"Alex smith ready to prove himself."

Yeah, because the 49ers are asking for their money back. What a bust! Alex has had 6 seasons to prove himself. How many more does he need?

The 49ers got Jimmered with that #1 pick.

coug_independence,

Go check Steve Young's stats over his first six seasons, he hadn't proved anything yet. Tampa Bay gave up on him and traded him for a couple of 2nd round picks, then chose Vinny as their QB with the 1st pick in the draft.

Obviously Young needed more than six seasons....

Why don't you run along and stop showing your hatred toward the U. of Utah and their explayers.

"Jimmered"? I believe we will all see that the Kings got "Jimmered" with their 1st round pick in the draft by choosing your beloved jimmer.

Good Luck Alex! Here you go into your seventh season with your seventh Offensive Coordinator. This season will silence all haters and doubters.

Smith is a stand-up guy. Does not need to be doing this as a free agent.

I wish him the best of luck.

@mid major

"Go check Steve Young's stats over his first six seasons, he hadn't proved anything yet."

Perhaps you remember who Steve Young backed up in San Francisco, a guy by the name of Joe Montana. Young learned from the best. Smith? He barely has an NFL contract!

And regarding Jimmer, how many points did he out up against Utah this year? I lost track after 40. And I believe the Kings have already sold more season tickets for next season than they did the entire 2010-2011 season! The jazz got jimmered.

Go Alex! 7th time is the charm!

coug_independence,

Perhaps you don't remember Young beginning his career with the Express and then the Bucs? His numbers were pathetic with bad teams and good with the ready built 49ers. Right place at the right time got Young to the HOF, had he stayed in Tampa Bay backing up Vinny he would have never made it. It's difficult to compare QBs because of the teams and situations they play in. Young is a very good example of what I am trying to explain to you.

The Jazz didn't get jimmered, they already sellout every game 19,911.

Good luck Alex, you are a class act

Alex Smith is not even close to being Steve Young caliber. Never will be either.

Young succeeded in San Fran in less than 7 years. Smith? He may get cut after this season.

Let's go Alex! Don't help the rising unemployment rate in the US!

coug_independence/bluto/all of your other names on here,

You always miss the point. Please go back and read what I posted. Through their first six seasons in professional football, Steve Young's stats were worse than those of Alex Smith.

The team/system the players are tied to will reflect heavily on their opportunity to succeed. If Steve Young had played his entire career in Tampa Bay, he would not have had the same success he enjoyed on the 49ers. The 49ers were a premier team built around the pass. Young being traded to the 49ers after Tampa Bay gave up on his was the best thing that could have happened to him. Rational cougar fans have always agreed with that and understand it. I'm not expecting you to get it anytime soon.

I'd love to see Smith go to another team but it appears that Harbough wants him in San Fransisco.

Go compare both players stats through their first six professional football years and you will see it was you that was "jimmered".
