As has been said over and over, the Mexican emmigrants seem to want to bring their attitudes, values, and language with them instead of wanting to become assimilated into the great society America represents. I see too many of those green flags, Spanish language billboards, and Mexican Markets who merchandise specifically to that culture. If you don't want to become an American and practice our fundamentals, then stay where you are happy. Those who passed through Ellis Island left their heritage behind to begin anew. None of the Latino residents in the vicinity where we live had the desire to display the American flag on either the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 23rd, 24th, or 25th of July. It seems that they want the benefits which our forefathers established without the deep resolve it took to get where we are. This opinion does not represent the much valued and deep respect that our Mexican American patriots have proven both courageously and valiantly time and again, however the exodus of most of the newly arrived Latinos. If you can't speak English go learn and study our history! Comprende!

Prunes from tooele, UT, has made an observation that is consistent with much of the the Mexican population in Los Angeles, and other major cities. Could it be that refusal to accept and adopt the culture of our nation and integrate into our society is reflected in their refusal to respect and obey our laws?

I personally know many US patriots that are of Mexican descent. What is the difference? They have adopted the values and culture of our nation and support our laws.

I believe it is a little too judgemental to say none had the desire to display the American Flag. You don't know what they are thinking, what their desires are. Unfortunately most Americans don't fly the Flag either. It could be that some foreigners don't have the money to buy a flag after accepting lower and perhaps even under the table wages. It could be that they don't know of all of our Holidays. There could be other reasons other than no desire.

It does seem they do want the benefits of our freedom and ability to provide for a family, who could blame them. If I were in another country I would do almost anything to get to this blessed land to.

We do need an enforced immigration policy based on the rule of law and compasion of the individual. The present status of immigration is a joke due to both democratic and republican presidents whose job it is to execute the laws of the land AND by congress who, when laws are not working, need to enact legislation to correct them.

Please take the opportunity to talk with our neighbors from different countries. Make them your friends. My experience is you will find they are wonderful people (FYI, they also are not all here illegally, some are even citizens) who have hopes and aspirations for their families. If you get to know them they might even invite you over for a delicious authentic meal with food purchased at one of those Mexican Markets unless they are having some authentic Korean, Russian, Thai, Argentine or Peruvian food (anyone for Cuie sp?)

Another suggestion is we could all have the opportunity to help others learn English. Help out with a Daily Dose program. Serve a little more and complain a little less while you work through our political system to get the government to do it's job. You will feel better because of your efforts and the world will be a little more loving and a little less hateful.

I don't think getting to know people who come here illegally, excuses them for breaking our laws.

Our laws are fair and compassionate when enforced, they are unfair to those subsidizing business through taxes, having stolen ID's and waiting in other parts of the world to come legally, when not enforced.

All we need, honest businessmen, elected officials, and people willing to wait in line.

Cries for amnesty every ten years (1986,1996,2006)for "fair laws" does no good. They are just broken time and time again. The only way to stop it is with enforcement.

RE: Prunes

Assuming things just isn't rocket science! Prunes states that the Latinos who don't fly the American flag are in "her neighborhood". You assupmption is that MRS Prunes doesn't know the people in her neighborhood. Instead of assuming that this writer doesn't understand the basic fundamentals of forming an opinion, perhaps you should invite her over to your home to feast on some of your burritos, quesidillas, and chicharones.
