doesn't matter if Utah is picked to finish first or last, there is nothing less credible then a preseason media poll.

Eagle Mountain, UT

Prove them wrong Utah.
I think it is funny how the self-proclaimed experts actually get paid to analyze data, feed it to the public, be wrong most of the time, then make excuses about why they were wrong.
Then we dwell on their next predictions as if they were always right.

Syracuse, UT

Not really a Utah fan, but I think Utah will take second behind USC, and then get that spot in the Pac 12 championship game.

The debate and predictions will end pretty soon, thankfully.

If the poll had picked the u as first it would have been the most credible and accurate around. I think the poll is pretty close, remember if the u finishes second to USC they would get the championship game, USC can't, one of many in the pac 10 that may find themselves ineligible to play. If the u can stay "clean" they could back into it.

Salt Lake City, UT

Look for USC to absolutely fall apart down the stretch. A Week minded coach and players with not a lot to play for is not a winning recipe. Football is right around the corner, I cannot wait.
Go Utes!

Many people pick Utah to win the division. Dodged a bullet with USC being down, and no Oregon or Stanford on the schedule. Last year was needed wake up call after the good start. This year the players will know that even after a few wins and a good ranking that we can't even stop improving.

I'm convinced Whittingham will have the guys ready to play from day 1.

Rose Bowl here we come.

Las Vegas, NV

Given the poor outlook for most PAC-12 south teams, this is probably a pretty good guess. USC will win the division, and ASU is set to have a break-out season. With Utah's poor finish last year, I don't see them beating either USC or ASU and they'll have their hands full with UCLA as well. Vegas odds have them winning 7.5, with most experts saying the safe bet is with the under. With a new OC and a QB who hasn't practiced for 8 months, it looks like a long year for the Utes.

@Chris B - I've only seen 2 people picking Utah to win the South, and they're both from small market papers. All the real experts have them finishing in the middle of the pack.

Also, Rose Bowl?!? You seriously think you can beat Stanford or Oregon when this same team barely squeaked by a 6/6 BYU team last year?

I predict Utes 9-3 but lose a division tie breaker with ASU to go to the Championship game. It will be fun to see how this new adventure turns out.

Not going to happen. Arizona State is overrated. USC could go either way, but with all the trashing that their program has taken the past few years, I see more problems both on and off the field for them.

It will be a Utah Oregon showdown for the title.

Hey-leave economists out of this.

Thankfully, Wynn gets a home tuneup game before having to face USC and BYU on the road.

Did I say Utah would be Oregon or Stanford.

I said "Rose Bowl here we come."

2 teams will play in the Rose Bowl. I think 1 of them will be Utah.

Now that wasn't too difficult was it.

Oh - and congrats on your bowl acceptance already before the season starts.

That is, if you can make it back to 6-6 after another 1-4 start

This is the year that Arizona State has to make it to the Rose Bowl or Dennis Erickson is gone. Look for some fight from the Sun Devils!

Las Vegas, NV

Ummm, I think you need to brush up on your bowl game contract. The winner of the PAC-12 conference plays the winner of the Big 10 in the rose bowl. To get there you have to beat the winner of the PAC-12 North, which will likely be Oregon or Stanford. So, you would have to beat (not "be") one of them to make it to the Rose Bowl.

Is that clearer for ya?

How will the Utes do?

Who knows - but it's so great to wonder. I am really hoping they do well, not just for the university's sake but also to prove the best of the non-BCS conference can indeed compete with those in BCS conferences!!! So Boise State, Brigham Young, TCU (although you'll make your own argument next year!) and other's this year's for you also.

Go Utes.

I'm a huge Ute fan, but, I think to many of us are getting a little to far ahead of ourselves. This first year may turn out great, but it also could be shaky given that:

1) For the first time we're playing tough teams week in and out
2) Our quarterback that we'll be relying on 100% is just coming off surgery and we have no clue how he'll be
3) Our running backs have zero experience (although they do look pretty talented)
4) And we're completely switching our offensive scheme with Norm Chow now at the helm.

We might have a great year, but, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't so great...

3rd in MWC third in Pac 12...glad to see the U moving up!

BTW--I do believe Whittingham will have Utah ready to play. I am convinced we can play with and beat anyone in the Pac-12. I actually expect a harder game with byu than anyone on our conference schedule. To be honest, that could be our one loss this year.

About what I thought. And behind Oregon, Stanford and Washington...that's sixth and probably the Las Vegas Bowl to lose to the mwc runner up of tcu and BSU. The winner between those two gets another BCS bowl, which u can now only dream of in the conference of champions.
