Comments about ‘Term 'national debt' misleads country's finances’

There are a few disingenuous statements in this story. While I agree that we probably don't need to count the money that is owed between different entities of the federal government, saying that we shouldn't count the money that the government owes to citizens is ridiculous. I fully expect the government to repay all the bonds that I own. I will very much be affected if they don't. This money is a legitimate part of the national debt.

The argument that we should consider assets is legitimate, but misleading. We are not talking about net worth. We are talking about living within our income. It is fine to have assets to sell, but the fundamental problem is spending. If we don't fix that we still have the problem.
