I served the last nine months of my mission in El Salvador in 1976. This is a dream come true for our hermanos and hermanas in El Salvador and for all the missionaries who have ever served there.
I have a friend I made through indexing that will be at the dedication today. He is the only member in his family, I am so excited for him to be able to attend the temple on a weekly basis. A few of us indexers went in together to send him money to purchase his temple clothing and such. He has an amazing spirit and it will be fun to watch him become a first generation Mormon family some day in El Salvador.
When we were the Welfare Agents in Central America and responded to a need for medicine and nebulizers for infants because of the high death rate that particular year, the El Salvador health minister cried (with joy). He said , "The Mormons were the first to come for Hurricane Mitch and the first to respond to this need." Joan Hamblin
