    Pagan...I agree with you.

This pledge and those like it lock a candidate into a very narrow view.

I want each candidate to speak for themselves and I will choose from among them.

Good for those who have refused to sign it! (so far - Pawlenty and Romney in the Republican Party)

'ST. PAUL, Minn. Republican Tim Pawlenty declined Wednesday to sign a pledge written by a conservative Iowa group that asks presidential candidates to denounce same-sex marriage rights, pornography and forms of Islamic law.' - Article

After reading this pledge I think it is poorly written and, if re-worded would appeal to more people.

However, it mentions how slaves had 'more mothers and fathers' for raising them, and then specifically mentions 'our current president.'

    Just one example.

It mentions the denial of accomidations for homosexuals serving in the military, and then mentions Islamic law...three times.

Instead of being an example of what conservatives might want to stand for, this pledge has instead brought out the WORST of the conservative movement.

As such, it is not being well recived.

    FYI, Iowa allows gay marriage.
