The problem with the economy is the government tries to micro-manage it and its not working. All the economist should be fired and exposed as cheap imitations of cheap carnival magicians with all his tricks hanging out of the sleeves.

Economist can no more predict the economy than try to prove whether god does or does not exist. They are tricksters and pranksters with all the politicians believing in Santa Claus. This country and its economy got along very well for 200 years without economist and since they have come along, it has all gone to pot (and I don't mean the weed).

They are the least valuable element of a free market economy and all they do is muddle and confuse the issues business must make. Most business started without an economist in tow and the only way they can stay ahead of the game is fire the economist and owners use their own judgment that created their business.

Economist have never been right and they are still not right. Government has become too dependent on them and look what it has done, bankrupt the country.

The only thing wrong with our economy is the federal government's meddling, over spending(massive debt),unaffordable entitlements, over control and stiffling regulations! Our economy will not, cannot change until we change the government in Nov 2012! That is real hope and change!

@Mountainman: May I respectfully ask: To which government would you like to change to? This country has done everything you outlined in your post - meddled, debt (how do you define massive?), entitlements, control, and regulations - since its inception, no matter which party has been in control. So who is it exactly that you want to change to? Unless you want to entirely abolish our government and start anew, that would certainly be change. But to what system would you like it changed to?

@ xscribe. Respectfully asked, respectfully answered:
#1: Repeal Obamacare, there is NO way we can afford it.
#2: Eliminate many federal agencies and turn over the responsibility to the states. Dept of Education, EPA, Fish and Wildlife, Energy (many others), and reduce ALL federal agencies by mandate. Most could be run much more efficiently by states and would eliminate duplication and bring competition between states for business and industry.
#3: Flat rate (say 15%) income taxes for all people. 50% of Americans are not paying any federal income taxes now.
#4: We have to cut medicare-sorry but that has to happen.
#5: Increase the elegibility age for S.S.
#6: Restrict food stamps and require work (cleaning up highways, etc) to receive welfare.
#7:Decrease corporate taxes. We have the highest corp taxes in the world and wonder why jobs are going overseas!
#8: Leave Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya this year!
#9: Balanced budget amendment!
