@Laurels---Responding to my call for Wynn to cut his hair.
Locks of Love? I didn't know that is what he said it was for BUT, I'm sticking to my statement.

You don't see Lance Armstrong trying to look like a cover girl and growing his hair out. He cares just as much about cancer.

I'm just saying that he needs all the help he can get looking like a football player.

you're right - I forgot about Utah getting grilled by TCU. You have to admit though that Utah rarely gets blown out but BYU seems to have at least 2 per year. Yes BYU was in the game at the half but that is exactly my point. Good coaches and teams make adjustments and Utah certainly did and BYU didn't. BYU sticks with the 3 man rush all game long and gives Wynn - a side armed gimp that had basically nothing on his throws - 5 to 7 seconds to survey the field on each throw. Good grief a high school QB could have connected on most of the throws Wynn made with that much time. Most teams would have brought HUGE pressure on Wynn knowing his limited throwing ability but not Bronco. Also the fumbles are simply not being mentally prepared to play and not using good fundamentals. Every team fumbles now and then but BYU was a circus out there. When you go independent and all eyes on ESPN are on you a coach has to make certain his team is ready for the challenge and BYU was sleep walking all game long.

Are you kidding me?? Not part of the game so it didn't count. wow that is just brilliant. If they make that field goal its TIED!! And guess what the game in Texas to a top 25 ranked team was very competitive as well Final score 17-16 no final plays that didn't count.

Has anyone asked Bronco if there is a QB change in the mix ?

As a Ute, I have to agree with the headline. Utah is the better school in football this year... but not nearly as much better as that game would indicate. After all the first half was extremely close and sloppy on both sides. What it does indicate is what the potential of these teams are (the second half is as good as Utah gets and as bad as BYU gets, play this game a bunch of times and the whole 54-10 thing would be an outlier).

You have to take a moment and realize how low the BYU football program has fallen when the only thing they have left is to criticize a players HAIR that he is growing for a cancer charity. Take a long hard look in the mirror Cougar fan, this is what you are now, nitpicking hair and not football. You are not a football powerhouse or quarterback factory, you are hair critics. I for one celebrate anyone willing to help those with cancer suffer less.

If BYU keeps playing like this, I think they should drop the Utes as a rivalry game and schedule the University of Phoenix instead.

Funny how a bunch of people tell Mendenahall to get fired up. Well, lets see, Lavell Edwards got fired up less than Mendenahall and yet he has a National Championship and dominated Utah for 20 years or more. So tell me what that means to get fired up? I don't think Kyle gets much more fired up than Mendenahall does, at least they don't show it on TV very much. I see about equal amount of passion.

As for this year, the game is over, I am licking the wounds, taking my lumps and moving on. No matter what, I will always be a Cougar fan no matter where all this alignment takes them. I will never second guess our coach. You know people, it just may be that our players just can't execute. Take away the turnovers for this game, maybe it's a different outcome. Lose your confidence and you can just throw in the towel. BYU lost theirs way too early. Here's hoping they get it back.

UCF is now good. Did you see who beat them last weekend?

UFC is no good, rather....If you saw the score and who beat them last game, you would agree.

@Red...

People show they care for different causes in a variety of ways. Wynn's purpose in growing his hair is not to look like a "cover girl" but to do something to honor his grandmother. Your choice of words to describe Wynn's efforts for Locks of Love has a denigrating and judgmental feel to them.

Lance Armstrong has chosen other avenues to help cancer patients. Just because Lance Armstrong hasn't chosen to grow out his hair and donate it to Locks of Love doesn't mean that choice is silly or inconsequential, or that Armstrong doesn't care about helping cancer patients as much as Jordan Wynn does, or vice versa. Truthfully, that really was a nonsensical comparison on your part.

The length of Wynn's hair will not impact his playing ability, nor does it determine his effectiveness as a QB.

Perhaps you prefer short hair on your football players. Truthfully, I do too. But if growing his hair out for Locks of Love helps him deal with the grief of his grandmother's death by allowing him to do something concrete to show his support for other cancer patients, it wouldn't hurt to give him some credit for the kindness.

Why do so many people become jerks after a game is over? I love sports, but guys it's only a game, and one none of you even played in. If you are getting your self worth from what happened on Saturday night (and judging from the comments, I think people on both sides are applying this game to their self worth) then you need to get a life. Congratulations to the Utes. Better luck next time to the Cougars. I hope they all get a first rate education in their 4 years on campus and go on to make the world a better place.

As a BYU fan, I agree with atl134. However, I would not say that Utah is necessarily the more talented team. Talent-wise I would say they are about even. However, I think Utah is a MUCH better coached team, at least on offense and special teams. Defensive coaching is about even. Utah is also a MUCH more disciplined team that is MUCH less prone to making big bone headed mistakes. This is probably tied to the fact that they are coached better.

So, although I am not calling for any coaching changes just yet, I think most of the blame lies with the coaches. I hate to say that because I like the coaches. I still think Bronco is a good coach, but maybe not quite up to Whittingham's level. I loved Doman as a QB and a QB coach, but I just don't think he has what it takes to ever be a good Offensive coordinator (I admit I may be judging too quickly).

so byu losing to a 24th ranked texas team, although it was close it was still a loss, would indicate that byu can't play with the big boys either, right?

i guess i'll give you ole miss, oh wait, they just got blown out by vanderbilt. oh and your measly offense only scored one touchdown that game too.

oh, by the way...

I'm not overreacting, I've been going to BYU games since 1974, but the score against Utah and the offensive production this season thus far tell the story.

Cavetroll.......BYU was forced into taking on Boise State's schedule to make sure that have a full schedule for 2011. Don't worry, while the Utes get used to playing quality Pac 12 caliber teams like WSU and Colorado in the future, BYU will be playing Notre Dame, Texas, G Tech and West Virginia."

As teams move to super conferences, they will change their future scheduling. Bank on it. There is no guarantee that BYU will play ND, Texas and the others you mentioned down the road. Agreements can be broken. Happens all the time. Meanwhile Utah will be on the inside playing in a power conference. BYU, well they will be on the outside playing dodge ball with San Jose St.

How about this one...Hello Mike, you have been fired. Please don't over-react.

Flashback:

I disagree with your analysis on the emotion thing. If anything, in its last two games especially, BYU comes out way too amped up. Then when the emotional energy runs out it effects their physical state.

Great teams generally come out with an even keel. They don't get hyped up, they don't panic if adversity comes at the first of the game.

Of course you want to come out ready to play, the Utes didn't against USC and found themselves in a 10-0 hole but if you come out with too much fervor, you burn yourself out and I think that is what exactly happened to BYU. Plus their coaches aren't making halftime and game adjustments which exacerbates the problem.
