I had the pleasure of meeting John Beck at a charity function in 2007 and he is a genuinely warm and friendly person in addition to a great athlete. Despite his overall statistics I still feel like Beck in his senior year was one of the most skilled quarterbacks ever to play at BYU. I would take John Beck over Max Hall any day of the week, and twice on Saturday.
I hope Beck starts and does well this season. One thing that worries me though is that the Miami press used to say the exact same thing pretty consistently - a beautiful pass followed by a poor one.
John is all about confidence. He was great at BYU after he knew he would be "the man" and didn't have a huge QB battle hanging over him. Hopefully this will be his year to get that sort of confidence.
