And having a Mormon in the White House would be bad because ...?

Sounds like the media is starting to catch on that Mormonism is a good thing after all.

From what I can tell, Mitt Romney's foreign policy isn't all that much different than the rest of the neocons. Bombing people and occupying their countries with military force. I also did a mission, and I think the conservative foreign policy is a horrible waste of human life, resources, and dignity.

I find it funny that your story linked to the Huffington Post. On a more serious note, who knows how Romney's mission experience will influence his foreign policy. There has been a lot of coverage on this over the past 2-3 years, including the auto accident, which I think led his to some bitterness and anger towards the French people that continues today. In 2007, I heard him take a critical shot at the French people, not the government but the people. This was one of the factors for me not supporting him, he could not should love and charity to the people he served on his mission. On article recently discussed how on his mission he exploited his father's position to get some preferential treatment from the U.S. Embassy in Paris and violated other mission rules, leaving me to reflect on the idea that perhaps he does not relate to the average person, middle class or poor, because he has led a very rich and privileged life. People criticize those who won't vote for him because he is Mormon, but are Utahns voting for him because he is? This is a double standard, isn't it?

It's true , he doesn't like french people , may be , because we are not religious people, also he had his mission in west of France , where you can find very good wines.(Bordeaux) .

I am french, I can understand why he doesn't like french , he was there in 1968, at this time we had a kind of "revolution" , strikes, a lot of issues, people wanted an other President, they didn't want de Gaulle anymore . It means no gas, troubles in the streets , in Paris big issues with the students , riots .Terrible for a young LDS in mission.

I don't agree with Romney on the environmental issues but at least he did make his own money. I really believe that if Jon's dad were running i would vote for him but not Jr. How about Rick Perry? I like him better than either of the others.

To Esquire: You have made a lot of accusations without any facts. The only thing I recall Romney saying about France was that there are beautiful cathedrals, but they are mostly empty, because the French people have abandoned religious belief. Everything I read about France and religion is that the French government very specifically encourages secularism and discourages religious expression in public.

Romney was a very successful missionary. He was an Assistant to the President, and took over leading the mission when the mission president's wife died in the same car accident where Romney was injured (and almost left for dead). He was a great success at that work. He would not be the AP if he was not following mission rules! (My former bishop was the other AP with Romney.)

Romney served as a Mormon bishop and then stake president in Boston. A non-Mormon reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune said that Haitian immigrant Mormons liked to work with Romney because they could speak French with him. He donated 20 hours a week without pay to help people who are in need both financial and spiritual, taking time when he was building his own consulting and investment company.
