Mr. Maher's ratings have long been sinking into the PR toilet, it's no surprise that he now has to resort to "this" kind of low-brow bigotry and rampant intolerance. Those who give Maher any credibility, are as biased and as intolerant as he is.

I don't mind people disagreeing with what I believe, and even poking fun at what I believe, just as long as they have their facts straight.

No reason to believe anything that comes out of Bill Maher's mouth regarding religion. He regards all religion as crazy and anyone who subscribes to one as foolish. The irony is that he clings to his atheism as fervently as those he criticizes cling to their religion. He is as convinced he is right as religious people are convinced they are right.

Anyone who takes Bill Maher advice or even listens to him needs to be checked out. This guy is a joke! (Bad one, he was one of the worst comedians ever). He is a waste of good air.

Colbert's clip was great! It was actually quite favorable to the Mormons.

I don't konw where the idea comes from that maher is a comedian. He's a political hatchet man with a rather dull blade.

Hopefully more people will realize that Bill Maher says what he wants, regardless of the truth. He is all about what gets the biggest reaction and doesn't care about facts.

Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin et al., all "misrepresent" the religion, birth origin, patriotism, ethics, business acumen, educational background, and family values etc., of those whom they are well paid to attack, without mercy, on a daily basis.

All of this expertise, creates knowing nods from those who like to see the opposition impaled on the horns of whatever the delimina of the day affords.

When an equally disgusting "attack" is launched against a favorite son and his religion etc., protectors of the "son" or "faith" launch into selective faux outrage.

When all is said and done, the old adage, "What goes around, comes around" seems to fit when one considers that to which we are exposed on a daily basis.

"The irony is that he clings to his atheism as fervently as those he criticizes cling to their religion. He is as convinced he is right as religious people are convinced they are right."

No, he doesn't. He claims he 'doesn't know'. It's in his movie religiousless. He doesn't claim to be an atheist, or that god doesn't exist, but says he doesn't know and that all the books, prophecies, practices, etc etc are bunk and just man-made nonsense.

I do love when people do pieces on LDS though. A question to LDS members, is it not true that when you die you will be judged by Jesus Christ, God, and Joseph Smith? Or am I mistaking how important Joseph Smith is to the religion?

Maher was a lousy comedian, even worse as a Al Sharpton/Richard Simmons

Physicians, heal thyselves.

Growing up in Utah and called a "gentile", I can assure you that the comments made to me (and my entire family) by the LDS, were/are as harsh as anything Maher says about the LDS.

We were told
"We're on Abel's side, you're on Cain's side"
"Your souls will be kept in prison."
"I can't come to your birthday party because you're not Mormon."
"I'd ask you out, but you're not Mormon."
"What religion are you?"

From what is written in this article, Stephen Colbert's jokes about Mormon's are kind of funny. We have to laugh at ourselves a bit. On the other hand, Bill Maher has an agenda against anything virtuous, lovely, of good report or praiseworthy. There is very little positive that comes out of Bill Maher's mouth - By their fruits ye shall know them. (Matt. 7:20.)

My favorite thing about Maher is when he makes fun of uninformed, ignorant people who quote things out of context or inaccurately.

He stands directly in his own crosshairs.

To LValfre, you contradict yourself (same concept Maher has problems with). If as you say he does not claim to know whether God exists, then how can he say that "all the books, prophecies, practices, etc etc are bunk and just man-made nonsense?"

This is my point; you can't claim ignorance and then claim all knowledge. That is why he is a hypocrite; he makes fun of people for the very same thing he is clearly guilty of.

Poor comedy and even more poor pseudo-journalism.

Methinks they do protest too much re. Bill Maher. I love his show and think he's dead on about religion. Most of the people on this thread who say that he misrepresents their religion have no problem with going right ahead and misrepresenting his stance. I've always heard him say that he "doesn't know." But you would have to watch and listen to him to know that, wouldn't you? I'm much more comfortable with his "I've investigated and I don't know," approach, than I am with most peoples, "I haven't investigated, because I don't need to--I DO know," certainty.

@bgl,

Thank you! So many LDS 'know the truth' and don't know most of their real history. Especially the new converts from around the world who have no access to internet and are poorly educated. There was a girl i knew who had me go to church with her for months, talk to missionaries, watch movies and general conferences ... literally spent hours with her seeking the truth. She wouldn't read one negative article, questionable piece of literature, or video clip that I tried sharing with her ... some even from current LDS members! Ignorance is bliss when you're stuck in the Mormon church. Ignorance is bliss.

Most truthful and patriotic: I am always sad when I hear stories like this because as Mormons we miss the mark and the point when we treat you and others that don't believe the way we do like that. We are not living up to our faith when we behave that way.

I'm a Mormon. Maher's a moron. If he'd just add a second 'm' then we'd have a lot in common.

Colbert has got to be the funniest person on TV. He really understands the meaning of satire.
