When I first heard about this I was mad because Charlie Davies only received a
fine for his blatant dive that cost us 2 points. But, then I realized that
Sabo's dive not only cost San Jose possibly 1 point, but one of their players
was suspended from the next match, something the league can't overturn. RSL has 3 games over the next week. I don't know if Sabo could have
played in all 3 given his knee issues and if he is going to miss one of the next
3 this would be the one to miss in my opinion. I'm guessing we will
see Gil start in place of Sabo and maybe have Paulo Jr come off the bench if he
is cleared to play.
I am a devoted RSL fan, and I am satisfied and even pleased with the suspension.
The whole thing is pointless if the outcome is going to be affected by
dishonest or flopping players. I don't want to have anything to do with that.
They've got to start somewhere...and it might as well be with Sabo. If they
don't clean up this kind of nonsense, many fans will be driven away (me). My only question is this: Will the referee also be suspended and fined?
Will soccer ever go to an instant replay? Do we need more than one ref. on the
pitch? Yes, Sabo did it, but the ref, who is supposed to be controlling the play
(admittedly very difficult with only one ref), made the call. If he's not
watching what's happening around the ball, in the 18, what is he watching?
