing record. They
are the kings of those lame things, so don't blame BYU.Still, I just
wanna say that I'm so sick of hearing all of USU classless fans rant and rave
forever. Glad to silence them for a while. This win feels great! BYU is 3-2,
with the only real threats left being TCU and Hawai'i. They survived their
gauntlet. 9-3, 8-4 will be the worst this team gets. May be the best record in
the state by the end. Ah, time to sleep well and enjoy a great
MidMajor4everThere's nothing more pathetic than a bitter, jealous
little brother whining about his older brother engineering a 96-yard scoring
drive in the last 2:30 of a game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.btw, remind us once again the score of the last mid-major bowl the Utes
played in against a WAC team.
Diluigi needed to swing that helmet a little harder! How many times has this
kid coughed up the football at critical times? Too soft. Tippy toes, can't
hold on to the ball. Put him in the slot and make a receiver out of him but
quit letting him give the other team the ball.
Great finish. Riley really "brought it."I was so
frustrated when we changed quarterbacks. For three drives in a row
we played, run, run, and dink and dunk, which didn't help Jake Heaps at all.The last drive at the end of the 3rd quarter had the most questionable
I'm a Utah fan but I live in Cache County and support the Aggies as well. I will
not comment on another BYU game/article this year. There just isn't any interest
for me in your team. Enjoy the rest of your season.I'm sure there
won't be any BYU fans posting on the Utah game tomorrow, as classy as you all
are.As a Ute I'm now very concerned about where my team stands right
now. The 54-10 blowout doesn't look that good at all after what I've seen from
BYU. Washington might expose a lot of weaknesses in the Utes tomorrow. We will
have to wait and see.
SportsFan101 | 9:36 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011My Aggies continue to choke like
nobody has choked before. ----------- ----------------Um, how about the Boston Redsox??Unlike the Redsox Utah State
still hasn't learned how to win. You guys have a good future, good
Ute fan, Cougar fan, Aggie fan....doesn't matter. You have to admit that Riley
Nelson just pulled off something amazing. And to do it against his
former team takes some moxie. I would choose heart over talent at this point.
It's obvious Nelson is a better leader,Heaps might want to transfer
after this year. The poor kid has zero confidence and he has talked too much.
Wish him the best.
As an Aggie and Ute I can defiantly say the better team did not win tonight.
Nice rushing the field when you beat us; oh the mighty have fallen when they
rush the field after a come from behind win over a 1 win team. Bronco may the right move on the QB switch. You could tell the other Y
players were more amped with traitor Riley in there vs. Heaps.
From a utah fan: you gotta feel for the aggies. Stop saying it was "just
utah state." anderson has those boys flying around. They may win out,
they're due some major karma. Good win for the Y against a quality
opponent. Riley is way better than heaps, wish he would have transferred to us.
We have a coach that would recognize the better player. Heaps would probably
move to long snapper or something. Maybe he can toss it through his lega more
niners, D'acniciaa, johnjacobdrrrrr...ahahaha such petty little BYU
haters, can't wait for the Utesies to lose their first PAC game tomorrow.

JohnJacobJingleHeimerSchmidt,Utah football is superior to
Great comeback win by the Cougars. They showed a lot of grit in the fourth
quarter and earned this one. Still, I can't help but chuckle at a couple of
trends I have noticed on this comment board:1) Much speculation as
to what BYU fans think. I haven't heard a word of criticism about Nelson's hair
or speculation that he will win the Heisman out of BYU fans...only from others.
So many assumptions...so many straw man arguments.2) The speed with
which Utah fans comment on BYU articles. I'm sure that BYU and ESPN are
thankful for the attention you pay them. At least you can watch one of your
state's teams play regularly on an accessible channel, right?
nevadacoug hypocricy? didn't byu fans rushed the field after senior max hall
beat a freshman qb jordon wynn in ot the last time byu beat utah. since the
2010game all i have heard was jake heaps was the real deal and jordon wynn
was a substandard qb how things have change
These are the things that teams have a hard time coming back from. The Aggies
still have conference play, and lets not forget the 5th best rushing team in the
nation. A great game, fun to watch. And from a guy who's watched a lot of
football and seen lots of teams come back, I for the life of me will never
figure out the hate the the disparaging remarks that come out of peoples mouths.
Why are the Ute fans on here talking trash? Go to bed and go to the game
tommorrow to cheer your team on. Why does it tick you people off so much to see
our in state teams do well. It was an in state game, someone had to lose. BYU
earned it. They never quit. A change was made that paid off. And they had to go
96 yards in basically 2 minutes. If you can't hold the lead and stop a team from
going 96 yards in 2 minutes....I'm not sure you deserve to win.
It is always sad when there is hate on every posting that goes up on DESNEWS. I
don't hate Utah, I don't hate Utah State, I just love good football. We didn't
get a good football game against Utah but we got a good win against Utah State.
Great came, kudos to Utah State. Yes they were the better team just like they
were against Auburn and Colorado State unfortunately, it does not matter how
many yards you get or how many recptions you make, the only thing that matters
is the final score. Thanks to both teams for a great game. Now, Utah State go
kick the WAC in the best fashion possible and get to a bowl game this year.
Well they finally replace Heaps, way way over due,BUT they replaced him with the
second best QB on the team, what has James Lark done to deserve the treatment
he's getting?? He should have taken one of the offers he got from Arizona or
UCLA and bypassed BYU when he came back from his mission.Nelson is much better
than Heaps but Lark is the best QB.
I love how the Utes shellacked BYU and they have the nerve to comment on bad
calls... Give it a rest RED... The better team lost tonight and that's coming
from a die hard coug fan... But still I'll take it. Go Cougs!!!!
aggie bobYour right. I will take a lucky win over a loss any day.
Ask Utah State how they feel about that.
@ worfYep best 2 teams in Utah, although I did watch a team from
Cedar last week that looked like it might beat both the teams I saw tonight.
Keep repeating that though, I hope it comes true for you. Sounds like you need
it more than I do...
i love how people are spinning the issue with rileys hair. which by the way is
what byu needs. something different.first its "i can't believe
how stupid the honor code is", then its "i can't believe you don't
enforce the honor code". which one is it. you can't have it both ways.
anything to hate.
again. 2006 has taught gary anderson nothing.
Sports NutssWell I'll be waiting for ya. But I won't stoop to the level of
pathetic utes fans or some Aggies fan(D'Anconia, Utah_State_Fan) talking
sillyness like potty mouths and kick USU while they are down. This was a hard
fought game. Now I know that Turbin is a stud. But right now USU is not the
better team. BYU still has a lot to work on and now with Heaps hopefully sitting
the bench and learning from Riley we will see some real progress.
Wow, Maybe BYU won't have to be a second half team after this week? Four Quarter
team? It is hoped for! Utah game they were a no quarter team:but then again
buttered corn on the cob before the game doesn't help!Remember there is no
quarterback issue at BYU. "Heaps is my Quarterback!"B.M. By the way
does anyone know Riley's Quarterback rating?
Why stop at Utah worf? I thinks it's time to start talking about a national
champion ship! Too funny.
Any Ute fan posting on here right now is clearly not a Ute fan at all, just a
BYU hater. Why should any Ute fan even care? And I said it all last
year, Nelson should have been the starter, he makes plays happen. He had way
more experience, and Heaps wasn't ready. Too many people bought into the Heaps
hype way early. He just needs some time to learn OFF the field, work on timing
No tearing down the goalpost Cougar fan? Oh, that is beneath you? When you wake up tomorrow BYU fan, remember this, you beat a WAC team by 3 and
you may have found a better QB but you still have the same porous defense.
Don't let that keep you up at night.
Best two teams in Utah. USU, best 1-3 team in the country.
Ouch! Sorry Aggie fans. That has to hurt. USU was the better team tonight.
Let me remind my Ute fan friends that this game was between BYU and Utah State.
Your obsessive hatred toward BYU is just silly. Great game Cougs!
The Aggies are the real deal. Sure they struggle at the end of games, but you
can't deny that they have a good team. Turbin is a beast and Keaton will be an
amazing QB for the Aggies.

is going as a night of BYU magic. You can't explain, but you saw it with your
Gotta love that potty mouth luigi.......way to represent on national tv......
Has the honor code changed? Nelson's hair and Luigi's language certainly
tarnishes the desired image....Nice Mid-Major Bowl win!
A win is a win. It was ugly. Congrats. Heaps may not be the man anymore.
Who cares who storms the field and who doesn't. Nice win by BYU after USU goes
way too conservative.Heaps should be done.
After 23 quarters, Bronco and Brandon finally realize that Heaps is all hype.
Tonight BYU proved that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. They
definitely were not good. The defense is soft. The offense is, well we all
know how bad they have been. At least now they know how to score in the crunch,
keep Heaps on the bench.
FINALLY! Heaps is on the sidelines where he belongs, and BYU wins!
@ aggie bob | 9:27 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011Its better to be lucky than
good and tonight proved it. @ Captain Caveman | 9:30 p.m. Sept. 30,
201154-10 ring any bells?
Hey, good luck Cougs. I still really dislike all of ya, but your team definitely
pulled this one off ;) My Aggies continue to choke like nobody has choked
before. And if you want some more success..Bag Heaps and stick with Nielsen!
Good luck with the rest of the season.
BYU fans storm the field in their come from behind Mid-Major Bowl win over Utah
Early on I thought this game would be the demise of Brandon Doman (like Jaime
Hill last year). But now the Aggies need to fire somebody - - epic collapse (s)
are becoming the norm for the team from Logan. Gotta feel bad for Coach
Anderson and the players, but some changes are definitely in order somewhere in
the Aggie locker room.
Bronco had better not start Heaps next game. If he threatens to walk, show him
Aggie lose another in clutch. Painful. While I congratulate the Cougars they
have to keep in mind it's only Utah State. A lot of BYU graduates always
consider that their school is better than everyone else. I think BYU may be a
great school but their attitude is a big turn off for a lot of non-Mormons.
Fun times! You gotta love a game that comes down to the last seconds, especially
when your team has to come from behind. Riley goes 10-14 for 144 yards and
picked up amazing first downs with his feet. Furthermore, he seems to have
energized the whole offense - everybody looked more focused and inspired. That
is leadership, a quality of heart, not arm strength.
I wonder if Bronco will make the statement "I don't think the best team won
tonight" during his press conference?
bronco spent alot longer with gary anderson after the game then the weak
handshake he give kwitt. nice winner nice moment riley nelson seeking out gary
anderson i guess he said i am glad i transfered too byu
embarassing that our fans rush the field after we beat utah state. how times
have changed. riley nelson is a football player. heaps just isn't
tough enough for the game right now, physically/mentally. but he can still
bounce back i hope.
Good grief, didn't the Ute fans rush the field after beating lowly BYU last
season? Yet the trolls are excoriating BYU fans for celebrating after a last
minute drive to avenge last season's loss to this same Aggie team? One word: hypocrisy
@ flatlanderYou are telling me Riley is so good he could have
overcame a 44 point loss? Wow, won't be too soon before BYU fans start claiming
Riley as the next heisman trophy winner...
Thank you Riley Nelson, Thank You. You just earned a starting job as QB for BYU.
Heaps, you gave your all, but you need another year to work on your timing.
Congrats BYU, USU you had them pinned at their 2 yard line, and couldnt finish
it, great game, your QB is a stud and will be fun to watch in the coming games
and years. Good Win, ugly win, but a win. Fun to watch, I have to go take my
Have Ute fans dropped so low that they complain about BYU during a game they are
not involved in?
I remember BYU fans making fun of Utah fans for storming the field when Utah
came from behind to beat then-Pac 10 member Oregon State during their 2008
perfect season.Yet, we now have BYU fans storming the field after
BYU comes from behind to beat Utah State of the WAC, on a fluke play, no
less. My, how BYU's program has fallen.
It's funny to read the bitterly disappointed Utesies trying to slag BYU for
getting the victory against the Aggies. They conveniently forget that the Aggies
just about upset Auburn too. Great job by Nelson for breathing life
into the Offense. Hapa, bro, you were right all along! Glad to see Doman have
the courage to pull the plug on Heaps!
Ron McBride wants to play BYU next Friday.
If Riley doesn't start the next game, maybe Holmoe should start looking for a
new head coach. You just don't beat yourself; on the field or off.
That's why Crowton was sent packing: his teams kept beating themselves on and
off the field. Bronco seems to have the off field issues in check, but I'm not
sure he is doing a good enough job keeping his team focused on the field. It's
not just about winning and losing. If they lose an get beat, fine. But they
are beating themselves. Not measuring up to the best you can be is definitely
not in line with what BYU and the Church are about. No disrespect to
Utah State, who played very well. But BYU was beating themselves in this game
until they pulled it out at the end. As the Utah St. guy said on the ESPN
gamecast: BYU dominated the first half, yet were still losing. That's beating
yourself.Fix it Bronco, or go look for another job.
Can we give Nelson the job on a permanent basis? He is F-U-N to watch!!!!
USU has got some bad voodoo. BYU won that on luck and there's no way you can
Have the cougars dropped so low that their fans rush the field after a win
against Utah state?
AGGIES LOSS TO MAN RILEY !
I wonder how many hypocritical fans who were criticizing Nelson's hair will now
embrace him because he won. Honor code alert BYU, honor code alert?
For Riley Nelson, magic happens. The storied comebacks continue. To
quote Al Michaels: Do you believe in miracles?
wow byu fans storming the field for beating a wac team?
It was funny to watch 2 USU QB playing again each other.BYU should
stay with Riley last year.
Wow, good job BYU, you blew out the mighty USU by a huge margin of 3 points.
You are well on the way to the BCS and a conference championship. How sad, BYU fan is running onto the field, for beating USU, that says a lot
about the state of BYU.
Heaps should never play another snap again. What kind of coaches would play
Heaps like they did. They lost the two earlier games by playing the wrong
TOUCHDOWN! Can U believe it!
Socalute: hey no prob. I get it. Your HS Utes don't play until tomorrow
night. We welcome U to ESPN!
BYU fumbles...again, why does that sound familiar?
@Fred VaderMy local highschool football is not play today. So I
watch HS football on ESPN.
if byu thinks they are big brother can they be the 3rd best football team in
You score a TD to go down by 5. What do you do, kick the point? NO. If you make
it, you are down a td. you go for TWO. Make it, you are down a FG.
miss, you are STILL down a td if the aggies score a FG you are still down a TD
and a 2 point conversion. bronco is a horrible in-game coach.
Here's a good lesson a on sticking to what you believe in and what you want. It
may have as much do to with the change and the surge of adrenalin that comes
from finally getting his chance, but Riley is certainly stepping up here.
Another successful drive and we may have a new starter. If so we
would have to conclude that Jake just hasn't reached the level of maturity he
needs to lead the team: the tools are there, but the mindset lacks. Give him
some time and he may become a good quarterback, but what we are seeing here
tells us he is not there yet.
Hey, we sure appreciate all U little brothers showing up to watch you Big Cougar
Is Riley Nelson growing his hair for a special reason? I'm not being rude, just
pretty sure that his hair length is not within BYU grooming standards.
Socalute,That's funny right there. I don't care who you are. That right
there was funny!
re: SoCalUtahFan | 8:38 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 I wonder what a certain
institution in Cedar City has to say?
I have a new found respect for Utah State.
I didnt need to ask it looks more like the 6th best team behind LP and bingham
@kski13 ...is byu the 3rd best football in the state of utah? ...I asked Ron McBride and he said no
is byu the 3rd best football in the state of utah?
Dang! as a Ute fan I do not even feel good about our 44 point win over BYU:( I
am starting to get worried about tomorrows game vs Washington now.
A Big Thank You to who ever delivered my message!
That's the difference between BYU football and BCS football, a BCS football
coach would know when to pull a struggling quarterback. Yes, the receivers
haven't helped much, but BCS QB's know how to inspire their receivers, Heaps
doesn't. If anyone can get this message to Doman or Bronco...tell them to bench
@ go redcant blame BYU for the lack of a call it was pac whatever
Both teams are playing well, should be a good one...........Go Aggies! As
long as they don't kick out anymore of our players ha ha.......
@everybody that commented after me. I didn't intent it to be a slam on Riley,
but more of a slam on the testing center. My little bro' was often turned away
at the testing center for having his hair almost as long as Riley's is. Back to the game: I'm glad to see BYU is moving the ball on offense.
Heaps is still throwing bullets past some of his receivers, but he seams to be
settling down a little. The defense seems determined to make up for that early
error and have been making a lot of hard hits. The most impressive
player on the field has gotta be Chuckie Keeton.
Dear brandon what game are you watching? apo sat out a couple of plays not a
couple of series
How is it that the hit on Apo not only gets a penalty, but also the USU player
gets ejected---Yet when the BYU player hit Utah's Christopher in an even harder
helmet-to-helmet hit, nothing is called?Sometimes BYU's home cooking
to too painful to watch.
5 touchdowns on 14 red-zone appearances by BYU this year. Maybe it's due to
things like, oh, I don't know, two straight pass plays when you have 2nd and
two?Your line ways over 1200 pounds. Add in a tight end or two, and
you can push it up over 1500. Line up, push the defense back, and pick up a
couple of yards. If you can't figure that out, fire the offensive
coordinator. Stop trying to get cute.
does byu think their is a penalty committed on every play against them?
"JP | 6:42 p.m. Sept. 30, 2011 Chandler, AZNice run Riley, but
what's with the hair? You obviously haven't been to the Testing Center
recently"This is why I won't ever send any of my family to BYU.
Even though he isn't breaking the honor code other people deem it fit to
publicly accuse him of it.USU scores as BYU cannot contain the
freshman quarterback on the run. USU isn't intimidated.
What does Riley's hair have to do with the game. For that matter, why would it
cause him trouble with the testing center - it doesn't cover his ears or touch
his collar. For that matter, what business is it of yours. This blog is about
the game not about your opinions about BYU and its honor code.
Nice run Riley, but what's with the hair? You obviously haven't been to the
Testing Center recently.
That was absolutely, positively, the worst call I have ever seen. It's called
football, you know tackle football. I guess maybe ESPN has put the word out,
that we need to help BYU in any way possible to justify the miserable contract
they signed with the Y a few months ago.
Nice job by Apo to get the flag by grabbing his leg like a soccer player after
getting hit in the shoulder.
This BYU team is not well coached.
Seriously, Cougars. Caught in a shift and give up a touchdown on the first
play. Will BYU fire its Defensive Coordinator if they lose?
