Nice story. Steve, you really are all right.
Steve Young does look a bit like Tye Detmer.
A third Steve Young ran for Congress twice here in OC, but he lost (the name ID couldn't overcome his Democratic party affiliation).
What a cool story. When I was young, a few people mistook me for Bobby Orr. (Hockey?, Boston?, remember?) It was fun.
I feel for Steve. People always tell me I look like Brad Pitt.
Great looking family Steve. People often mistake me for Buddy Hackett, be thankful for your burden.
My husband and I knew Steve and Barbara at Ricks College (BYU-I). Great people! What a fun article!
And that is what the rivalry should be about! Love this story! Glad his children were raised/influenced by their mother! I love Utah fans like this! I wish I knew more of this kind, and not the other! Go Cougars!
Fun Story and my hats off to the "other" Steve Young.
I grew up next to the U (East High) and worked at the U and classes in summer as a kid and went to all the U games, played golf etc etc etc. I wanted a change and I loved BYU so I became a Zoobee. My first semester in 1976 everyone thought I was Gifford Nielsen. I am the same height and build and I really do (did) look like him. So I would walk around and everyone called me Giff. When confronted or stopped I would say sorry not him, I wish. So that was my claim to fame. Never met Giff and or the more famous Steve Young. Went to all the games. Ironic thing is that I am 3rd cousins with the more famous Steve Young but come to think of it I must be 3rd cousins or something like that to this Steve Young too.
Good Job Cousin Steve. Hope to meet you and the other Steve some day.
By the way Go Cougs this week. This is my Blue only week with no Red in sight.
The real Steve Young is not a ute in any way, shape, or form.
"We keep the rivarly run"
Wow, if the everybody else could do the same, I think I'd actually think the rivalry is a good thing for the community. But it's not...
"We keep the rivalry fun"
Wow, if the rest of us could do the same, I think the rivalry would be a good thing for our community. Unfortunately, as it is now, it's not...
ID theft is a crime, Steve.
A non-Steve Young Ute Ty Detmer stunt double...love it!
His family's ratio of BYU-to-Ute fans is about 12:1, which is also the national average.
Go cougs
Tom in CA,
They are both real.
she's not wearing blue in that picture
I'm confused.
LOL...this was a fun article. Steve sounds like a great guy. Both of them.
Great article.
Sounds like he has fun with the Ty Detmer look-alike thing and the name thing.
Here's hoping his wife keeps her influence on the kids...eventually Mr. Young will come over to the Blue Side too.
I wrote on the attendance roll in Sunday School, as a BYU freshman that I was Ty Detmer, as a joke. For four years, people from my first ward referred to me as Ty, long after I had forgotten about it. I don't look anything like Ty Detmer, but this Steve Young sure does. Great story!
Fun article. Thanks for sharing Doug.
Years ago when John Stockton was still playing for the Jazz and I lived in Utah I was frequently asked if I were him. One day I was visiting some relatives in South Jordan and, as I got out of the car, I noticed neighbors staring at me. Shortly after entering the house, the neighbors knocked on the door and asked if they could meet John Stockton. That was pretty funny.
Good luck to Steve in the future. Now if you really want to do well in life you will become a Cougar fan. Your wife saw the light and so did your daughter. Now it is your turn! :-)
