I don't know about anyone else, but I think anybody who would pay $250,000 for a studio apartment has a screw loose.
Thats way to much for a studio. I paid 200.00/month for a studio in the lower avenues and had a wonderful view and for the most part I could walk to wherever I wanted to go.

but re. the wood floors, you are right. Some things never change. Others come full circle. In this case it is the latter. But that wouldn't fit the story as well.
