Maybe it should say two and a half starters back on offense, since Day started last year until he got hurt. Should be fun to watch these guys continue to develop with still so many young players!
I see Herriman as close to having a winning season. I think they are fourth in their league behind Westlake, Skyline, and Olympus. Larry Wilson is a good coach and probably the Mustangs #1 asset at this point.
The State is in for a surprise with this team! "SHOCK THE STATE!" They did it last year for being the 1st 5A team in their 1st year to make it to the playoffs! Now entering 4A they can DOMINATE! The coaching staff from the top to the bottom is first class and is preparing the players to make a run to the Championships! Good Luck, HHS!
Go Jags!
footballislife, love the enthusiasm and I hope you are right, but I seriously doubt they will not dominate 4A. There are 8-10 4A teams that would do more than hold their own in 5A and they were stuck in a solid region with Westlake, Skyline and Olympus. If 4 teams get into the playoffs from your region, maybe you have a chance at the playoffs.
Didn't Westlake make playoffs their first year? I may be wrong on that. I see Herriman going 1 game under .500 this year. Which isn't bad for a young 2nd year team. Too many tough teams on their schedule.
No, Westlake made the playoffs their second year, not the first
I hear a lot of raw raw for Herriman this year but I really don't see it. I hear a lot about last year making playoffs. They made playoffs because region 3 last year was horrible and their region and they got to take 5 teams to playoffs. They will be lucky to have a winning record this year even in 4A. Their line is small! They've ran off some great players including one of their best D-tackles from last year the Michelson kid. They ran off one of their better D-backs Staley. You say (footballislife) that they will dominate because of coaching? You know coaching is their problem! Look how many games they gave away last year, one I remember was kicking a field goal with a kicker who couldn't kick and missed about every kick, when they were on the one yardline and could have won the game. Instead the kid misses the field goal again. When you have a back getting you 3-4 yards per carry. Their play calling was very predictable. I hope things change as they do have incredible support the community.
Is the game against Westlake being moved to Rio Tinto???
That DB was low on the depth chart and always hurt. Mikkelsen is a returning starter at Offensive Tackle and a captain. And really, the field goal? They got stopped 3 times and only needed 3 late in the game...and the thing was blocked, not missed (granted they did not have a good kicker). Can you imagine what people would be saying about the coaches if they went for it and did NOT make it - amazing how smart people are after the fact. Cmon desnews, if someone is going to make accusations about a team then someone else ought to have the right to defend them.
They are probably a year away from being good with so many young starters, but the information from last year needs to be accurate.
Footballisgood, the DB Staley was low on the Varsity depth chart but started on the JV team when he wasn't hurt. Yes he was hurt a lot but did start when he wasn't. If the Mikkelsen kid is back, didn't know that as I'm not following them this year, you've proved my point about coaching! He was their stud D-Tackle and they now have him on O-line? Regarding the kicker, I don't think anyone at that point in the season would have been saying much as everyone in the stands knew their kicker was like 2-40 on the year. So exactly who was running the team last year, Freeland or Wilson? In a few years they should be much better, they have the numbers! To bad they've ran off some that would be seniors this year. I get it, their building for their future but they could be good now if coaching had a clue! Maybe then should go over and watch Bingham's coaches and how they coach.
Incorrect on both accounts. The kid was never a JV starter, and Mikkelsen played maybe 10 snaps of defense last year - he was a starting Offensive Tackle. They had a team full of kids with no varsity experience last year, kids who were not good enough to start at the school where they came from, and not only made history by making the playoffs (and beating a very talented WJ team in the process...the same WJ team that gave Bingham fits the week before), they were leading undefeated Cottonwood at halftime of the playoff game. If that is not good coaching I don't know what is!
I think you're talking about the Addington kid, he was their all everything defensive tackle last year and to my knowledge he isn't with the team this year? Both of those wins were nice wins at the end of the season. I think the team took a while to get things going, both coaching and players. The future looks bright for Herriman.
Addington was a solid player at Nose, but I would not call him all-everything. Not even all-region! Anyway, he got kicked out of school for a bit and did not attend any workouts when he came back to school, then quit the team. I think the soph that they are playing there is going to be better anyhow, he is a little tank!
In all due respect to the comments on this board I find it interesting in some of the post's (saltcitykid) has no clue of what is going on with the program. I know that I posted that Herriman CAN dominate in 4A! And they CAN with the tools (coaches) and resources (the fact they did not even have a field to prepare or a weight room to lift last year except limited time at Copper Hills). Will they? Only time will tell and we only have to wait 4 more days until they hit the field! GO Mustangs!
Hey what about the Jackson kid, with him not needed at QB where did they move him to? Also, the sosa kid is he playing and how about the Beck kid who played center and nose last year?
Jackson is starting at WR
