Senate Investigates the "Teapot Dome" Scandal
On April 15, 1922, Wyoming Democratic Senator John Kendrick introduced a resolution that set in motion one of the most significant investigations in Senate history. On the previous day, the Wall Street Journal had reported an unprecedented secret arrangement in which the secretary of the Interior, without competitive bidding, had leased the U.S. naval petroleum reserve at Wyoming's Teapot Dome to a private oil company. Wisconsin Republican Senator Robert La Follette arranged for the Senate Committee on Public Lands to investigate the matter. His suspicions deepened after someone ransacked his quarters in the Senate Office Building. Expecting this to be a tedious and probably futile inquiry, the committee's Republican leadership allowed the panel's most junior minority member, Montana Democrat Thomas Walsh, to chair the panel. Preeminent among the many difficult questions facing him was, "How did Interior Secretary Albert Fall get so rich so quickly.?"
Just these "new kids on the block" forget, they were not around when we were, but they think they know it all, listening to Glenn Beck and Ruch Limbaugh.
Mt truthful views.

This will put you in a better frame of mind and a more relaxed space. The Teapot Dome scandal was a victory for neither political party in the 1920's, it did become a malor issue in the presidential election of 1924 but neither party could claim full credit for divulging the wrongdoing. The concentrated attention on the scandal made it the first true symbol of government corruption in America. The scandal did reveal the problem of natural resource scarcity and the need to protect for the future against the depletion of resources in a time of emergency. Calvin Coolidge, who assumed the presidency after Harding's death, handled the problem very systematically and his administration avoided any damage to their reputation. Overall the Teapot Dome scandal came to represent the corruption of American politics which has become more prevelant over the decades since the scandal. Teapot Dome, a rather implicating charade that involved the Secretary of the Interior and the oil industry was one of the first major scandals of modern day presidency's, and served as an example for the press to vent steam against their government.
Please explain why you botched the Bay of Pigs invasion Mr. Obama. The 1961 "Bay of Pigs Invasion", an unsuccessful attempt by armed Cuban exiles in southwest Cuba to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro, was planned and funded by the United States during John F. Kennedy's Presidency. The invasion failed partly due to Kennedy's decision to alter crucial elements of the operation to make it appear as if the Cuban exiles had planned it, so that his administration could claim "plausible deniability" and avoid responsibility for the invasion as a U.S. operation. Kennedy ended up canceling a series of air strikes designed to finish off Castro's air force. He also changed landing sites. In the aftermath of the botched Bay of Pigs invasion and the Vienna Summit debacle, the Soviet Union began building missile sites in Cuba. On October 14 an American U-2 flight photographed the missile sites. Kennedy, realizing it was imperative for him to respond strongly this time around, deployed a naval task force of nineteen ships to prevent missiles from entering Cuba. He also threatened to sink any ship interfering with the "quarantine" of Cuba. Kennedy removes tyrants, Obama seeks to coddle them.
And to think, most all in Utah call themself "patriots" age vote "R" at the polls?. LOL - good one.
Jay Evensen, Deseret News said: "Several Utah cities held primary elections this week. A good scavenger hunt item would be to find someone who actually voted. Turnout was less than 10 percent overall. Maybe future ballots should throw in some item of general interest to attract more voters, like choosing your favorite on Dancing With the Stars. But then we might end up with Hines Ward as the mayor of Ogden". Hines Ward - star wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and reigning "Dancing With the Stars" champion - was arrested this morning for driving under the influence of alcohol - TMZ has learned. According to DeKalb police, Ward was stopped about 2:30 AM on Buford Highway after an officer spotted his Aston Martin failing to maintain lane and hitting a curb. Ward reportedly failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer test. He posted $1,000 bond and was released.
I could go on and on, but we are allowed only no-more than 200 words, perhaps Jay Evensen will add more, how these Tea Party fools vote.
This is by far one of my favorite columns. Love it every week.
