Why not stop blocking porn also. It isn't any more dangerous than these. The ACLU has become an embarrassment to the USA. For ever worthwhile cause they support there are 3 or 4 that make my skin crawl.
If we unblock these sites, the youth will take it as another signal that society views these things as socially acceptable and part of normal life. God say's it is an abomination. That is good enough for me.
Love the sinner, hate the sin and do everything in our power to help these people overcome these problems.

Do we give them straight website access?

I'd be fine with eliminating ALL sexually detailed websites.

Not being selective about it.

FYI:

Your children probably know what 'Glee' is.

Um, yes.

'God say's it is an abomination.' - Same

And if you could prove God at all, I would start believing that.

Now, let's see the RESULT of denying gay websites, talking about it, and preventing any discourse about it at schools.

*'Teens gay or straight more likely to attempt suicide in conservative towns' - By LINDSEY TANNER - Medical Writer - AP - 04/18/11

'CHICAGO Suicide attempts by gay teens and even straight kids are more common in politically conservative areas where schools don't have programs supporting gay rights, a study involving nearly 32,000 high school students found.'

An increase in suicide rates, from LGBT teens in those schools.

Produced...4 months ago.

To be fair TJ, I would be against any pornography at school, as well.

But when you want to try and 'protect' your child from the world...?

Why would you let them into PUBLIC. School?

i agree that they should have access to certain websites. A good question that they should raise is whether or not students get access to religious websites. for example lds.org. If they can get on there from school shouldnt they be able to get on a website for a gay community? Im not necessarily saying your sexuality is the same as a religion, but I still think its a valid question to ask ourselves.

I belive that the ACLU is obscene.

Schools should block access to the ACLU website, and any news story which mentions them.

Frankly, the ACLU is a bigger threat to our nation's culture and freedom than either gay or straight porn sites.

@TJ: Those who don't believe in your "God" shouldn't be required to abide by his laws. It's that little thing called **separation of church and state**.

As much as you religious types would like it, the USA has never been, and will never be, a theocracy.

We are a **democracy** and our laws demand nothing less than fair and equal treatment of EVERYONE.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The three founding principles of the United States. I don't see any fine print in there saying "restricted to wealthy, white, straight, God fearing individuals."

It's a big big world out there and millions of people have points of view different from your own. You can't hide in the shadows of religious intolerance forever.

"ACLU director of Eastern Missouri, Tony Rothert, told Fox News earlier this month that the suit "has nothing to do with sexually explicit material."

yeah, that's like saying the pope has nothing to do with catholicism.

The ACLU just wants the promotional material to be available to our youth, even if their parents don't want them to have it.

Pagan,
if by "straight" websites you mean porn, no, they don't (or shouldn't) have access through school. As you said you'd accept, they shouldn't they have access to any sexual webpages, gay or straight.

delta,
no, we're not in a democracy, we're in a democratic republic.

and actually "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" did originally apply to only a select group - male landowners. And no, I'm NOT saying those are the only ones to whom it should apply now - I'm perfectly happy with application to all granted by the 14th amendment, which, along with the first, also applies to people of faith as well as those without faith.

Pagan,

What are "straight websites" that would be relevant to students, that you would like to see banned?

Homosexuality isn't NORMAL behavior, no matter the length gays go to justify it. Why would you want impressionable students to have access to such material?
What type of LGBT material, besides pornography, is there......what do you thing will be the first websites that show up when you search "Lesbian"?

'Pagan,
if by "straight" websites you mean porn..' - lost in DC | 3:35 p.m. Sept. 2, 2011

Actually, I specifically pointed OUT that I am against pornography in schools Lost.

Strange that you ignored that.

No, my question, again was:

'Do we give them straight website access?'

Because, you cannot claim equal treatment, if you ONLY block one orientation's access.

This, is the great folly of arguing against LGBT rights.

As, heterosexuality...is an orientation as well.

Now, tell me, on the show GLEE....

do you SEE any detailed sexual behavior?

Do you SEE, anyone engaing in homosexual acts?

I seriously doubt it! :)

But they DO acknowledge it. And, since science and religion combined have not found what CAUSES homosexuality...

how would you 'deny' a LGBT person, into your school? Talk with your child?

You can't.

As such, schools, by necessity, are FORCED to deal with LGBT children, as well as straight ones.

Preventing even the viewing of websites like GLEE, due to a 'gay' website promotes the idea that something is 'wrong' with these children.

Tell me, what 'sin' does a 12 year old child, commit...

exactly?

Pagan,

"Now, let's see the RESULT of denying gay websites, talking about it, and preventing any discourse about it at schools."

I'm not saying that it would be easy to be a gay teen in a predominately conservative town/city......but...i highly doubt the main cause of suicide is the lack of access to LGBT websites. So don't include that in the list of reasons that may actually lead to gay teens committing suicide.

Also

Prove to me there is no God and this will become a non-issue

'Homosexuality isn't NORMAL behavior, no matter the length gays go to justify it.' - est061985 | 3:48 p.m. Sept. 2, 2011

Reply fact:

'You are normal

Homosexuality is not a mental disorder. All of the major medical organizations, including The American Psychiatric Association, The American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics agree that homosexuality is not an illness or disorder, but a form of sexual expression.'

As mentioned x3 now...

GLEE and:

Shows and characters:

MASH, Clinger. Who many assume (incorrectly) as gay.

Warehouse 13, Agent Steve Jinks

Grey's Anatomy, Callie Torres

Law & Order: LA, Lt. Arleen Gonzales

Doctor Who, Captain Jack Harkness

The Sopranos, Vito Spatafore

Dawson's Creek, Jack McPhee

Stargate Univers, Camile Wray Sharon

Legend of the Seeker, Cara Mason

Mad Men, Salvatore Romano Carol

Big Love, Alby Grant

True Blood...too many to name.

All these shows have gay characters WITHOUT showing Pornography.
Just as straight shows, do not show pornography.

I hope one day, you can make the distinction.

Have a good weekend.

@ Pagan,

As I browsed your copy/pasted list, I couldn't help but laugh at what was included. I've heard about the hard content in shows like True Blood, and looked up a content review. If you believe that a show with "graphic sex scenes and nudity" contains no pornography, then I am left to question what you would consider pornography to be.

I'm sure your inclusion of such a show was unintentional, but it just goes to show how much you can miss when all you do is copy/paste lists and headlines. That's the biggest problem that "soundbyte posters" tend to run into - a lack of accurate substance.

Life's better when you read the whole article.

----------------------------

I took you up on your challenge and googled "lesbian". The first two were the Wikipedia website and "Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons." The third site was "The Lesbian Question", a question-and-answer website where the question of the day was "How to Make Sure That She Likes Me?" Oh -- and don't forget the Lesbian Cancer Project -- that was No. 4 on the list.

Somehow I don't see anything pornographic in any of them.

RE: Pagan | 4:15 p.m.

According to the America Acadamy of Pediactrics

"Homosexuality...form of sexual expression"

Clearly it is a choice.

"Expression" is a behavior of choice.

And no natter if Hollywood glorifies a behavior and lifestyle choice,

it is not required of our schools to endorse, encourage, and support all choices.

Schools are to serve their community that pays for them, not special interest groups.

I am disturbed by est061985's comment when he states "Homosexuality isn't NORMAL behavior, no matter the length gays go to justify it. Why would you want impressionable students to have access to such material?"

To me, this echoes the slanderous ranting by evangelical fundamentalists -- "Mormonism isn't NORMAL, no matter the length the LDS prophet goes to justify it. Why would you want impressionable students to have access to the BoM or the D&C?"

Est061985 goes on to ask "What type of LGBT material, besides pornography, is there......what do you thing will be the first websites that show up when you search "Lesbian"?

But this too echoes anti-LDS prejudice, as in -- What type of LDS material, besides heresy, is there.... what do you think will be the first websites that show up when you search plural marriage?

The church and its members have a real history of being persecuted. It seems that some have forgotten the lesson of history when dealing with other persecuted minorities.
