Seriously...when is the Desnews going to become a newspaper again? You're
agenda has become so transparent. Are you on Mitt's campaign payroll? Please
start reporting facts instead of spreading this barrage of misinformation. You
are doing your readers, and democracy, a disservice.
@claDesnews is reporting facts--Its a fact that the media outlets

the ones doing the commentary.

I don't see what's so wrong with the report, of course Obama will fail. But it
won't be because of any campaign trick... it will simply be that he can't stand
on his record. Blaming the GOP and Tea Party just isn't going to fly when debate
time comes around.Funny world we live in... a month ago Obama had
the election in the bag b/c the GOP couldn't put up a strong candidate. Now he's
lost it all, and he doesn't even know it yet.
Obama may end up helping Romney's campaign .... assuming the Democrats don't
nominate Hillary to run in Obama's place.

It's amusing to me that Obama views Romney as such a viable threat and makes me
assume that Obama himself understands that he has a good shot of losing a
reelection bid. If he were not so concerned then why would he bring up a topic
that evangelicals will probably raise anyway? This whole thing will just keep
getting more and more amusing as we get closer to Nov 2012! I, for one, can't
wait to watch the theater play out and see just how desperate the President

No surprise that the President would view Mitt as the only viable Republican
candidate...he is a weak horse in a stable of mavericks: Bachmann's, Palin's,
Paul's and Perry's - none of whom could muster enough votes together to get
elected on a laundry ticket.Mitt is weak, because he is Mr. Flip
Flop, the ultimate Republican carpetbagger, who despite his Michigan roots would
have Detroit fail, speaks now against his own medical care program like the
President got it directly from Lucifer and who taunts himself as a business
leader, yet as governor of Massachusetts had job growth of less than 1%.Those who think that the American public will lay this politicized debt
crisis on Democratic doorsteps, do not give the American people enough credit.
It was Republicans who from the very beginning drew the line in the sand and
said they would not negotiate. The same 120 Republicans who voted for 6 or 7
Bush increases in the debt ceiling now would not on "principle" vote
for this one. The principle was that the President was a democrat. They would
rather the Nation's credit rating and stock markets suffer trillions in losses
than permit a perceived victory.
@Pagan--Please Calm down--your bias is much worse than that of the
Deseret News. You would do well to put your efforts towards something worth
while rather than spending countless hours arguing about Desnews posts
online--start a charity or something.
Okay, when will you ant-DN posters realize that all newspapers and news sources
have certain leanings? SL Tribune, Washington Times, etc., have their own
agendas too. Most people in this state are Mormons and they will of course want
to read about Mormon issues/news and Mitt Romney is present news for LDS
members. Huntsman too though not doing as well thus far. Im sure this should
have been real obvious, people! My issue however, is with Harry Reid
and Mormon Democrats. If all this anti-LDS attack by Obama and the Dems
materializes, will they finally stand up and take a stand or will politics trump
their LDS affiliation?
Romney is Weird:An employee of Romney had a daughter disappear in
New York City. Romney canceled work and asked all his employees to go to NYC and
help locate the young lady. Romney set up a command center, organized the
search, involved police, grocery stores, etc. It made the press. It cost
Romney a fortune. It saved the girls life. That is just weird. Nobody does
that.Romney took over the SLC Olympic organizing committee, ended
the scandal and turned the first every profit for the Winter Olympics. That's
just weird.Romney buys bankrupt companies that nobody else would
touch and turns them around. That's just weird.Romney is weird, a
weirdness America desperately needs.Vote Romney Vote Weird.(Thanks Obama for the Romney Campaign Slogan)
"He cited Gallup poll results which show that the number of persons who
said they would not vote for a Mormon is lower when just surveying Republicans

Republicans hate Mormons, are intolerant, and would never vote for Mormons while
the tolerant Democrats would welcome Mormonism with welcome arms. I guess they

saying it."I'd dare say that the Deseret News has made much

Pagen/Pagan,Does Obama seal his lips while his campaign strategists
do all the talking? Or does Obama say things? Just because it hasn't been
reported that he said it doesn't mean that he never did. Where do you think the
strategists are picking it up? Guess who happens to live in the White House?
Put two and two together. If you are clinging on to claims such as
this for your defense of Obama then you Obama supporters are in a SAD condition
Lets just face it everyone.....Obama is a ONE term President!I don't think it
will take much for onyone to be elected president in 2012, but Mitt Romney can
do the job. If the first black man can be elected, why not the first Morman?
@Riverton Cougar"What a shock! A newspaper owned by the LDS Church
makes an issue of Romney's religion (which happens to be LDS)!"I'm not 'shocked' that the Deseret News targets their audience. I expect
articles about the LDS church from a newspaper owned by the LDS church. They
don't bother me, I'm LDS myself and a long time reader of the Deseret News. I
like the Deseret News. The contention of the article was that
bringing Mormonism into the campaign will backfire on Barack Obama. We should
not be angry at the President for something a democratic strategist thinks he
should do, when the Deseret News has had the Romney/Mormon story angle in at
least an article every week since he entered the race. I was just trying to
point out that we (as Mormons) make much more of the issue than anyone else. If
Romney loses, it will have much more to do with his political views than his
Perhaps Obama simply needs to explain the White Horse prophecy. That should
suffice to militate the non-mormons against Mitt.
I think many of us disagree with Pagan's political views, but we should be
looking at the point he/she is trying to make, instead of dismissing it as part
of a larger viewpoint. Are we LDS (specifically the DN) trying to make this
into a Mormon issue, when there really isn't one? Has Obama personally said
anything about Mormons, or told his advisers he wants this to be about
Mormonism? There is no evidence of such. Disagree with Obama all you want, I
myself almost always do. But don't lay blame at his feet for something he
hasn't done or said. A democratic strategist believes this should be his
strategy, but until Obama consents to it in any demonstrable way, we are making
a mountain out of an imaginary molehill. Our pioneer ancestors dealt with mobs
and guns. Stuff like this should be water off our backs.
@Richard SaundersSorry I misunderstood you, but it seemed that you
were displeased with the LDS-heavy stories the DN posts.Obama's
strategy doesn't make me made. As I matter of fact, I believe it will be his
downfall, so I hope he does it. I agree that it would be smart for him not to
touch on religion, because that will be the kiss of death for him. However, I
do get upset when people use an argument as silly as "he never said it
himself" to refute other people. There are pretty strong indicators that
this is indeed Obama's strategy and Obama himself is involved in this strategy.
I hope this report is wrong and that Obama and his team don't attack Romney on
his faith. Such attacks by either party are in bad taste. While I have no
intention of voting for Romney and hope that he is not the best the Republicans
can muster, I will be wholly disappointed if this turns into a mud-slinging
campaign instead of a campaign of ideas. We are a divided country and
that is okay provided that we remain civil and engage in honest debate. If that
were to happen, it would be an incredible step toward making the right decisions
and heading in the right direction - not just the right direction for today but
the right direction for the next 100 years.
I hope anything and everything backfires on Obama - as if the economy is not
enough! Can't believe the NYTimes had something good to say about a
You know, it doesn't matter what Des News prints. This is a relative small
newspaper and people who read it will probably vote for Romney anyway. Utah is
a Republican state and to vote otherwise is in the minority. Now, if other
newspapers, such as the New York Times or the Cleveland Plain Dealer would print
it, the article may make a difference. Who knows?
What if 'purported' doesn't mean 'real'?
I'm not Obama, I'm a real Mormon Republican, not some RINO, I now speak the
truth. My views. There's no mystery about what we have to
do. It's just common sense. Mitt Romney should never get elected because as
Governor of Massachusetts, Romney gloated about signing a permanent
"assault weapons ban far worse than the ban pushed by Bill Clinton and
Janet Reno. "[Semi-automatic firearms] are instruments of destruction with
the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people, declared Romney in a press
release touting his signature of the Massachusetts "assault weapons ban in
2004. This has like, never been brought up. Ban gun's, but kill babbies with
the definitive abortion history of Mitt Romney ?. Ban Ethanol and all
"Ethanol Subsidies" entitlements plus the Koch Brothers and Grover
Norquist, in their "Field Of Dreams" called "Ethanol
Subsidies." It's just plain wrong to be protecting tax breaks for oil
companies and to be rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas. Can Mitt
Romney Serve Two Masters?. The Mormon Church Versus The Office Of The
Presidency and the American People. "NO". Why
Mitt Romney should never get elected is because he's weird and___________________________ fill in the blank's with truth.
Democrat Harry Reid occupies the highest seat ever held by a Mormon in US
history. Will the Republican party reward all the loyal LDS republicans by
electing Mitt in the primary? Mitt must first overcome those of the evangelical
right who are anti-mormon. Will Mitt win 1 state in the South in the primary?
But it might serve Obama well to misrepresent a candidates religious beliefs
(Obama/Muslim) and claim that his religion is extreme and weird(Rv. Wright) He
could do well to follow the republican playbook.
Swift boat Obama - did he do anything except to adopt Rev. Wright's view of
America.Pagan does seem to be a little excited.
Re: Pagan | 2:19 p.m. Aug. 10, 2011 Instead of worrying about Mitt
Romney it might be a good idea if Obama started getting down to business and
worrying a little bit more about our economy. The stock market dropped another
500 points today.
It's the economy, stupid.
Mitt Romney has a son that lives in the same ward as one of my daughters, in San
Diego. When they had the Witch Creek fires there, Mitt Romney was in town
visiting his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He worked as hard as any
of the Brethren there to clear up and help out. He got down in the dirt with
the others, and spent many hours more than most doing it. He was close to being
late for a meeting because he was helping to dislodge a root in a burned out
tree in an elderly man's garden. He didn't want to leave until the job was
done. It never made the news. Why not? Romney told the the press guys he
didn't want them to, as this was not politics, it was taking care of others. If
that is weird, I want to be weird.
Pagan, you attack romney because he said let Detroit go bankrupt.uh, didn't you hear that GM and Chrysler DID go BK?? - Oh, and it was during
the BO administration. And since the BO administration was deeply
involved in the bankruptcy, in your mind it MUST have been a good thing. So really, you were PRAISING romney when you quote him about Detroit
The reality is that the Politico article was nothing more than gossip within the
political campaign industry and in no way reflects the reality of campaign
strategy by the people who will actually make the decision on the course of the
campaign. Any negative comment about the faith stirs the persecution complex
that is so ingrained in our state.
Hey Pagan, they haven't said anything yet because Obama's people are focus
grouping it.I would say that if he goes with the weird tac, then
Romney ought to consider using the outright racism, anti-Americanism, and
craziness of Jeremiah Wright against Obama.
he's not weird, he's just a flip-flopper who will say anything, and shift his
politics to become president. He doesn't stand for anything, he doesn't come
off the least bit genuine. I think Americans will see him for his ultra pro-big
business/pro-corporation stance and lack of compassion more than anything else.
That's all the President needs to focus on. If people don't/wont vote for him
because he's a Mormon, well that's too bad for him. I'd still take a Mormon
over an evagelical any day of the week, those guys scare me worse than the
Pagan, nice try at twisting what I said.nowhere did I blame BO
for GM and Chrylser going bankrupt. His misadministration WAS heavily
involved in the bankruptcy proceedings. And again you confuse the
auto bailout package with the bankruptcy.Let me again remind you of
the RESULTS of the Oct 2008 financial bailout "The government
has earned $25.2 billion on its investment of $309 billion in banks and
insurance companies, an 8.2 percent return over two years, according to data
compiled by Bloomberg" (10/12/2010)you forget BO campaigned and
voted for TARP, so - since he's BO and you're pagan, he gets a pass while
EVERYONE else involved with it should be condemnedDoubleStandardparkcityaggieso when one changes from a liberal to a
conservative position he flip-flops, but when one goes from a conservative to a
liberal position he sees the light? All he needs to focus on is
compassion? I'd like to know how that will get the economy started
Not everybody against Romney is for Obama. Some people just don't like the idea
of a Mormon for president and don't consider Mormonism a religion. Attacks on
Romney may simply take the form of information about Mormonism, which is new for
most Americans. When they find out how different the lifestyle is from their
own, many will vote against Romney and Obama will have no stain on his hands.
And of course it may be Republicans who start the Mormon infomercials so that
Romney never gets the nomination.
