As much as it pains me to say this, I think Bingham's rating should be closer to Alta's, one way or the other. After the last-minute win two weeks ago and the debacle in California I just can't see how Parry's system can put the Miners 8.5 points ahead of the Hawks.
I DO see the Miners taking their frustration over what the Orange Lutheran Lancers did to them out on the Layton Lancers. The last two weeks had to drive home the fact that this Bingham squad can't coast and win like they did last year. A huge serving of humble pie a la Orange should have done the trick.

Ratings? Cmon, ridiculous. Riverton's rating is 92. They are 1-2 and lost to Herriman. Herriman is 3-0 (I know, they haven't played anybody) they beat Riverton and they are 65. Huh? I am not begging for Herriman to be higher, so don't misunderstand. But, this just makes no dang sense for Riverton to still have such a significantly higher rating. This stuff is just fluff for entertainment purposes.

Region 9 went 4 and 1 last week.

Snow Canyon 28 North Snpete 14 SC gets its firet win.

Region starts for the rest of the league.

Hurricane 42 Cedar City 14 This will be a tight game for the first quarter. Cedar has had a vert tough schedule and is going to come out hungry. Pecock always does his home work and his teams know what to expect in region play. Cedar will know how to defend the pulling guards but Hurricane will be too much.

Desert Hills 28 Canyon View 7 Desert Hills wins easily. The defense continues to be tough offense is getting better. This will be a good way for DH to start region play.

Dixie 31 Pine View 26 Yes I am picking the upset. The numbers say PV my gut says upset. I think that Dixie has a better kicking game and p.a.t.'s and a field goal will be the difference.

Good luck to all and go have some fun.

Some curious rating point discrepancies.

Some spreads that are way too much:

Jordan by 30 plus points over Kearns
Springville by 30 plus over Maple Mountain
Judge Memorial by 13 over Granger
Provo by 10 over Orem
Fremont by 10 plus over East.

I am going out on a limb but I think the Bingham vs. Layton game has too big of a spread as well.

Herriman with a lower power rating than Riverton. Not just lower but 27 points? Didn't Herriman beat them and they also have a better record.

Just curious if Hunter will score this week. Something tells me they will though on paper if they can't score on West Jordan then how can they on Davis? At any rate at 0-3 with no points scored in three games not sure how Hunter gets a power rating that high.

Upset of the week though I don't see it as much of an upset but there is a two TD spread in the Parry Power Rankings:

Box Elder over Fremont

I also think the spread on the Northrdige vs. Westlake and Olympus vs. Taylorsville games are way too big.

Another possible upset: South Summit over Millard

Kearns lost to PG 13-10 and Jordan beat PG 32-0.......so a 30pt spread may not be too far out of line??? I seem to recall that last week you listed Jordan's 20+ point spread over PG as too high!

Agree BT and footballisgood. Problem with this system is that it gives a score at the start of the season and does not move much from there based outcomes. A team could be rated high early, not win a game and still be rated ahead of a team that is undefeated but was assigned a low value in the preseason.

8-0 in 2A last week. Let's see how this week goes:
Emery/N.Sevier- Emery takes frustration of last weeks loss out on the Wolves. Emery 35 NS 7
Gunnison/Manti- Manti builds off of last weeks big win over Emery & beat the Bulldogs. Manti 28 Gunnison 10
N. Summit/ALA- Both teams had tough losses last week. Who gets the win this week? ALA 14 NS 6
S.Summit/Millard- SS has had Millards # in the playoffs the past 2 seasons. Can the Eagles put the past behind them? Millard 28 SS 20 (You really didn't think I'd go against my Eagles did you?)
Enterprise/Richfield- Richfield continues to struggle in their return to 2A. Enterprise 28 Richfield 21
Grand/S.Sevier- 1 of these teams gets a W this week. Who wants it? Grand 21 SS 14
Kanab/SJ- 1 of these teams gets a L this week. Who doesn't want it? SJ 35 Kanab 21
Parowan/Beaver- The Rams continue to struggle against the Beavers. Beaver 28 Parowan 7

OK Me, Myself, & I let's hear your picks (& anyone elses. Carver?).

I agree with all eight of your picks. But I honestly believe Millard is much stronger than South Summit this year.

Boys of Fall I always like your picks. I think you will go 6-2 this week. Good luck.

Good picks Boys of fall but I think Grand wins 28-7, Kanab only scores once if at all on SJ 28-7and South Summit still has Millards number in a close one 21-20(Millard will get them in wrestling this year however). Im going with a Richfield win also 21-14(just a feeling). Some good games this week and a bit harder to pick. Game of the week in 2A is Millard South Summit, if I was closer I would go watch it. I think Boys of Fall is spot on for the rest of the games.

Boys of Fall. I agree with most of your predictions except some of the spreads may be to small. Millard will win by at least 2 touchdowns over SS (28 Millard 14 SS). I think Manti will win by more than 18 over a Gunnison (35 Manti 6 Gunnison). The only prediction I would change is Richfield will defend their home turf (27 Richfield 13 Enterprise).

@ carver
I hope your right. SS has brought out the worst in us the past couple of years. If our boys can just forget about that & don't get themselves too psyched out over playing SS. At least we get them at home.

@ justafan
What 2 do you think I miss? There are a couple I hope I got wrong. I really wouldn't mind any team proving me wrong (except SS of course). It would be nice to see Parowan get a win, or Kanab really challenge SJ, or an improved Gunnison team get a big win. Nothing against the other teams, but I like to see teams that have struggled get a good win.

Gotta love how Bingham Finally loses one time in Cali to a real good team, and people are so ready to harp on them and call them out for being a bad team, when we still dont know that much about them yet, we know there not as good as last years team, but who is?
Give this year some credit and these boys will come back from that trip and go on another run and will win 3 in a row when they meet up with Lone Peak for the Game of the Year since Alta gets put in the other region and never has to go to Utah County, but Bingham and Riverton have to for the next 4 years.

Still state Champ this year is from Salt Lake County
To all you LP Fans, still not fully impressed! 3-0 yes, against three teams that are 3-6, and two are 4A, and Davis is so overrated!
OH and your about to play another 4A team, who is very good so I should see what you knights and Rams are all about,

Boys of Fall

@ William
SS might win in a close one. But if it comes down to who makes their PAT's as you have with your 21-20 pick my money is on Pancho. He hasn't missed a PAT yet this year where it looks like between 2 kickers for SS they have missed 5. Pancho gives Millard the advantage in the kicking game (I can only think of 2 kickoffs that he has done that haven't been touchbacks as well).

@ Bear
I really don't like to see teams get blown out & even if in my heart I don't think a team will score I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. I can't bring myself to say someone won't score. So, my spreads might be too small in some games, but that's because I'm just a softy & hope teams will do better than I might think they will.

3 out of 4 picks are right on the money. but you need to take some antacid for that "gut" my friend. The Dixie-PV matchup won't come down to a PAT or FG. These are basically the same teams that played in 2010, and there is no reason to think the outcome will be any different. Dixie played a weak preseason and it won't be able to compete on the line of scrimmage.

Eagle, these are rankings similar to the BCS rankings. These aren't predications on what the score will be.

Good point on the kickers. I only but the score at that because I expect a very close game but have no idea what the score might be. I feel SS eeks out a close win. So I will say that a SS D lineman breaks through on an extra point and blocks a kick. Goodluck to the Eagles on friday.

Box Elder does not play Fremont. I seriously doubt that Box Elder could upset Fremont.
